John - Fantastic! I love the part that addresses the "you should be thankful you survived it as well as you did" issue. While I know you are thankful for what you have, it doesn't mean you don't get to mourn what you don't have. (Leaving that sentence as is, despite the fact that the double, nay triple, negative is making me twitch!)
