Mate, the only reason you're getting thumbs down is because being gay is not a sexual "preference". You don't wake up one morning "preferring" to be gay.

Read the Daily Mail article on Gareth. Try as he did, he could not be "straight."

If anything, Gareth "preferred" to be straight, but be it innate, DNA, nature or nurture or what-have-you, Gareth is gay and that's that. But not by "choice." (There are a lot easier things than "choosing" to be gay.)

I'm an American so I haven't ever watched rugby, but I read the news about Gareth today and it made me smile with joy. I know how big rugby is across the world, and it makes me happy that someone like Gareth can be honest about himself and be accepted by his fellow teammates.
