Mike German of ACLU and a former FBI Agent peacefully expose wrongdoers. FBI, CIA, and others have activist and whistleblowers whose legal protections have been weakened by elected officials regardless of their political affiliations.
Organizations and people who preach any form of hate is why world history books are filled information with all forms of injustices that will eternally continue because enough people benefit from this lifestyle.
@steve0281 Why not another group that bring to light only legit problems? Thinking we need one group to do a specific task is very risky. Competition always brings about the best results.
@polevaultrockstr I don't disagree, but the ACLU has the profile and bona fides to carry some weight in that arena. Who else is out there? I wish there was a Libertarian entity of comparable stature.
The state will always be a bigger threat to any free people over some terrorist any day. The state has a monopoly on force, no one else comes close (unless you wish to count the mobsters of the prohibition era which even that is a stretch). Government is not good no matter who is in charge of it (there isnt much of a difference between a statist liberal and a statist conservative).
@MrDarknessandDeath In case you haven't notice thats all who have been in charge of the government. Name any government program that has been actually scaled down to constitutional levels in the last few presidencies.
@chevydriver1123 You've only proved that statists HAVE been in charge of all govt's (except for the US in the old days). "Name any govt program that's been scaled down to constitutional levels" The post office?
"... where the government has a reasonable factual basis to believe that you are doing something wrong and are a threat to the community..." Um... who determines what is wrong? Who determines what is a threat to the community? Progressives think that it is wrong to want to keep all your money and to advocate for small government... they deem you and anyone who thinks like you a threat!... no, it isn't government's job to start investigating people they deem a threat. Government can't be trusted.
I think the three branches of government come and go, but entities such as the FBI and CIA are constant and growing. They, like some such parasitic mold or virus, evolve their power structure to resist anything that could temper it. Their power not only rivals the government, but surpasses and controls it.
JFK knew this and was contemplating dismantling the CIA before he was killed.
The only politician I've heard share these views is a physician from Texas.
Well guess what pal. I have voted 3rd party my entire adult life. I'm disgusted by the way the right wing police state aka "family values" or "evangelicals", have hijacked Libertarianism and the Tea Party. Through repetitive propaganda programmed a new generation of GOP street teamers. It all comes down to taxes, war and the justice system. No to income tax - yes to corporate tax. Equal justice. Al-Qaeda are criminals NOT military enemies. That's why im a progressive. Rush is American Al-Qaeda.
so when ever i search for porn it gets recorded? thats not good :( as for my emails i use aes encryption but who knows if the goverment has broken thew that?
@yinzjagoffs - uhhuh. And what 1940's right wing state propaganda did you get your conditioning from btw? Because it's working marvelously. Enjoy your bizarre hero complex buddy. Meanwhile progressives will keep working for real American issues in spite of the mob resentment and misinformation. Always have.
@hzane Mob resentment??? That's all that democracy is and a democracy is all that progressivism serves. There's more of us than there are of you so you better believe what we want you to or else = .progressivism. As far as things working marvelously, we have never lived in a total free-market society were your body, your mind and your property belong to you and that's the main reason why we need groups like the ACLU to remind us of it.
@yinzjagoffs hang on a tic.. Are you referring to the ACLU as a conservative organization!? If so - uhm okay, what the heck is your definition of progressive anyway? Is it the FOX NEWS political definition..? The mob has always been violently hostile towards change. But it's that exact change that got us out of the jungle, freed from building Pharoah's pyramids, out of the King's land, and off the Lord's plantations. The collective struggle for individual sovereignty continues.
@hzane No the ACLU is not conservative or progressive . It's an organization dedicated to persevering civil rights and that's what libertarians are all about. We just happen to understand that how you choose to spend your money is also a civil right. My definition of progressivism is the authoritarianism of the State against the individual and as long as democracy exist your going have authoritarianism no matter if it's called the jungle, the law of the Pharaoh or rule of the collective.
@hzane The ACLU does good from time to time but I don't think it's always done with integrity. At times I think they support some issues just so they can say "Hey, we're not always about supporting liberal fascism".
Well, I feel the dollar in the hands of the consumer is the best regulator of the free-market and that EPA is too easily manipulated by corporate lobbyists. I realize as a libertarian that I'm in the minority on this one, but I also feel that without a true free-market Global warming is also very possible.
@hzane Progressives have destroyed this country. Woodrow Wilson, FDR and basically every big government president since him have taken more power from the people and given it to themselves because the "experts" can do it better. Progressivism has nothing to do with small government or the sovereignty of the people. Don't be so dense.
I think you could have affiliated yourself with another oversight organization besides the aclu, who wants to take God out of anything American and replace it with islam or communism...would have been more credible in my mind but your words mean nothing to me here since I already knew it before.
@richardcadbury War against the government? That's the only enemy I see. The US doesn't have an enemy. You know why Al Qaeda attacks us? It's because we're in their freakin' land. Pull out and there's no problem.

@JaySee5 That was a mistake. But it doesn't remove our moral duty to defend ourselves against other govts that sponsor terrorism. (Plus the US govt and the govt of Pakistan and Al Qaeda are far from morally equivalent)
@richardcadbury Keyword there: DEFEND. Not attack and occupy. US Gov sends suspected terrorist given no trial or burden of proof to Pakistan for torture. I'd say that's morally equivalent.
@JaySee5 The US has been ATTACKED by Islamic Totalitarianism, against which we should DEFEND ourselves, by ending states that sponsor terrorism.
The 9/11 hijackers didn't spring from their own initiative, they are part of the whole Islamic Totalitarian apparatus, the epicentre of which is the govt of Iran, a govt whose raison d'etre is Islamic Totalitarianism, which has a line item in its budget titled "Terrorism". @richardcadbury HAHA! Like we defended by invading USSR's Stalin and communism? Oh wait... There was that time we invaded Cuba when they had nukes pointed at us! No, that didn't happen. @richardcadbury Furthermore, the Barbary nations had been carrying out piracy against all ships traveling throughout the Mediterranean Sea, not just American ships. That included all European nations, even as far north as Iceland, the majority of which were hardly "free." Hence the Revolutionary War. You should look up the Barbary Wars. Jefferson responded to aggression just as we should. We were attacked, we dealt with it. cont.
@richardcadbury We didn't overthrow their government and establish a democracy.
