@vladradoi Valveking sounds like this " BZzzzzzZzzz Zuuuuooo zzzzz ;D " - weird. Great review! The only thing i really dislike about most of the reviews on Youtube is that they never play metal or something else really heavy. I want to play metal so i want to know how metal sounds on an amp. If they don't play metal, i don't know if i wanna buy the amp...
@Hatredismypride Used to own a marshall 30DFX, don't waste your money man, the honeymoon phase ends real quick. Check out the Peavey Vypyr 75, that thing doesn't even need a pedal for metal
@Bluesguitar247 If I were you, I wouldn't refer to my videos for checking out my skills. I never upload videos anymore, and those videos are old, my mentally challenged friend. I have no means as to record any decent quality videos, so I'm not uploading anymore. Just for some sweep-shred meaningless stuff, check out this. It's ME, Jeppe Møller.
@coreyfromtheband It does look odd, but you should put the mic at the edge of the cone instead of in front of it's center. I don't know why, exactly, but I can guess.
Does Kustom make anything like the 1968 Kustom K200A-4 the John Fogerty used in the early days with CCR? Apparently it had tremolo/vibrator, harmonic clipper, reverb, and boost built in.
@kulgion Their Coupe '72 is the closest to John's amp. It has some of the classic tuck 'n roll, and it's got reverb and a blendable tremolo/vibrato.
It is an all-tube amp, as opposed to the old solid state Kustoms, so the built-in overdrive doesn't sound exactly like John's unique harmonic clipper tone.
Might just get the head for an easy way to throw a rhythm track that doesn't match without having to mess around with EQs. This is surprisingly good sounding.
I noticed a handful of people talked about using with a cab, and I agree. I have one and replaced the speaker; easily it's weakest link, with an Eminence Texas Heat. It sounds really good paired with a decent Marshall and real British Celestions (G12M/G12H). other than the stock speaker I couldn't be more satisfied with this amp.
I know this has nothing to do with the video but it would be really appreciated if someone answered this... how come the Kustom Quad 200DFX has a balls setting..... wtf is that?
I would say this amp CAN in fact do metal, just not the way too scooped dimebag darrel tones, but for those tones you are better off with solid state amps or at least SS pedals. This can do 80's thrash with ease, all you need is some high output passive humbuckers and heavy gauge strings (11s or 12s), on a set-neck mahogany guitar (or a Korina Explorer) and crank the gain and volume and maybe use an extension cab. This won't do "nu-metal", but no tube amp should be made to do that!
@TheMullerFan Do what? Play metal on a tube amp? I don't play metal, and I certainly don't like putting SS pedals in front of my tube amps, but this amp could do metal. Like I said, no one wants to play "NuMetal" on a tube amp, and if they do, it's only because they think it makes them cool to have a tube amp.
our guitarrist has a kustom amp as well. a 50 watt one. he connected it to a marshall 4x12 cabinet and it kicked ass. and the 10 db booster helps a lot for solos and/or a thicker sound during the chorus
I have a different take on it, kind of. He's trying to demonstrate the gear -- not his chops. I might do the same, were I to demonstrate gear (though my ego would prompt me to show off, more than likely.)
Nonetheless, your take on it is perfectly valid -- there are plenty of aspects regarding gear that are only demonstrable via hot chops & skill. Plus, there's the interest factor.
you end up getting a shitty sound then bud,and you rob yourself of understanding how the amp would even sound .if you don't turn up a tube amp you dont get the warm, creamy distortion that only occurs at higher volumes.
so if you dont turn it up because your afraid you might offend someone, then just buy a nice 10 watt solid state amp thart sucks and go home and dont turn it up there too !!!
@ajatkinson2004 lol im the same way, i can go to a GC and hear 15 people play either metallica, ACDC, or led zeppelin....but im usually over in the corner with the volume on one just loud enough for me to hear while playin carlos santana or somethin
I have that same amp. I bought it two years ago, and I still have it. I even sold an ENGL Thunder combo, because I felt that this amp sounded better, at least for my taste.
The only thing that I've upgraded was, that I changed the speaker for a Celestion Heritage, and after that the tone was really working for me! It's a really good amp for a beginner to get-to-know tubeamplifiers.
EL34 and 6L6 are the power tubes (opposed to the preamp tubes). EL34 = Marshall. 6L6 = Fender. (generalizing here of course!)
Bias determines the operating level of the output tubes. Different tubes require specific bias, and the bias usually needs to be adjusted by an amp tech. With the bias adjust switch, you can swap in different sets of output tubes without another visit to your local tech.
I just bought one of these on a whim. I kind of regretted it at first but the more I play it the more I love it. I put a 112 mesa boogie extension cab under it and an Ibanez Tubescreamer in front for a little more gain. It is fucking loud as shit and the definition is great. A great buy I think...........

So i get the classic metal sound like Old Sabbath. I would say save your pennies and get a high gain amp so you don;t have to clutter with distortion pedals. Look at a good used 5150 combo. I see'em on E-bay a lot for 500-700 bucks. Shop around and dont settle for something half ass. Find your sound.
hey, about how long do tubes last for generally playing like 2 times a week. because i'm getting this amp soon, and i'm wondering if i should change the tubes out :] thanks.
Alright, right on. It's has nice clean and overdriven tones. But, the amp aint heavy enuff for me. But, we all have our own opinions. Just remember to try it out before buying.
For people who don't want to spend a lot of money on an amp that you want to use for heavy metal/death metal or just straight metal/rock/blues and want to use it for a practice and a gigging amp, I suggest getting a Kustom Quad65DFX combo. It's easy to carry around and isn't too loud like a 100w amp head. It's the amp I'm going to buy this summer. You wont be disappointed if you ever buy that amp. Trust me. I played it. It also sounds good for pedals. Check it out!
i suggest you search around. If I were you i would get the same amp that i have, which is a line 6 spider 3 valve 212, but i dont know how much you want to spend.
Why are there thumbs down to this statement? It's not candy coated but it's true, alot of crappy guitarists cover up their bad playing with distortion and effects. I prefer to make my crappy playing openly known. I feel the people I'm playing for have a right to know.
It's not meant to. It's not meant to be some big heavy distorted metal amp. It's a vintage voiced amp for playing classic styles. Not every amp will get t3h br00t4lz. some people actually like cleaner sounds.
They are Chinese made amps to a medium standard. Standard medium quality trannys and "just get by with it" other parts all tuned to bring out the best possible sound, considering the limitations.
is this a good amp for metal? i like the clean on it but i was gunna get a boss gt 10 with this and run it with my dean cemetery gates razorback..is it good for metal?
Some of my favorite artists are the guys who figure out ways to coax more modern tones out of vintage gear. I don't know if you've ever heard of Ian Thornley, but when he was fronting a band called Big Wreck, he was doing crazy things with a Tennessean through some old Fender Silver Face head units and old Fender cabs. Though I'm sure he used a trick or two, he got some pretty thick and ballsy tones out of those things. Real pant flapper that guy was. He uses Marshalls now I think.
this amp sounds much better than others i've played through around this price range and it is plenty loud for bar gigs and such. i have a pedal board i plug into, and it sounds great completely clean as well as using tons of effects. only thing was it didn't come with the boost switch included (but it doesn't matter u don't need that shit anyway)
the tone is so nice with my les paul, my strat and even my acoustic
mesa . dual and triple rectifiers .. im taking a guess by watching the video my fears have become phobias it looks like it to me .. and sounds alot like it.
The Kustom "Dual"-series is a better buy, IMO. I used to have a 35DFX and it was a pretty good amp....if you didn't mind the FM radio station traffic bleeding through whenever you had the (gawdawful anyway really) gain really cranked up.
No man there's no effects loop. I'm playing my friends right now...other than no effects loop it sounds great, close to a Fender Super Reverb or Deluxe.
I've been thinking to buy this amp. Is it really a good bargain? I'm not playing metal, just rock, blues and country. And I'm going to use the amp with the clean settings, the overdrives are coming from pedals.
get the amp arttuonline. the clean setting is CRISTAL CLEAR. and if you want more of a country sound, just trtun the treble and presestance up at about 2 or 3 O'Clock. I LOVE KUSTOM amps, and I JUST messaged them on myspace, asking them for a deal, i hope that happens!
But yhea, I trust Kustom more than any brand on earth (besides ibanez's amps, there are also pretty damn good) i ONLY use Kustom Amps, ans Ibanez Guitars.
The youtube-audio is really the last piece of shit. I have this amp at home and when you turn on the bright-switch the difference is like day and night. Here you can hear bearly any differece at all
why did someone mark my "YES" down? I own THIS AMP, I know its effects. Its effects are great, so dont be marking down crap that you dont even know if its "true" or not. I play metal sometimes, and you have to do is plug in a distortion pedal, get a god setting on the pedal, and you can play metal.
I KNOW MY S***. dont be acting like a smart ass to me.
KUSTOM AMPS ARE THE BEST, THEY BEAT MARSHALLS ASS! hah!
Yhea, the Lowest I put it on is on 0'oclock, cause its very loud in my room, but I havent played in days, I dont play guitar when I have a cold, or dont shower(lol). but back to the question, YES. it will.
well, what i ment on "0" oclock was, even with the volume knob turned ALL THE WAY down, you still get noise, so it really never mutes unless you turn down the master. sorry for the confusion. this amp is very loud for a 50 watt-er!
Hmm, but at about :20 seconds in he says it sounds like a heavy metal amp...well either way, I'm sure you could get what you want if you use the right pedals. The cool thing is that the distortion sound it comes with is 100% natural. The way its wired its as if you are turning it up as loud as it can go but with the master control it stays relatively quiet. So you get 100% oldschool natural distortion. Thats pretty awesome.
Yeah agreed. It sounds awesome. But does it crank the power tubes at low volumes? I'd expect preamp distortion only at low volumes. But yeah it really sings! :-) A bit middy for metal, though you could EQ it. If you're getting your distortion from a pedal, does it matter much what amp you use? (If you know what I mean)
i run pedals through a kustom and fender amp. using the same pedals, both sound different so yea, you get different sounds running pedals through different amps :D
Using it in a "boutique" way? ugh

Why are there thumbs down to this statement? It's not candy coated but it's true, alot of crappy guitarists cover up their bad playing with distortion and effects. I prefer to make my crappy playing openly known. I feel the people I'm playing for have a right to know.
diminishedseventh 2 years ago 4
It's not meant to. It's not meant to be some big heavy distorted metal amp. It's a vintage voiced amp for playing classic styles. Not every amp will get t3h br00t4lz. some people actually like cleaner sounds.

id love to try this amp
caskettheclown 2 years ago
They are Chinese made amps to a medium standard. Standard medium quality trannys and "just get by with it" other parts all tuned to bring out the best possible sound, considering the limitations.

Most Kustom amps are boutique amps made for rehearsal.
Mirthless79 2 years ago
is this a good amp for metal? i like the clean on it but i was gunna get a boss gt 10 with this and run it with my dean cemetery gates razorback..is it good for metal?
dan2stories 2 years ago
how do you define "metal sound"?
steelwizard 2 years ago

how DONT you...
dan2stories 2 years ago
Well, I don't like that modern, in my opinion overly compressed and far too much distorted "metal" sound.
I'm more the fan of those 70's and 80's sounds, delivered by cranked marshall plexis or early marshall master volume models.
Also I dig the sound of the Soldano SLO (with Gain set to a tasteful level)
steelwizard 2 years ago
im a big fan of 70-very early 90's rock and metal
nugent to metallica to pantera...my favorites =P
dan2stories 2 years ago
Some of my favorite artists are the guys who figure out ways to coax more modern tones out of vintage gear. I don't know if you've ever heard of Ian Thornley, but when he was fronting a band called Big Wreck, he was doing crazy things with a Tennessean through some old Fender Silver Face head units and old Fender cabs. Though I'm sure he used a trick or two, he got some pretty thick and ballsy tones out of those things. Real pant flapper that guy was. He uses Marshalls now I think.

this amp sounds much better than others i've played through around this price range and it is plenty loud for bar gigs and such. i have a pedal board i plug into, and it sounds great completely clean as well as using tons of effects. only thing was it didn't come with the boost switch included (but it doesn't matter u don't need that shit anyway)
the tone is so nice with my les paul, my strat and even my acoustic
if play any kind of music (except nu-metal)
you'll love this amp

mesa . dual and triple rectifiers .. im taking a guess by watching the video my fears have become phobias it looks like it to me .. and sounds alot like it.
PyrocydeGuitarist 2 years ago
they used to play rectifiers but now they changed to kustoms. i just dont know which ones exactly
bathroomwarrior94 2 years ago
When i saw em a few months ago they used peavey 5150 & mesa triple rec.
ketutscope 2 years ago
The Kustom "Dual"-series is a better buy, IMO. I used to have a 35DFX and it was a pretty good amp....if you didn't mind the FM radio station traffic bleeding through whenever you had the (gawdawful anyway really) gain really cranked up.
revolutionday1 3 years ago
does this amp have an effects loop?
i hope so cause if not i won't buy it..
yayayair 3 years ago
yeah i think almost all tube amps do. it's probably in the back.
sircraigery 3 years ago
this one doesn't.
and actually, most low-watt tube amp don't apparently. that sucks...
yayayair 3 years ago 2
You probably will not need one. I have looked up a lot of reviews of this amp. And it says that effect pedals shine with this amp.
IamTheRedneck 3 years ago 2
but does it make sense to put post-preamp effects like delay chorus and such, into the input of the amp?
yayayair 3 years ago
It's probably because it's geared more towards blues playing, which generally doesn't call for any more effects than maybe some reverb.
Weybl 3 years ago
No man there's no effects loop. I'm playing my friends right now...other than no effects loop it sounds great, close to a Fender Super Reverb or Deluxe.
TheGuitarTheory 3 years ago
He slaps the strings at 4:25 and does a slide down but you don't hear any sound. :D
SappigeAjuin 3 years ago
* I'm wrong about the slide, don't have my contacts in.
SappigeAjuin 3 years ago
I've been thinking to buy this amp. Is it really a good bargain? I'm not playing metal, just rock, blues and country. And I'm going to use the amp with the clean settings, the overdrives are coming from pedals.
Arttuonline 3 years ago 2
get the amp arttuonline. the clean setting is CRISTAL CLEAR. and if you want more of a country sound, just trtun the treble and presestance up at about 2 or 3 O'Clock.
Get the Amp, and get a pedal too :)
IanKusekSoloArtist 3 years ago
Oh right, I'm going to get this one. ;)
Arttuonline 3 years ago 2
The youtube-audio is really the last piece of shit. I have this amp at home and when you turn on the bright-switch the difference is like day and night. Here you can hear bearly any differece at all
PbVeritas 3 years ago
does this amp take pedals well? i'm really taking this into consideration.
aftguitar94 3 years ago
yhea. what kind of pedal? distortion?
IanKusekSoloArtist 3 years ago
yeah overdrive, wah, reverb, and just pedals in general.
aftguitar94 3 years ago
why did someone mark my "YES" down? I own THIS AMP, I know its effects. Its effects are great, so dont be marking down crap that you dont even know if its "true" or not. I play metal sometimes, and you have to do is plug in a distortion pedal, get a god setting on the pedal, and you can play metal.
I KNOW MY S***. dont be acting like a smart ass to me.
KUSTOM AMPS ARE THE BEST, THEY BEAT MARSHALLS ASS! hah!
IanKusekSoloArtist 3 years ago
Hey does this amp sound good at low volumes?
fredericiscool 3 years ago
Yhea, the Lowest I put it on is on 0'oclock, cause its very loud in my room, but I havent played in days, I dont play guitar when I have a cold, or dont shower(lol). but back to the question, YES. it will.
IanKusekSoloArtist 3 years ago
what is 0 o'clock? that doesnt exist lol. sorry im not trying to be a dick i just dont understand what u mean :-)
jwalsh8 3 years ago
well, what i ment on "0" oclock was, even with the volume knob turned ALL THE WAY down, you still get noise, so it really never mutes unless you turn down the master. sorry for the confusion. this amp is very loud for a 50 watt-er!
IanKusekSoloArtist 2 years ago
what a crappy amp

is it good for metal?
fanofthesimpsons2 3 years ago
He said no at about 4:09.
davidarlette 3 years ago
BS man, it sure does!
IanKusekSoloArtist 3 years ago
Hmm, but at about :20 seconds in he says it sounds like a heavy metal amp...well either way, I'm sure you could get what you want if you use the right pedals. The cool thing is that the distortion sound it comes with is 100% natural. The way its wired its as if you are turning it up as loud as it can go but with the master control it stays relatively quiet. So you get 100% oldschool natural distortion. Thats pretty awesome.
LunarStride 3 years ago 2
Yeah agreed. It sounds awesome. But does it crank the power tubes at low volumes? I'd expect preamp distortion only at low volumes. But yeah it really sings! :-) A bit middy for metal, though you could EQ it. If you're getting your distortion from a pedal, does it matter much what amp you use? (If you know what I mean)
davidarlette 3 years ago
i kinda dont know what you mean, sorry. you can use a pedal, pedals are great on this amp, great tone, everything.
IanKusekSoloArtist 3 years ago
(davidarlette)
i run pedals through a kustom and fender amp. using the same pedals, both sound different so yea, you get different sounds running pedals through different amps :D
Addman03 3 years ago
i think he means the name sounds like a heavey metal amp.
