I'm pretty sure that the 6 means more than one thing,just as 4 8 15 16 23 42 did :flight 815, boarding at gate 23,kate's safe deposit for the little plane was number 1516 and such
it is probably related to the oceanic 6, as well as to the dharma initiative station number 6 : the orchid,

When you watch it frame-by-frame you see all kinds of stuff, like Jack's Dad, New Dharma Logo, Naomi with a knife in her back, an Charlie(look evil, it's probably the black smoke), an eye (looks like Jacobs but it may be Hurleys!), and that number 6...

6 means the "Oceanic 6" - Jack, Kate, Hurley, Jin, Sun & Sayid. After they are saved, they are famous and known as the "Oceanic 6". It doesn't mean nobody else was saved... these guys are just the most well known ones...
