  • Using it in a "boutique" way? ugh

  • I bet this amp would sound good with a telecaster

  • do Johny B. Good!!

  • Comment removed

  • value is a musician's best friend

  • Does this guy remind anyone else of a younger Michael J. Fox?

  • i think hes mixing up you shook me all night long song!

  • wow this amp sounds really good

  • Well, I am late to the party, but holy hell this thing sounds great!

  • great amp - i just tried one. Awesome tube sound

  • Is this better than Peavey Valveking ?

  • @vladradoi I would say so, but that's just my opinion.

  • @vladradoi Valveking sounds like this " BZzzzzzZzzz Zuuuuooo zzzzz ;D " - weird. Kustom sounds - clong clong, dong, dong, bang bang - the easiest way to show how big difference it's ;P - great choice for this price. A new series of kustom the defender amps showed up - check out V112 with Celestion V30 ( build in vox style )

    Sorry for bad english, greetings!

  • wtf? it sounds like a metal-amp, but it´s a blues-rock amp??

  • @Feileiks because it is called a kustom defender

  • The mic placement seems odd. Not even infront of the speaker, rather infront of the wood panel. Weird.

  • @johndcofdc it's off-axis a lot. You need to search for the best spot when mic'ing an amp, slap-bang in front of the speaker isn't always the best.

  • Fuck, I just found my dirty amp.

  • is it too loud for bedroom practice?

  • Give this baby a ts9 and get that metal chug instantly.

  • Great review! The only thing i really dislike about most of the reviews on Youtube is that they never play metal or something else really heavy. I want to play metal so i want to know how metal sounds on an amp. If they don't play metal, i don't know if i wanna buy the amp...

  • why do u even care his gay or not , ur here to see the amp right ? not unless UR gay and wanted to judge the dude .

  • Do pedals go good with the clean tone?

  • great tone, awful and gay dude.

  • i really liked this amp.. but sadly there s no effects loop :(

  • Good thing I didn't buy this amp because it is bad for metal so good thing I'd the marshall 30 DFX with distortion pedal great for metal.

  • @Hatredismypride Used to own a marshall 30DFX, don't waste your money man, the honeymoon phase ends real quick. Check out the Peavey Vypyr 75, that thing doesn't even need a pedal for metal

  • @astro2069 amm...dude I only just bought the Marshall and pedal for only 200$ its a bogoe deal

  • @Hatredismypride In retrospect I wouldn't pay $50 for it a second time around

  • @Hatredismypride Fuck Marshall MG's, and FUCK METAL

  • @Bluesguitar247 lol faggot you suck huge daddy dick blues guitar is shit they have no skil and you know it faggot

  • @varulv234 yeah my mistake, I just checked out your vids, Im sorry for being so retarded. You clearly are an amazing player...... bahahha! :L

  • @Bluesguitar247 If I were you, I wouldn't refer to my videos for checking out my skills. I never upload videos anymore, and those videos are old, my mentally challenged friend. I have no means as to record any decent quality videos, so I'm not uploading anymore. Just for some sweep-shred meaningless stuff, check out this. It's ME, Jeppe Møller.

  • @varulv234 Asshole. He complimented your playing and you called him mentally challenged? Jeez. Get your head out of your butt.

  • @Hatredismypride You can play metal with a clean amp if you know how to dial it in and play right.

  • is he just playing to play, or are those actual songs?

  • lol the microphone is not even in frond of the speaker XD

  • @coreyfromtheband It does look odd, but you should put the mic at the edge of the cone instead of in front of it's center. I don't know why, exactly, but I can guess.

  • @vlxxx its to change the tone of the recording from the amp. i think it has something to do with the presence and treble and bass frequencies

  • @Magoooobly Moving the mic around adds another element of EQ. Different placement for different results.

  • Does Kustom make anything like the 1968 Kustom K200A-4 the John Fogerty used in the early days with CCR? Apparently it had tremolo/vibrator, harmonic clipper, reverb, and boost built in.

  • @kulgion Their Coupe '72 is the closest to John's amp. It has some of the classic tuck 'n roll, and it's got reverb and a blendable tremolo/vibrato.

It is an all-tube amp, as opposed to the old solid state Kustoms, so the built-in overdrive doesn't sound exactly like John's unique harmonic clipper tone.

  • This sounds a lot like a "Black Crows" sound. Excellent!

  • Can you guys tell me where this amp is made? It seems like a great amp, I'm just skeptical on where it's put together.

  • Might just get the head for an easy way to throw a rhythm track that doesn't match without having to mess around with EQs. This is surprisingly good sounding.

  • I like it. I'm torn between it and Peavey's 6505+. So many amps, so little time (and money).

  • @highvelocity2

Go & get the kustom double cross. It has everything from a great clean to a monster distortion sound.

  • how much is this amp??

  • I noticed a handful of people talked about using with a cab, and I agree. I have one and replaced the speaker; easily it's weakest link, with an Eminence Texas Heat. It sounds really good paired with a decent Marshall and real British Celestions (G12M/G12H). other than the stock speaker I couldn't be more satisfied with this amp.

  • Hey , is that Michael J. Fox?

  • I know this has nothing to do with the video but it would be really appreciated if someone answered this... how come the Kustom Quad 200DFX has a balls setting..... wtf is that?

  • @Unequipped5 It's distortion I believe

  • @MitchRulzWorld wierd way of presenting it.... lol

  • @Unequipped5 Yea.

  • I have this exact amp...so nice and it was cheap. You need distortion pedals if you want high-gain sounds.

  • i hate kustom

  • I would say this amp CAN in fact do metal, just not the way too scooped dimebag darrel tones, but for those tones you are better off with solid state amps or at least SS pedals. This can do 80's thrash with ease, all you need is some high output passive humbuckers and heavy gauge strings (11s or 12s), on a set-neck mahogany guitar (or a Korina Explorer) and crank the gain and volume and maybe use an extension cab. This won't do "nu-metal", but no tube amp should be made to do that!

  • @punkeratheart but who the fuck would want to do that?

  • @TheMullerFan Do what? Play metal on a tube amp? I don't play metal, and I certainly don't like putting SS pedals in front of my tube amps, but this amp could do metal. Like I said, no one wants to play "NuMetal" on a tube amp, and if they do, it's only because they think it makes them cool to have a tube amp.

  • Ohh.. I sounds a lot better with the boost on.. I need to try this amp :P

  • Does anyone here own a Kustom KB200H bass head? If you do, do you like it and does it sound good?

  • but can it crunch?

  • @godfree2canada needs apedal once channle and its clean

  • great scott! i have no idea why but this guy always reminds me of marty mcfly in the back to the future films. thats heavy...

  • @dilbert103

    Really?Me too!

    Every time!!!!

  • if you want a amp that you will be happy with, dont buy a solid state, buy a tube amp. First time i played a tube amp i fell in love

  • Hi!

What is better? Peavey Valveking 112 or Kustom Defender?

  • kuston defender :) have one! and i love it!

  • its 50 watt tube , loud as fuck

  • hell yea brotha! no 50w solid state can get as loud as a 30w tube!

  • @bonjovifan89 my 5 watt tube marshall class 5 is as loud as my ibanez tbx30r solid state

  • @skaterguitar4ever Through a 2x12 extension cab the class 5 will get as loud as any 50-60 watt solid state amp through the same cab, easily.

  • the first chords are a good rancid tone imo but without the reverb

  • fastermummyharder wrote:

"Its prob better that the guy plays the same lics on other vids, give a chance to compare the tone"

    me says, +1

  • It sound pretty good

  • yes you may play with drums.thank you for asking first.

  • Lol!

  • I dig this little amp, its light to take to Jams, I run it through a Marshall twin speaker box that gives it a better tone.

Its all about Taste and Tone isn't it. It sounds like what it is, a simple valve amp. Great with a valve overdrive.

    Not for metal heads.

Not for peeps that are looking for branded gear to forfill their ego.

Its prob better that the guy plays the same lics on other vids, give a chance to compare the tone.

  • i have a kustom and its not that good. good for beginners

  • I loved it to start with but after playing in my band I hate it. Definitely needs something like a cab to help the tone Coz that speaker sucks.

  • our guitarrist has a kustom amp as well. a 50 watt one. he connected it to a marshall 4x12 cabinet and it kicked ass. and the 10 db booster helps a lot for solos and/or a thicker sound during the chorus

  • I hate this guy, he plays the same licks everytime and he is the most generic guitar player ever.

  • I have a different take on it, kind of. He's trying to demonstrate the gear -- not his chops. I might do the same, were I to demonstrate gear (though my ego would prompt me to show off, more than likely.)

Nonetheless, your take on it is perfectly valid -- there are plenty of aspects regarding gear that are only demonstrable via hot chops & skill. Plus, there's the interest factor.

    Play on =).

  • Im the opposite, I play real quiet when I go to GC and shop around lol...I dont like being a showoff

  • @ajatkinson2004 same here

  • @ajatkinson2004

you end up getting a shitty sound then bud,and you rob yourself of understanding how the amp would even sound .if you don't turn up a tube amp you dont get the warm, creamy distortion that only occurs at higher volumes.

so if you dont turn it up because your afraid you might offend someone, then just buy a nice 10 watt solid state amp thart sucks and go home and dont turn it up there too !!!

  • @ajatkinson2004 lol im the same way, i can go to a GC and hear 15 people play either metallica, ACDC, or led zeppelin....but im usually over in the corner with the volume on one just loud enough for me to hear while playin carlos santana or somethin

  • its a demo, so why should that matter? hes not trying to wow anyone hes just demonstrating the sounds

  • ladies and gentlemen, the george will of rock

  • I have that same amp. I bought it two years ago, and I still have it. I even sold an ENGL Thunder combo, because I felt that this amp sounded better, at least for my taste.

The only thing that I've upgraded was, that I changed the speaker for a Celestion Heritage, and after that the tone was really working for me! It's a really good amp for a beginner to get-to-know tubeamplifiers.

  • does anyone know what they mean by EL34 or 6L6 powered? and what is the autobiase switch and how that works?

  • EL34 and 6L6 are the power tubes (opposed to the preamp tubes). EL34 = Marshall. 6L6 = Fender. (generalizing here of course!)

Bias determines the operating level of the output tubes. Different tubes require specific bias, and the bias usually needs to be adjusted by an amp tech. With the bias adjust switch, you can swap in different sets of output tubes without another visit to your local tech.

  • is this realla a one channel amp?

  • I just bought one of these on a whim. I kind of regretted it at first but the more I play it the more I love it. I put a 112 mesa boogie extension cab under it and an Ibanez Tubescreamer in front for a little more gain. It is fucking loud as shit and the definition is great. A great buy I think...........

  • You think if i Put a Tube Screamer, like a Bad Monkey or Something. Will it be Good For Heavy Metal?

  • It is not a high gain amp, even with a pedal. The tube screamer is not a distortion pedal its a signal boosting pedal or you could call it an overdrive pedal I guess. So i get the classic metal sound like Old Sabbath. I would say save your pennies and get a high gain amp so you don;t have to clutter with distortion pedals. Look at a good used 5150 combo. I see'em on E-bay a lot for 500-700 bucks. Shop around and dont settle for something half ass. Find your sound.

  • Thanks a lot dude. :]

  • a tubescreamer is an overdrive pedal.

  • hey, about how long do tubes last for generally playing like 2 times a week. because i'm getting this amp soon, and i'm wondering if i should change the tubes out :] thanks.

  • It sounds like Alex Lifesons tone or maybe an AC/DC tone.

SO many underestimate what a Kustom amp can sound like wich is very sad : (

  • This is a nice amp, but how the heck is it clean?

  • Alright, right on. It's has nice clean and overdriven tones. But, the amp aint heavy enuff for me. But, we all have our own opinions. Just remember to try it out before buying.

  • For people who don't want to spend a lot of money on an amp that you want to use for heavy metal/death metal or just straight metal/rock/blues and want to use it for a practice and a gigging amp, I suggest getting a Kustom Quad65DFX combo. It's easy to carry around and isn't too loud like a 100w amp head. It's the amp I'm going to buy this summer. You wont be disappointed if you ever buy that amp. Trust me. I played it. It also sounds good for pedals. Check it out!

  • guys, i wanna have heavy metal sound, should i buy it or better serach for anotherone?

  • i suggest you search around. If I were you i would get the same amp that i have, which is a line 6 spider 3 valve 212, but i dont know how much you want to spend.

  • Any amp can be a Metal Amp by simply placing a Boss Metal Zone in front of it.

An amp like this is more unforgiving, you can't cover up crappy playing with gain. To rectify that, I suggest guitar lessons.

  • EPIC FAIL.

  • haha, i was thinking that as soon as i saw "Metal Zone"

  • Why are there thumbs down to this statement? It's not candy coated but it's true, alot of crappy guitarists cover up their bad playing with distortion and effects. I prefer to make my crappy playing openly known. I feel the people I'm playing for have a right to know.

  • It's not meant to. It's not meant to be some big heavy distorted metal amp. It's a vintage voiced amp for playing classic styles. Not every amp will get t3h br00t4lz. some people actually like cleaner sounds.

  • id love to try this amp

  • They are Chinese made amps to a medium standard. Standard medium quality trannys and "just get by with it" other parts all tuned to bring out the best possible sound, considering the limitations.

  • Most Kustom amps are boutique amps made for rehearsal.

  • is this a good amp for metal? i like the clean on it but i was gunna get a boss gt 10 with this and run it with my dean cemetery gates razorback..is it good for metal?

  • how do you define "metal sound"?

  • Well, I don't like that modern, in my opinion overly compressed and far too much distorted "metal" sound.

I'm more the fan of those 70's and 80's sounds, delivered by cranked marshall plexis or early marshall master volume models.

Also I dig the sound of the Soldano SLO (with Gain set to a tasteful level)

  • im a big fan of 70-very early 90's rock and metal

nugent to metallica to pantera...my favorites =P

  • Some of my favorite artists are the guys who figure out ways to coax more modern tones out of vintage gear. I don't know if you've ever heard of Ian Thornley, but when he was fronting a band called Big Wreck, he was doing crazy things with a Tennessean through some old Fender Silver Face head units and old Fender cabs. Though I'm sure he used a trick or two, he got some pretty thick and ballsy tones out of those things. Real pant flapper that guy was. He uses Marshalls now I think.

  • what youre basically saying is yore a faggot

  • What the hell? And btw, why?

  • Distorted to Bejeezus and Loud as hell.

  • Really good amp

  • Can someone tell me if this amp is better than Kustom HV 100?

  • the HV does have two channels, really depends what you're looking for

  • awesome amp

  • The basic sound, specially the clean sound of the Defender is very good.

  • this guys has a special ability to make every gear sound bad.

  • Wow how could it be physically possible to do that??

  • Comment removed

  • Is this amp loud enough for little gigs?

  • yes. ita frekin 50 watt!!! hell yhea!

  • dont listen to him he doesnt know what hes talking about

  • ive never heard of this kinda amp

  • does anyone know the amps as blood runs black uses

  • mesa . dual and triple rectifiers .. im taking a guess by watching the video my fears have become phobias it looks like it to me .. and sounds alot like it.

  • they used to play rectifiers but now they changed to kustoms. i just dont know which ones exactly

  • When i saw em a few months ago they used peavey 5150 & mesa triple rec.

  • The Kustom "Dual"-series is a better buy, IMO. I used to have a 35DFX and it was a pretty good amp....if you didn't mind the FM radio station traffic bleeding through whenever you had the (gawdawful anyway really) gain really cranked up.

  • does this amp have an effects loop?

i hope so cause if not i won't buy it..

  • yeah i think almost all tube amps do. it's probably in the back.

  • this one doesn't.

and actually, most low-watt tube amp don't apparently. that sucks...

  • You probably will not need one. I have looked up a lot of reviews of this amp. And it says that effect pedals shine with this amp.

  • but does it make sense to put post-preamp effects like delay chorus and such, into the input of the amp?

  • It's probably because it's geared more towards blues playing, which generally doesn't call for any more effects than maybe some reverb.

  • No man there's no effects loop. I'm playing my friends right now...other than no effects loop it sounds great, close to a Fender Super Reverb or Deluxe.

  • He slaps the strings at 4:25 and does a slide down but you don't hear any sound. :D

  • * I'm wrong about the slide, don't have my contacts in.

  • I've been thinking to buy this amp. Is it really a good bargain? I'm not playing metal, just rock, blues and country. And I'm going to use the amp with the clean settings, the overdrives are coming from pedals.

  • get the amp arttuonline. the clean setting is CRISTAL CLEAR. and if you want more of a country sound, just trtun the treble and presestance up at about 2 or 3 O'Clock. I LOVE KUSTOM amps, and I JUST messaged them on myspace, asking them for a deal, i hope that happens!

But yhea, I trust Kustom more than any brand on earth (besides ibanez's amps, there are also pretty damn good) i ONLY use Kustom Amps, ans Ibanez Guitars.

Get the Amp, and get a pedal too :)

  • Oh right, I'm going to get this one. ;)

  • The youtube-audio is really the last piece of shit. I have this amp at home and when you turn on the bright-switch the difference is like day and night. Here you can hear bearly any differece at all

  • does this amp take pedals well? i'm really taking this into consideration.

  • yhea. what kind of pedal? distortion?

  • yeah overdrive, wah, reverb, and just pedals in general.

  • why did someone mark my "YES" down? I own THIS AMP, I know its effects. Its effects are great, so dont be marking down crap that you dont even know if its "true" or not. I play metal sometimes, and you have to do is plug in a distortion pedal, get a god setting on the pedal, and you can play metal.

I KNOW MY S***. dont be acting like a smart ass to me.

KUSTOM AMPS ARE THE BEST, THEY BEAT MARSHALLS ASS! hah!

  • Hey does this amp sound good at low volumes?

  • Yhea, the Lowest I put it on is on 0'oclock, cause its very loud in my room, but I havent played in days, I dont play guitar when I have a cold, or dont shower(lol). but back to the question, YES. it will.

  • what is 0 o'clock? that doesnt exist lol. sorry im not trying to be a dick i just dont understand what u mean :-)

  • well, what i ment on "0" oclock was, even with the volume knob turned ALL THE WAY down, you still get noise, so it really never mutes unless you turn down the master. sorry for the confusion. this amp is very loud for a 50 watt-er!

  • what a crappy amp

  • hahahhahahahha! you call THIS crappy? hahahahha! I own 1 of em'! and YOUR telling ME that MY MUSIC IS SHI**y? hahahahahhahahah! omg, get a life man.

  • marshall?? you dont even know wath music he plays...

  • your an idiot

  • That sounds like a killer country and blues amp. Drools...

  • is it good for metal?

  • He said no at about 4:09.

  • BS man, it sure does!

  • Hmm, but at about :20 seconds in he says it sounds like a heavy metal amp...well either way, I'm sure you could get what you want if you use the right pedals. The cool thing is that the distortion sound it comes with is 100% natural. The way its wired its as if you are turning it up as loud as it can go but with the master control it stays relatively quiet. So you get 100% oldschool natural distortion. Thats pretty awesome.

  • Yeah agreed. It sounds awesome. But does it crank the power tubes at low volumes? I'd expect preamp distortion only at low volumes. But yeah it really sings! :-) A bit middy for metal, though you could EQ it. If you're getting your distortion from a pedal, does it matter much what amp you use? (If you know what I mean)

  • i kinda dont know what you mean, sorry. you can use a pedal, pedals are great on this amp, great tone, everything.

  • (davidarlette)

i run pedals through a kustom and fender amp. using the same pedals, both sound different so yea, you get different sounds running pedals through different amps :D

  • i think he means the name sounds like a heavey metal amp.
