Furthermore, these days catholics are doing a great job spreading AIDS in underdeveloped countries - so GO CATHOLICS GO!

The very fact that such a special is made shows the bigotry toward the Church is gigantic and acceptable. Why? Ask yourselves if a special: "are Jews a force for good in the world", where the option of "no" was an acceptable answer, or similarly about blacks, or any other group.

She is a greater possessor of material riches than any other single institution, corporation, bank, giant trust, government or state of the whole globe. The pope, as the visible ruler of this immense amassment of wealth, is consequently the richest individual of the twentieth century. No one can realistically assess how much he is worth in terms of billions of dollars

The bare and simple little apartment where JPII lived -and died -for example. Go find some info on it. He 'owned' nothing upon death. The Vatican -museums, artwork, etc. -do not belong to the pope, or to any one person. They belong to the entire Church, and in another sense, to the world,. What wealth are you talking about?

We all own 'things' -poperty, objects, gifts we've been given. The Church is 'evil' because it does so as well? The phrasing these authors use, like "secret" wealth, implies criminal doings or something. Again, it is just bigotry.

@hunga224 So, like when I see the St. Jud'es Children Hospital ads that say "no child is turned away, not even for lack of money", or whan the Catholic Schools I have taught in take in all kinds of kids -black, poor, rejected, non-Catholic, etc. -and give them great educations, often for free or reduced amounts, or when any number of Catholic services helps all kinds of people, THAT is ok with you, but you just get pissed and envious if the Church has some of its own wealth? That's fair.

@hunga224 The very title is flawed, meant to paint a picture of corruption, simply because the Church has various assets. For example, in a drawer in my room are the autographs of most men who walked on the moon. One day they will all be gone, and my collection will be wort a fortune. Would that mean I had 'secret wealth', in the negative connotation implied here of the Church?
