  • how about zero mission? that would be awesome!

  • I would play that game.

  • Have you tried super metroid yet for this, or Mario?

  • seem like something you would come across in an arcade...

  • I can't play at that angle.lol

  • this is really cool

    gives me headache tho heh

  • looks cool. not as hard to play as people think.

  • is there a way to play it at full screen? or make the window bigger?

  • this work would be ideal to understand how to make a 2D game work with 3D glasses.

  • platformer game

  • this looks pretty cool, but it would get annoying after awhile

  • @mikewj94 As I explained many times, it's more of a concept than anything else. It was never meant to be actually played seriously.

  • @Starxxon and these were made using... programming from scratch?

  • So awesome.

  • This isn't cool. It's annoying. I could never play it because it would annoy the shit out of me.

  • this is Fucking sick, would buy this

  • Nifty, but it looks like it would be a pain to play. Is there a zoom? :/

  • Need it to port to NES.

  • Ugh, my brain's so used to the sidescroller that its automatically trying to process the video into that format, thus causing me an epic headache.

  • Tripy but awesome

  • wonderful idea, great work!im to impreses

  • The game plays EXACTLY like the nes! how did you achieve this? are you using the actual ROM data?

  • This look more retro then the original.

  • more like metroid tubed.

  • holy shhhhiii !!!!

  • i feel like you people are like...making roms but hacked like

  • This is really cool, like how all the paths that objects are placed in are represented as tubes going horizontal or vertical depending upon the path, it takes a 16 year old game and gives it a whole new breath of fresh air.

  • Like looking at the 2d game from the 3rd dimension. Maybe someone is watching us from the 4th dimension? ............I'm thinking too much lol

  • The static perspective shows the graphics as isometric.

  • Dude, you got some far out stuff on there.

  • METROID³

  • that looks insane

  • this is better looking than Metroid Other M...

  • dude this, is like the best thing of metroid Ive seen.

  • Just a heads up if that is your website you can enable everything from the start making the game easily beatable within a few minutes dont know if it was on purpose if not its something to look into

  • Awesome use of voxels on Metroid, a good big game for voxel translation. It feels kind of disorienting, but this is a great version you made. The Brinstar music sounds odd with your filters. Anyway, this is a great game you made. The novel use of voxels is amazing.

  • this is soooooooooooooooo coooooooooooool!!!!!!

  • I think this and the original metroid looks better and sounds better than the metroid fusion on GBA. I see that as a disappointing irony

  • Starxxon, I'm curious about the music. The Famicom has some pretty advanced hardware compared to the NES, and I'm sure a few tunes (and the SFX) are from that version, but I know that many others are not.

  • @Laserbryte Actually the NES has an extra sound channel compared to the Famicom. But Metroid was released in Japan on the Famicom Disk System, which does provide extra FM-synthesis channels.

I did use FDS sound effects in Metroid Cubed. And the music played when you start, get an item and in the title screen do use these extra channels. In Metroid Cubed you can hear a mix of both versions. The actual level music is the same in both version, but I applied some filters on the individual tracks.

  • thats confusing

  • cool!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • good how download

  • That is brilliant!

  • Wow! Nice work!

  • Amazing work, I love it.

  • noticed enemy and doors behave a little differently. and that the music is alot worse

  • @joltmasta *better*

  • @Laserbryte nope. definitely worse

  • i had the same idea just with the ability to move in 3d as well as see in 3d

  • Holy crap this would be SO FUCKING AWESOME if my browser didn't keep freezing up whenever I tried playing the game! Great job! 10 out of 10 if I was a critic!

  • @telepathicninten

Look on Metroid Cubed's page, there's now a link to download a Windows or Mac version, which doesn't require a browser.

  • This is FUCKIN' AWESOME!!!

  • ZOMG 2.5 D :D nice

  • i would so get this, no lie. Not a fan of the old old metroid, but hell this is good!

  • It looks neat, but it seems to have made it alot harder. That, and it kinda hurts my eyes.

  • wow, you're creative!

  • Duh... you played it on MY website.

  • XD i laughed really hard XD

  • BTW, could you make like a SMB NES Game on your site, but instead of 2-Dimensional, it'll be 3-D!

  • Nintendo needs to look into this themselves. This could certainly add a whole new...er, DIMENTION, to the already fresh re-makes and additions to the franchise.

  • Why is it angled like that?

  • Nice job! :D

Are you a game programmer too?

  • How does it save? Is there like a save room, or a debug password system, or something?

  • this game was great the first time I played it, but even better, when I played this one

  • How does the "v" test visor work, is that implemented? I hit v and I'm not seeing anything.

Also, how do I make the world destructable? I don't know if this was a bug, but I was once playing the game and could literally blast every wall and object to pieces.

  • The visor thing doesn't really work, that's why it was labelled "test".

The destructible terrain is available only in the "Metroid Cubed Rotation Demo". That's probably where you've seen it.

  • Ahh, of course forgot all about that demo. I knew the visor was experimental, but I thought it was available in some form, thanks for clearing that up!

One last question, how about the 3d map? I pressed alt in the menu but couldn't get it going. Am I missing something, or is that a future feature too?

  • it,s soimetric 3d but still impressive.

  • it would be helpful if the game let you turn the screen because when im playing i cant see!

but it is a really good game

  • I have a suggestion...

Maybe you could make it so Samus can crouch and aim diagonal.

  • samus?

  • Wicked.

  • That's a fantastic.

  • Is this game just as hard as the original Metroid?

  • oh ya

I think it's alittle easier maybe from what i've seen its the same

  • lmao at 5:39, sounds like somebody ripped one one.

  • It's the sound effect when you kill a "big" enemy in the Japanese version, which had different sound effects (using the extra sound hardware in the Famicom Disk System)

  • I see, thanks for the info!

  • the music is awesome

  • Hey I played this the other day but when I tried to save the editor to a rom it crashed 0n0

  • I'm very impressed!

  • what ever happened 2 the fan made metroid prime 2d ?

  • It's cool, but, I really see no point in it other than a fun little project... looks, like it'd be kinda hard from the strange angles and stuff... but it does look really good.

  • Ultra cool, I love this remake.

  • ooh yeah...I remember playing your demo...short obviously, but fun!

  • looks really awesome but seems like it'd be hard to play.
