Like defygravityy below, I, too, just saw Romeo & Juliet at Vancouver Opera (tonight, final performance) and was surprised to find I did know at least one aria in the opera--this one. This is a really fine performance by Netrebko, missing only the en scene dramatization to make it quite perfect, I think. Thanks again.

I have just listened to 5 different versions of this aria from past and present singers, all absolutely fantastic in every way but Anna still has that something extra, maybe it is just the sheer beauty of her,for me she is absolutely perfect in every way. Rather messy. She darkens her voice too much, is sloppy in the coloratura passages, fails to hit and sustain the proper tone on the highest notes...and does she lack a trill? There is nothing remarkable about this voice, and the technique is lacking, often overriden by cheap stage tricks. I have seen her on stage (CAPULETTI at the ROH) and she is merely OK, no more. The fact that she has become a star is beyond comprehension and best attributed to media hype and her past looks (too fat now).

@wildberryfruit well, it´s ok, I am a big fan of netrebko but when I listened to Alejandres I liked her better because in my case I don´t like the way Netrebko sings the high notes, it´s kind of dificult for her because her vibrato is not natural at the beggining of her notes, it takes her a while til she can start making the vibrato, and aljandres notes ar more natural and I like the color of her voice, and her last note IT´S JUST GREAT

Obviously, if you haven't heard, listen to Diana Damrau and you'll see how ambiguous Netrebko's coloratura is in this piece.

Regardless, a great performance by a great, young, voice.

She really missed the beginning. If she's a trained opera singer, then she should have clearly gotten that. I performed that song when I was 15 and it didn't take that much to get the beginning "Ah" right. She's too flat on some parts, and she's too sharp on some parts. The only song I've ever heard her sing well is "O Mio Babbino Caro". This was a missed mark for me.
