  • just used this in our panto cinderella :) QP!!!!!!!!!!!

  • This just may be the greatest musical number ever done, certainly in one of the greatest musicals in history. And to say that Fred Astaire surpasses himself throughout is to say just how unimaginably great this movie was.

  • Such a shame she died so young

  • @millers3888 thank you :D

  • Frenamies lol from phineas and Ferb

  • i used to sit and watch this all day xD

  • What musical is this in?

  • @NailHairCheer Easter Parade

  • Greatness!

  • Brilliant, just brilliant.

  • i luv this!!!!

  • We look good in hats, long tails and spats! When we hit the town together, baby we know where its ats! :)

  • Strictly come dancing eat your heart out!

Also very popular in Czechia via its cover version ,,Pěšky jít nám je souzený"-also available in Youtube, with text correspondent to original.

  • My fav song from this great musical, shame their are no true Hollywood legends anymore they had pure class not like actors today who are greedy for the money instead of making quality films like yesteryear.

  • This is a cleaner version :watch?v=C9z9Q9KbJOg&feature=related

  • judy's big shoe :')

  • I really wish it was Ginger there with Fred or anybody else.

I don't know, but I don't really enjoy watching Judy Garland.I can barely hear Fred's voice behind her very high-pitched voice.

  • @OldNoir

You mean her overpowering voice? Yes, Judy Garland tends to have that affect on people. xD

As amazing as Ginger Rogers is, I can't picture her (or anyone else for that matter) doing this in place of Judy.

  • No one does this sort of thing like the Americans. Where are STARS like these today?

Yes, I agree - sheer genius... even to Judy's last flourish of the hat.

  • Proving her sheer genius in 4 minutes and 4 seconds. Watching them walk, dance and sing down the avenue makes our world a better place

  • Always a pleasure this scene ... just love it!

  • I miss these two so much, especially the best dancer in history. Fred Astaire.

  • which musical is this from?

  • @NaturallySweetTM Easter Parade (1948)

  • Czech version by Hana Zagorová and Jíři Korn - youtube.com/watch?v=nIw1HZgG2SI&feature=mfu_in_order&list=UL

  • You guys are SO right when you say you can't take your eyes OFF her... Fred is the GREATEST dancer that's ever lived and here is Judy OUTDOING himm!!! Aaaaahhhh <3 <3 <3

  • @gigicd86 in over-sized shoes, no less

  • the only scene in a fred astaire movie where the scene is stolen from him. by judy<3

  • Has Astaire ever had another dance partner that could make one forget that he was on the screen? What presence Judy Garland had! You can't take your eyes off her!

  • @mobluesman Judy Garland was great, but I wouldn't go so far as to say that she made people forget Fred Astaire was on the screen.

  • @longlivethe80s well, I don't know about the rest of you, but I do!

  • Have to memo rise the whole routine for a show... hard. ;]

  • adorable

  • Absolutely Brilliant.!

    I really cannot say more.

  • Disw23 I have live at Carnegie Hall and I a can not live without it it is on my mp3 player and I have$ 400.00 speakers a piece and its all for Judy and GOD knew what he was doing when he made her....R.I.P.Judy Love Barb....

  • their teeth freak me out!

  • I did this in a community theatre talent show. My partner and I got rousing applause.

  • @Geostrum2 well done :)

  • @Geostrum2 that nust have been fun

  • Fred Astaire & Judy Garland - at their very best! Yes with a little help from Irving Berlin!

  • Comment removed

  • two rare talents. we are previdged to be able to to see such talent. iit may never occur again.....

  • The video and audio quality are much better on the posting below this one (one page back). The one posted by "TheManthatgotaway."

  • Judy is amazing but Fred doing Steppin' Out with my baby, etc. in this film is a remarkable number; Fred is 49 but you'd never know it. One of his best. He moves with the energy and fluidity of a teenager. I hope someone uploads it so you can see what I mean.

  • Upps i mean fred not frank

  • Judy and Frank are awesome!

  • adorable! i LOOOOOVE this number! AND I LOVE JUDY GARLAND!!!!!!!

  • I watch this at least once a week! Better than therapy! :-)

  • "The Vanderbilts have asked us up for teeeeeeeea!"

ARHAHA xD Judy is just precious <3

  • I saw a thing on Judy Garland and a critic mentioned that she was the only dance partner of Fred Astaire and Gene Kelly whom you found yourself watching instead of them. It's really true! I noticed it in clips of Summer Stock, too.

  • judy and fred the perfect match i love them both

  • judy and fred the perfect atch i love them both

  • Two people have no taste. This is classic stuff! Garland and Astaire...true legends!

  • @soulgirl66 LOL! I was thinking the SAME thing. I looked at the top, and I noticed that there were 2 "dislikes". How can ANYBODY, in their right mind, NOT like this? The answer? They're NOT in their right mind. :)

  • Every moment she spent in front of the camera was brilliant. She did everything in her relatively short career - there will NEVER be another like her.

  • To get this mp3 go to audofier doht cohm.

  • Is anyone allarmed (or perhaphs pleased) at how much Hugh Laurie looks like Fred Astair...use you imagination, he could totally nail that peice lol

  • @JanaeAnexaJett Yea i noticed that, i was going to say that he looks like house!

  • This was on pbs last night. I hadn't seen this movie yet and was completely captured by Judy Garland. Ann Miller and Fred Astaire were wonderful but Judy had that aura about her that it takes all you got not just to completely melt and fall in love with her. I love that down to earth personality and she was as good an actress as she was a singer. I'm gonna have to buy this one.

  • ahhh good old Judy :D

  • best song ever!!!!

  • Unbelievably good.

I could vomit when thinking of today's "stars".

Today's whores are not fit to touch their tramp-costumes. How ironic is THAT?

  • @Vengeance509

it only takes 5 years for today's stars to be forgotten, then they will REALLY be wearing tramp costumes :)

  • Glad to see how many people still enjoy this classic. I'm 25 and used to watch this as a child at my grandmas and its now my 7 year old daughters favourite. She knows all the words and even sings fella with an umberella when it's raining out. Which isn't rare here in England lol. x

  • It took me a while to realise it was the background moving and not them!

  • @Inkyminkyzizwoz They walk on a floor that is moving if you look closely;-)

  • @Choefoe actually the background stuff is moving.. i watched it like 100 times before i figured it out.

  • @ambertojoe27 It,s both, you can see the floor moving like they have on airports these days, don,t know how you call that ;-)

  • @ambertojoe27 You can see that better on the dvd, very clear

  • @ambertojoe27 It took you 100 viewing before you figured it out? Oy, quite the brainiac aren't you.

  • Judy steals this from from the great Fred Astaire. I'll bet he didn't mind.

  • @miserystarz so go away and take your negativity with you

  • @jamieh1974 I agree!

  • They really were "A Couple of Swells". Thank goodness for the movies so we always have Fred, Judy, and that wonderful Irving Berlin music.

  • This is as delightful as it gets.

  • bravo bravo

  • Two the greatest performers who ever lived playing against type. Marvelous.

  • I like the part at the end where Judy hints the guy to leave the stage on 3:50

  • My God, today's stripper/slut/whores could not touch these greats. May all "reality" morons be vaporized to death death DEATH by an asteroid.

But these two will live on. Yep.

  • Too bad Judy and Fred didn't do more films together, easter parade was fabulous :)

  • @JansterBanana they we actually supposed to some more films but Judy was having drug problems and would fail to show up to the studio to shoot so MGM let her go.

  • I sing about Astaire, Garland, and others in The Celebrity Song.

  • Awesome vid.

  • 4 minutes of perfection - thanks.

  • Judy catches the eye, but what a mover Astaire is.

  • We gentiles are greatful for Irving Berlin for writing our holiday songs too...;)!

  • Happy Easter! I watch this every year on Easter. Wouldn't be the same if I didn't.

  • I was SO born in the wrong era.

  • I absolutely love judy! and fred too! :)

  • nice vid i wath all freds moives ...................

but i think judys a ginger wannabe

  • @imarunescapenoob5 Are you kidding?!!! Ginger Rogers could never have pulled this off. She doesn't have the self-mocking sense of humor.

  • @Jayee123 Ginger came from comedy before she started couple off with Astaire in dance movies ;-) it gave their movies the comedy it needs, and Fred and Ginger went out before they met again in hollywood so that always gave it that littleextra between them ;-)

  • This number from Easter Parade is so cute! I love Judy's facial expressions!!! :D <3

  • i love this mostly judith she is the best singer ever and believe me i know i have hundreds of her songs she sings wonderfully especially in ol man river its crazy good i know this believe me

  • Its awesome because its IRVING BERLIN too people!

  • @xtopperx YES, you're right and THANK YOU for pointing that out. We must NOT forget the GENIUS that was Irving ,<3 <3 <3

  • I wish I could have seen both of them live they were so beautiful together. Its about one of the cutest performances I have ever seen.

  • i love Judy's black tooth!!!!!!!! xD

  • How could Anyone resist Judy and not absolutely LOVE her!! Such great talent, fun and great charisma! The world is just a sadder place without her. Thank goodness she left us so much to enjoy. She will Always be with us. Love her so much!

  • @dlsw23 hear hear

  • Wonderful! Takes me back to childhood.

  • Judy still rules! The best ever.

  • Every nuance by both performers is perfecto. Judy especially. She just shines.

  • Gene Kelly was cast for this movie but he broke his ankle so the studio got Astaire back from retirement, after this he made many more movies again;-))

  • GET IN THERE!!!!!!!

    These two are fabulous

  • Love this song, my favourite song from "Easter Parade"

  • Great movie. They were amazing together.

  • I love this Garland tune, I used to sing this at the Camelot Hotel in Little Rock back in the day. Thanks for a fond memory.

  • Fantastic!!

  • Garland was bigger than her films, much like Astaire was (though he was so to a lesser extent). She was a tour de force vocalist, dancer, actress, entertainer in multi-media. Her films were enormous box-office hits, yet her talent and stardom transcended them (when she was at her peak, from 1939-1954). A big difference is that Garland superbly transitioned from child star to powerful adult star, playing womanly roles in her musicals. Easter Parade is, indeed, an ideal example of that .

  • Judy clearly has great talent, no doubt one of the greatest performers of the century, and she could sing. But why compare, and with Astaire no less, the man who created the genre of the movie dance musical? At her greatest, I associate her mostly with the girl parts she played. Ginger Rogers with her young women parts, and Katherine Hepburn with her woman and older woman parts. There are exceptions for sure...but these, to me, are their greatest strengths. They're all different. Why compare?

  • Uh, I was just going to say...one barely notices Astaire.

But in the big picture Judy Garland is a much greater star than the great Astaire--deservedly. Funny: he came out of retirement to do this movie specifically for the privilege of getting a chance to work with Judy Garland. She was, indeed, THAT big. And she adored him. He didn't make some massive salary for this flick. She was top-billed and it was one of the five biggest box-office hits of the year...as were most of Judy's flicks.

  • As a lover of BOTH performers... THIS number (growing up) made me NEVER look at Fred (who is my IDOL & "Dance God")... Judy OWNS this number!

    :-)

    :-)

    :-)

  • Astaire would agree;-) He was very shy to be dressed as a bumb, ,he went to Judy,s dressing room with some smears on his face still look like a gentleman ask insecure"it this too much?"Later Judy knocked on his door looked like this even pu ton an other jacket, they had a female jacket for her, she put on a male one that was too large ,she ask him"is this to much?" Astaire got over it and they had a lot of fun. ( this story is on the specail on the dvd;-)

  • @Choefoe

Thanks a lot for that story. It's really nice to know that Hollywood wasn't always filled with immature, impish brats.

  • This is a charming and enjoyable number that hardly taxes the talents of either of these two folks. I'm not sure why so much energy is being spent in this thread comparing the two, especially since one is a male dancer/choreographer/singer/pianist/actor and the other is a female singer/actor They were both great entertainers.

  • Happy 110th birthday Fred

    u rock

  • Amen!

  • Judy just has incredible stage presence. I mean, watch almost any other movie with Fred and he's the one you watch. But here, it's all Judy.

  • What's the title of this movie please?; is it available on DVD?

  • Easter Parade

  • One of my favorite clips of all time!

Judy's a far better performer than Fred. Check her footwork, body movement ang facial expressions to those of Fred's and you'll see what I mean.

  • you just can't take your eyes off Judy. And I love Fred but man Judy's the best performer I've ever seen, no matter what kind of music number she's doing lol.

  • Actually...Fred Astaire is actually more technically accurate if you're going to get picky. Judy moves well but fred's technique is way better. And just so you know, facial expressions don't equal great acting, it's what motivates the expressions. Now, she's got chops and they're both well, but I wouldn't say Judy's a FAR better performer than fred is.

  • Fred is a better technical dancer, but he himself said that " Judy was the greatest entertainer who ever was, and probably who ever will be". She is a much better singer/actress, but they are both legends in their own rights. im a fan of both

  • we're not talking about technique we are talking about performing and stage presence. Those are two different things.

  • Thank God.

Fred and Judy got a chance to dance together.

  • This Is The Best Of MGM...The Great Judy & Fred At Its Ultimate Best...Such Perfection!!!!

  • this is like one of my all time favourite musicals. i think its because of this number i really love it! so funny but very well done at the same time.astaire and garland are the most perfect coupling in showbiz

  • This is one of ALL TIME favorite Astaire moments. He's so cute made up like a bum...the part where they say they can't be cads is PRICELESS!

  • oh that's me and my friend leonie (:

  • what is it about Judy Garland that whenever she shares the stage or screen with someone she outshines them. Even when she does try to tone it down to let her guests shine. Even when I've seen her dance with the greatest dancers like Fred Astaire or Gene Kelly, still SHE catches your eye in the performance. She makes it hard to look at anyone else when she's performing. It's amazing. Just try it! There's just something about her!

  • You are absolutley right---to quote Mia Farrow, "Judy was overflowing with personal magic." Obviously Astaire and Kelly were some the best dancers of the 20th Century, but Judy had that special something---can't think of any other dance partners that upstaged Astaire and Kelly.

  • she has a thing called real tallent ;) I,ve seen intevieuws with her, the woman is sooo funny and lovely and that,s it, if you can make people laugh and forget about themselfs your a givven talent.Fred loved Judy for it

  • have a special on the dvd,Fred had a hard time dress up as a bum,he wlked up to Judys dressing room, still looking as a gentleman with a few smears on his face and asked inseccure"is this too much"Later on Judy apeared too him like this, and said"is THIS too much?'When a beautifull woman could do it.. well he was all in for it and thay had a lot of fun

  • aww that's so cute. Fred is just so elegant and classy he had no idea. Judy was all for this though. She loved this so much she continued to use it in her acts on stage years later.

  • "Easter Parade" is full of great numbers.

Judy had a TV show in 1963. She did A Couple of Swells as a single number. At one point she just stood still and said, "That's Fred's part."

An enormous talent. Too bad she couldn't

enjoy all her achievements. We can be

thankful for all the great MGM musicals.

    Tx 4 the post.

  • 3:51-4:05 is so cute! I like this!

  • This is a fantastic musical. I am trying to see if I can purchase the DVD version or perhaps download. Thanks for posting it in the Youtube and I thoroughly enjoyed it again

  • Check out the kirstin1986 post of this same video. The video quality is outstanding and DVD like and you can really see the chemistry between these two great performers.

  • best number in the movie

  • this was vey good loved it!

  • one of my favourite moments -ever!

  • i got Easter Parade for my b-day and ive been watching it non-stop, thanx for add!!

  • This is the best!!

  • I was watching Easter Parade this weekend and Fred Astaire is fucking amazing.

  • This is too cute and brilliant for words. Two geniusses at work!

  • I love this video so much im doing a duet with someone in a music festival were doing this song so we will try to be as good as they are

  • I dare you not to be smiling by the time this is over. Man I love that movie!

  • My mum and dad did this for their party piece, that reminded me of them doing it, thanks for posting.

  • I love the thing they start at 3:24. The music rising sounds so great on the DVD. :)

  • Judy Garland in past years had said Easter Parade was here favorite film of hers ; Because she has said she had more fun filming this film than others she has made. And she defiantly looks like even in just this one clip that she is having a great time.
