This experiment is stupid. Depending on how aerodynamic you are, you would get diffrent results. For example a torpedo would move faster in the syrup than in water, while a man with a parachute would swim slower in syrup than in water.

it's harder to swim in syrup because it takes more energy to push and pull yourself through the syrup other than water......... at first it may be the same, but then fatigue takes it's tool

did you notice when adam breaths in the pool while swimming he lifts his whole right side out of the water. that means he is going slower than average which is very bad for your arm concluding that you need to keep only your face and arm out when breathing

Swimming technique looks like a factor too. That slapping sound indicates a resistance to your hand going in, which seriously cuts out your initial thrust power. What if they used another technique like the butterfly? Or one that keeps your hands in the fluid? Or just better tech?
