This is based on Wonder Boy in Monster Land, which was originally released for the PC Engine (TurboGrafx-16) and then ported to the Master System. However, the original PC Engine version (which this game is based one) definitely has superior graphics (16-bit) and sound (FM synth) than the Master System version (8-bit graphics, PSG sound).
This is most likely the best conversion I've seen. Too bad they had to replace Shion and his allies and enemies into Bikkuri Man characters. Though Bikkuri Man is a very good anime I still think Sega could've been nice and allowed Hudson to use the Wonder Boy characters since they did allow it for Wonder Boy III: Monster Lair.
Ufcourse it's a spelling error done with purpose:P It should be Gladius but... hey, lets call it Graduis... it would be fun since the best shmup game is called Gradius! Yeaaaah!
This looks and sounds like a Master System game.

Which is where the original name of Konami's shoot'em up was derived from in the first place.
Gladius translates as Gradius.
There's no "L" in Japanese language.
