My Mealy Amazon gets a kick out of this video! He will "bark" and twitter along with it, but I can't seem to get him to say anything other than "hello" in English :-p How did you teach your bird all those songs????

Very Happy your Mealy liked the video. Kuku started talking very early, almost as soon as we took him home. He was quick to learn things he liked, especially songs and sounds. He is pretty picky and only selects what he likes no matter how much we try to teach other things.

Normally we just sing with him until he gets it and then when he wants to sing we participate. He will sing part and we sing part, back and forth. He does a lot of other sounds and has quite a few words and phrases. Hopefully I will get a few more videos up soon.

This bird just cracks me up! And, I've got to say, this is the very first time I've heard a bird sing "The Allelujia Chorus"!!! Whatever you're doing with him, keep it up because he seems like a happy and healthy zon.

kukulkan is amazing! Bravo! It is clear that you've spent a tremendous amount of time with this beautiful and inteligent bird and he's incredibly happy. I keep 5 cockatiels a lovebird and canary. How many cockatiels do you have? I think I can hear one in the background...

Sorry for the slow reply. There is one actual cockatiel in the background, but one of our Caiques mimics the cockatiel cry. I edited out the places where the one Caique screams since its very load, but sadly that means you miss hearing Kuku scream "Puck, stop it!". He knows the other birds names and addresses comments to them. Normally Shut up or stop it.

Who's making the high pitched calling in the backround?

Both of our Caiques will occasionally make the high pitch sound, but the one named Puck right next to Kuku is the main source. I had to edit this a lot to take out as many of the calls as possible, but that was a shame since Kuku will scream back "Puck, Stop it!!!". He knows all the other animals names and will address them personally when annoyed at them. Even told my brother and his kids to "Stop it" last time they came over and ran through the house half insane.

Yes they do! The smell seems to come from around their head area. Some people describe it as musty or malodorous, but I think it's actually very pleasant. Those non-bird people could never understand...Lol

Kuku has a very strong personality, but he is not aggressive at all. He will shy away from a conflict unless really provoked. Normally, he has a very mild and mellow personality, but can be confrontation on a bad day, but even then, he will always go to his mommy. He likes women far better than men and is rather choosy about people. Overall, he is a great little guy and a much beloved family member.

We are also surprised at how well he talks. He has been talking since right after we got him at about 6 months old. Started with songs and moved on from there. When people call on the phone, they think the TV is on and we are watching cartoons, the reality is he starts jabbering as soon as you get on the phone. Its a rather common occurance for him to come up with new words we have never heard him say before (and sometimes we never hear them again).

Sorry no conures, but two Caiques and a Cockatiel. I edited out most of the caiques, but when the get load, he tells them to "Stop It" in a very disgusted voice that mimics mine. Its rather funny. When I get time, I need to find some video with him saying it.

Amazing parrot! Some of mine sing that one song, Old McDonald. Do you have a parrot named Cocoa? Sounds like he is talking to him.  I have a blue fronted Amazon named Cocoa.

Kuku will be three in July, but he has been singing most of these songs since he was a year or so old. My father-in-law took care of the birds for us one year while we were on vaction, and when we came back, he had learned to say "Grandpa's Good Boy" and "are you going to talk to Grandpa", among other things.
