an i7 is NOT 8 cores. Its 4 cores. each with 2 threads. giving a total of 8 threads. which in task manager shows up as 8 cores. But it isnt. And wouldnt perform like 8 cores. That said. the i7 2600//2700Ks are crazy good.

Some i7s are 4 cores. the i7 2600 2500 and 2700. the 1st gen i7s like the 920 930 940 are 4 cores. the 1st gen 6 core i7s are the 970 and the 980x. the 2nd gen 6 cores are the X3930 and X3960 chips. using the new socket 2011 motherboards. These are the real big daddies. the 2600/2500 etc use socket 1155 and the old 1st gen chips use socket 1356.

Its a bit muddled up but the info is there lol. Those 6 cores chips (970 980x 3930 3960) have 6 cores and 12 threads! Beast

i7 isn't 8 core. It's 4 core except it has a hyperthreading feature, which means it can use between 4 and 8 cores at any given time. Only buy a laptop if you are actually going to be moving it around a lot, reason being: desktop processors are generally faster and if you invest $25 in a cheap aftermarket cooler, you can safely overclock the processor to 4.0Ghz or more.
