Well lets just say its more of I wouldnt do it than it cant. The X star has a very low bow and is a really heavy boat. Power turns are possible but the water better be glass and you better not let off throttle too fast.
i had a 1987 ski supreme that had a 400 Chrysler engine in it and it could do that easy just people in there master crafts thing there so much better have the time but Malibu is the way to go
@JoshuaSaunders20 I have a 79 supreme awesome boats and great handling The older supremes almost have close to the same hull design as the old mastercrafts.
@elnegroid ignorant comment. every inboard owner knows correct craft and mastercraft are the benchmark for inboard ski boats. don't be a hater and keep your foul-mouthed comments to yourself!
i have a 2005 gekko gts 20, the same one that can be seen in the video "Boat Ferrari Style" (but i have all the stock decals)... its pretty sweet, and i was thinkin of tryin a powerturn sometime, but now all you guys were talkin about all that can go wrong... im not sure if i want to try it anymore lol
my dad used to do this all the time, but he stopped cause it puts way to much strain on the rudder and it is very low to to water so the people in the back would get hit with a HUGE wave of water. if anyone is wondering...i have a 1987(?) malibu skier. it is sick!
thats is excatly what we do in our pro star 190 88'... full thorttle the right as u are turning let off gas its hard tp explain but if u can slalom really good take all the miriors off and do the same thing but with a skier and you can ski around the entire boat its prettty sweeet!!!!!
Yeah we have tried that before!! It resulted in a broken ankle. We have an 89' tri star 190. The 190 (19 foot series) with the chevy 350 throws the best damn wake of any boat out there!
My Dad did thaton accedent one time with our boat, its an 18ft. Crownline with 250hp, and can easilly hit 60 mph, but still when he did that, my head hit the side of the boat, and it fuckin HURT!
Oh its very possible to do it in a jet, because jets need to have the engine engaged in order to steer (unless u have a tracking fin), and if you turn it in and cut the engine, the jet will spin like u would on ice. Inboards are a little harder because they weigh the back down and they stick in the water so much. I did a power turn in the supra once, and was bobbing with the nose underwater for a coupla seconds before she came back down.... scared the shit outa me
He did it because he's in a Prostar, it's primarily a ski boat compared to your X Star, which is a wake boarding boat. Ski boats have shallower drafts, which make them turn much easier.
How do you like the PS 197? I sent off for a brochure today. I'm trying to decide between the x-series, pro-series, or even a couple malibus and nautiques...
I recommend the ProStar 214-there's just nothing wrong with them at all and a lot of things right with them. and in my opinion, they're prettier than the XStar (I'll never get used to them, call me old fashioned)
I've skiied and boarded and cruised and it's done them all perfectly
i fell bad for all the wakeboardrs and skirs that you guys are runein their day with the choppy water i know when i go out i dont want people to do that to me
This was in late march, on a river, so there were no other riders, and there was only one person in the boat and that was the driver. Don't call me an idiot either, jet skiiers are way worse in the middle of a crowded lake in the middle of summer.
i have never heard of anyone bending props or skags from doing this. lol Think about this, the back end of the boat flips around so easy, because it starts to come out of the water (less pressure on the undergear.) If you have a friend or someone who has bent a prop from doing this, they hit something that was submerged under the water.
I used to do these in the late 80's with my Supra Comp. You had to be careful who was with you in the boat because if they didn't really understand what was going to happen, they could slide out of their seat and bump into the ski pylon. That would leave a bruise!
bruised one of my friends legs last week in my nautique! she slid right into the drivers seat. I explained to her to really hold on, told her which direction I was going and exactly when I was going to do it. she still slid out....
i have never heard a story where someone bent their shaft from doing a power turn, they must have hit something from doing it. We have been doing it with boats for years and have never had anything like that happen.
we have an 86 master craft. just last year we had to change the sleeve that the rudder went through the bottom of the boat, because it was leaking... but thats 20 years worth of power turns =P
can't see it. the shaft on a tournament boat is extremely strong. buddy have mine had his boat fall of the trailer on the highway and it didn't bend the shaft. so power turns aren't going to either.
Practically stuffing the bow.The boat's OK,at best.Pail's in comparison to my Crownline 195 SS,5.0 MPI,with High Five prop.

Maybe the turn would not be as sharp. I know another Gekko owner and he stated that he could not get the boat to powerturn.
