  • @ksa9ht I believe that just about every soul singer (or otherwise) has covered this song--including Al Green. the original was done for the movie "Unchained" in 1955.

  • is this their own song or it belongs to al green ? i've heard this before but i don't know when and who was it .

  • never knew they covered this, well done.

  • i like her voice!!!!!!

  • I LOVE THE SUPREMES! but do you honestly THINK if FB's voice could have been more successful than DR's that BG would have been stupid enough NOT to use it?! DIANA ROSS not only had the most UNIQUE sound of her time (and today), she possessed that tired old cliche in abundance: STAR QUALITY. to THIS day, you can't take your eyes off her when she APPEARS. DR, as a SUPREME, had the IT. she had IT then she has IT NOW! THANK YOU, GOD ALMIGHTY, i lived to see IT all!!!

  • so dreamy.

  • normally i hear rammstein, system of a down and psytrance/goa, but they are also part of my favourite artists (since i heard their version of "mr. postman"). the voice of diana ross is unreachable...

  • MARTY ROBBINS VERSION IS THE BEST ON THIS SONG,BUT SUPREMES VERSION IS GREAT ALSO

  • absolutely beautyful thank you

  • Pretty voices ... beautiful song.

    Works for me.

  • I like Roy Orbinson version the best.

  • If Barry Gordy wasn't sleeping with Diana, the lead would have stayed with Florence Ballard, who had a far stronger voice and range than Diana. R.I.P. Florence - died way too young and in poverty. She was done wrong by Motown and Gordy!

  • MUSICA PARA SIEMPRE

  • not too many can sing like that anymore

  • The rightous brothers are for sure a tuff act to follow but I dont mind hearing new or older versions of this song although the rightous brothers are simply the best at this song.

  • None of The Supremes had enough vocal range for this. None of the intensity is here as it is in the Righteous Brothers'.

  • This was as boring as h---. This has Florence all over this in her light soprano. Diana was cool in some parts but she never got into this like the RBs. Never understood why Berry wasted our time with having her on every song. She was the lead and he had that goal already in mind. Never understood why he had to destroy people to control them.

  • hello, thanks you for invition you video, very good!!

    hug :)

  • Beautiful :D

  • Fabulous song but I prefer the Righteous Brothers or Joni's Chinese Cafe / Unchained Melody. have to agree with Robert.

  • @rendton

i DISAGREE, THE RIGHTEOUS BROTHERS VERSION TOTALLY BETTER.

  • @ROBERTALLENGRIFFETH Aw, is this a bit too musical for you?

  • My God this is beautiful, I thought no version could be as good as Righteous Brothers' version

  • The Supremes make such beautiful music.

  • Not much range. But a decent effort.

  • dayum Diana can sing.. whut a songbird she wus back in d day. And she didnt have to shake her ass to get people to listen to her songs.

  • i was born in 69 so i got to experience the oldies music and as much as i love the music today i love the oldies so much more i sure wish i could go back in time

  • I normally hate all covers of this song but this version truly does it justice. I think it's because she's not trying to mimic the righteous brothers, she did her own version. Her tone is beautiful. Sounds like velvet.

  • @silverskittles50

    Velvet is the word.

    I agree.

  • i wish they still made ongs likev this

  • superbe the supremes.... diana ross... tu nous fais toujours rêver

  • I wonder where the other supremes are now!

  • A classic, truly it is.

  • Todd Duncan sang the original in the film "unchained" in 1955

Hy Zaret wrote the lyrics to the original.

By far the best two version of this song are sung by:

Roy Orbison and Sam Cooke....there is not another singer out there that can even compare to these two men when it comes to this song.

  • who wrote this song anybody, ty

  • @stick935 Music by Alex North ~ Lyrics by Hy Zaret ~ Song was used in a 1955 prison film "Unchained". Instrumental by Les Baxter hit #2 and Al Hibbler's version hit #3 in 1955.

  • @TopazDupree ty, great song, timeless, just like crazy,by patsy,

  • nice (:

    I love it !

  • This is a really good cover

  • Brenda Holloway's version of this song is the best I've heard by a female. Unfortunately Gordy was too busy pushing Ms Ross to become the star of Motown, and allowed some great singers to be wasted. No wonder they left Motown as soon as they could, as did Ms Ross, so she literally crapped on him

  • Amazing!

  • AMAZING VOICES! the Supreme's wasn't just a title.

  • This was such a great group. Thank you, for posting this.

  • Q LINDAS SON Y TIENEN UNA VOZ MUY CÁLIDA

  • ...diana's voice is still very good in 2010...!

  • i never knew the supremes made a version of unchained melody. their sound is so clear and classic. thanks for uploading :)

  • just beautiful!!

  • i x expect it to be this nice ^^

  • No one can beat Bobby Hatfields (Righteous Brothers) live version!!!!

  • this version is one of the best

  • Wow this cut gos back to when i was ten years old. And it still sound good!!

  • beautiful girls!

    nice interpretation

    but see this:

    ... youtube.com/watch?v=aEaEvHpyhgM&feature=related

    He's Aldo Blaga

  • i used to own a version of this song by a guy named... whittier, or widder, maybe. best version ever. i owned it on record. if anyone knows what i'm talking about, and the guy's name, please lemme know.

  • @DJglasgowSon

    Al Hibbler maybe?

he did the .. third version I think?

  • @keithdecent

i'll check that out, thank you!

  • please visit my channel at

    youtube . com / 5hazzam ,

i have sampled this song and made it in to a hiphop beat, track 013 is the one you should listen to it, check it out

  • omg this was an excellent version of unchained melody .... 20 out of 10 here :)

  • this is actualy a good version.unlike elvis,u2, and clay aiken they destoryed unchained melody

  • This is a much better key for Diana than she often sings in.

  • This is good.

  • Cette version est merveilleuse franchement....

This version is different and complete the original and orchestral one perfectly.

Diana's voice always seems to be magical.

  • rap the day the music died for no other reason do i wish there is a heaven to meet these ladies

  • Super cool!!W

  • great song!!!!

  • This was on the album "I Hear A Symphony"...GREAT SONG! GREAT ALBUM!

  • VERY BEAUTIFUL!!

  • I NEVER knew they recourded this song. It sounds GREAT

  • Yes Surpremes! It's one of my favorite songs. Diana is great. I love her voice. It is different than the usual.

  • I really like this song even if its long before my time and I gave it a shot anyway! Even if I am a female.... Jeann

  • All of the many versions of this song are all good. I'm glad most bands played around with it a bit adding a different spin. Surprisingly, i like this version. It's not my fave but i like it. It sounds almost haunting. I still like Hatfiled's (RB's) version the best.

  • Have a listen to Brenda Holloway doing it. I mentioned it on here before. There have been so many versions of this song since the fities, and most are pretty lousy. Bobby Hatfield had just the right voice for it, but credit must also go to Phil Spector as well. That man made some really spectacular records with his arrangements

  • Who? Your parents?

  • Sorry everybody but this one just has to be The Righteous Brothers

  • Very nice job as usual

  • Me gusta esta version ...muy bonito.

  • I've just been listening to Brenda Holloway singing this. Wonderful, and sung by Motowns best female singer. If you can, have a listen.. She knocks the socks off Ms Ross

  • Love this version

  • Remember, Remember, is beautiful and splendore thing.

  • This song is too big for Ms Ross. The woma has no soul in her voice, and never has. She is just a basic pop singer, and Flo had a much better voice, but she wasn't having if off with Berry Gordy, who pushed Ms Ross all the way. Mary hhad the looks though, and still is pretty good for her age now, but her voice was never very strong

  • I agree 100%

  • There's alot of merit in what you say. Berry almost always steered Motown to appeal to Young Americans, which he did very well. Diana had a refined voice, not a gritty soul voice, that's what you need for Las Vegas and movies.

  • @gusandspud Soul can be described as many things & not just in the grity funky sense.Diana voice is soulful & expressive in a refined way, but it may not be the way you like it. Flo use to sing the ballads when they were the no hit Supremes & her stuff did not make a dent in the charts. Diana created the 1st hits & that's why Berry made her lead because she sold, so if that particular audience like Flo's soul music maybe they should have bought it & she would be singing those songs then & now.

  • wonderful voice, though i think that the original is better. she can sing me to sleep anytime

  • good version, but not the best

  • Very nice.

  • aahh! such a pretty voice ^.^

  • Dionne Warwick also did a good job with this song.

  • the best version of this song

  • I love this song !!!!!:):):):)

  • The Supremes all sound heavenly on this... wow...

  • I so Lovvvvvvvvvvve this song. Romantic and soft :) very sensible

  • Sure it's Jackie Edwards? Not Paul Anka?

  • give it a rest oceanbastard666

  • Nice version...

  • the best version of this song ever!

  • @grayngreen8 I agree. This version is the best I have heard. I like the Righteous Brothers, but somehow this has simplicity, beauty & a graceful soul with a haunting effect for me. That's when this song grew on me when I first heard the Supremes sing it. Another version I like very much is by Sam Cooke. He sings with an intense soul without oversinging it. He as well keeps it simple, elegant, and soothing just like Diana.

  • oh wow, what a fab version x Di

  • ace di xxx

  • I have not heard this version of the song since I last played it on the LP I Hear A Syphony - sadly the LP was stolen many years ago - thanks for posting it on here - as good a version as the original in my opinion.

  • Excellent version!!!

  • I agree with Branner that while the song is very good, the recording production is below par. In fact, the entire "I Hear a Symphony" album from which this suffers from sounding too much like the Phil Spector productions (excessive big room reverberation of the instruments). I believe most of the cuts were doing on the West Coast as opposed to the Hitsville studios. The album could definitely use some remastering.

  • Stop being disrespectful to Florence Ballard and Mary Wilson. You're only making yourself look like a moronic jerk.

  • Real dreamy vocals by Mary and Flo. Great version.

  • omg omg omg i love this by them sooo much

  • OMG OMG OMG

I´m waiting for this song soooo long

since I am on youtube I waited that someone posted it

    I LOVE YOU FOR THIS

    5*

    and my favourite ! ! !

  • I've always loved this recording, especially the backup vocals. Thanks so much for posting.

  • I've never cared for the recording quality on this, especially the mic on Ross, or the mix.
