Hi Lisa, thanks so much for sharing this. It reminds me of the Malealea Band in Lesotho that also make their own instruments and yes they've been invited to travelt to the UK when a festival organiser visited Malealea Lodge. So I'm sure the Chipoka band also stand a good chance. I will at least introduce them to Festival Mundial in The Netherlands. And do you know that Waka Waka is a song for Children? My friend who grew up in Columbia, remembered the song from when she grew up there.
Great. Please introduce them to EVERYONE. The only problem is that we filmed this 16 years ago and have no idea what happened to the band. Last seen they were the resident band at Club Nkopola on the shores of Lake Malawi, in Malawi. - Lisa
Glad you like it. When David and I heard Shakira singing the so called World Cup song' we both instantly remembered Chief Chipoka's band. Aren't the symbols in the drum set just classic. Just shows you, you don't need to be rich to make dem fab sounds. Lisa
amazing discovery! you should do the Ry Cooder thing and make them famous in a documentary - did you see Beuna Vista Social Club? Same stor
