  • Picked this up a few days ago, i can only begin to fathom the possibilities with this pedal

  • Thanks for such a detailed video. This will really help me understand my pedal since I a visual person ... I'm awful at trying to read instructions and make sense out of them.

  • I've owned this pedal for a while and I really hate admitting it, but this thing definitely shat all over my tone and volume as soon as I hit the bypass switch. The presets are great and so is everything else, and sometimes it's not as bad if you play around with the blend knob.

On another note... The HOG is a thing of awesomeness.

  • hazarai = white knob of awesomeness.

  • Which is better, the Line 6 DL4 Delay or the Memory Man with Hazari? I'm stuck between the 2. I really like the Memory Man but the DL4 has more features? I like to play more ambient sounding like stuff life As Cities Burns and Circa Survive. I feel like the Memory Man would be the best route but maybe the DL4 could do some more things.

  • @TheFuzzB Dude I've had a DL4 for years, I love it. I recommend getting the dl4 first, then this cause it's much more comprehensive. But once you've got the DL4 down, get this! I'm buying this pedal as soon as I can, I'm sure Colin from Circa would tell you the same! this one will definitely be more experimentally fun.

  • @TheFuzzB i love my dl4 but it gets finicky sometimes. like random glitches especially when i loop il press one button but it will turn a different thing on its really weird :/ i mean ive read a bit about people having similar problems, and i know people who have never had a problem. besides that i love the dl4, but here i am looking at this pedal probably for the same use as you :P haha

  • you know, there's a rule in EHX pedals: if they have six knobs on the top, and the top right one is white, they're awesome pedals!!!

  • This is the most ridiculous pedal. I love it.

  • This is my favorite switch, besides a cry baby wah to go with it

  • They don't mention that you can even cascade the delays in this pedal with a patch cable for even more cool stuff, i.e. mono/L out to R input, and use the R output.

  • Whats better this or the line 6 DL4?

  • yo why are all the pedals i want to buy from your shop sold out?

  • @proctorios Mecause other people want to buy them too and got there before you!

  • 3:38

Is that the Pet Shop Boys' "Heart", or am I hearing things?

  • I've got my SMMw/H now, and love it! My only gripe (and it's not a biggie) is that you can't set it to create dotted 8ths and other tempos that the Boss delays are known for. You can manually tap in a dotted 8th tempo, it's just trickier, and you need a good sense of rhythm. Otherwise, this pedal is magic!

  • Reverse effect + Castles made of sand = Awesome psyadelic riffs

  • now i can play all the mars volta shit ive been listening to

  • Jesus - looks like you need a degree to work this bad boy

  • A hazar is a pig in Yiddish. Hazarai literally means "pig feed". Pig out!

  • Memory Man with Mohammed Karzai

  • crazy pedal

  • who plays the intro song to this video????

  • I'm just a caveman; your effects pedals frighten and confuse me.

  • hey, im trying to decide between this and the tc electronic nova delay. my main influences are bands such as pink floyd and radiohead, and i prefer a warmer , slightly modulated sound and would probably be using the pedal for ambient effects such as reverse delay and volume swells. which would you recommend?

  • @ChetZenor any delay pedal by eletro harmonix and theres another great analog delay pedal pigtronix echolution

  • I think you forgot to mention you can record a loop in any mode by holding the record switch down.

  • If you would, could this pedal and a flanger like an MXR one, emulate the Grail Flerb mode on a cathedral? I think the Memory Man is cooler than the Cathedral (although the Cathredal has the coolest pedal design ever), but I'd only need the Grail Flerb function. The Memory Man seems more useful to me personally, but I really need that Grail Flerb... + Is this pedal (Memory Man) capable of a standard 80's delay for soloing? Thanx in advance!

  • I say THE EDGE!

  • in ehx.com it says that "hazarai" is the preset wheel

  • I've had this pedal for over a year now and still can't believe how many different things you can do with it.

    Love it.

    Peter Montgomery

  • MUST SPEND $200 TO GET PEDAL!!! wait what am i saying Andy u are the devil u make us all want to blow thousands of dollars on these pedals u show us. and its working! dam u

  • the end sounds like- nothing else matters by Metallica

  • fucking awesome, this is my next pedal

  • this pedal is AWESOME

  • i was going to get a vox time machine but then i saw this....is more versitile. i think i might end up only using three or four of its features like i did with my old korg multi effects pedal

  • How does this compare with the deluxe memory boy??

  • @bioken007 This is a digital delay. The Memory Boy is analog.

Both are very good delays and would work well with each other.

  • Wow, I can finally get the cd skipping sound I was looking for , Thanks Andy... LOL just kidding, Andy Rules!!!!

  • great review, i just bought this pedal and this demo gives me lots of ideas :)

  • ANDY FOR EVER!!!

  • this is totally a john frusciante device!

  • @oimeloimel more edge than him

hes a wah wah bitch edge s a delay bitch either they re my all time favourite guitarist

  • @MagicHetero i think he was referring to the reverse delay

  • can you change preset by foot?

  • I've noticed on the "1 sec + Rev" function that you cannot get up to six seconds as advertised. I can't get past 2-3 seconds no matter what setting I use. Bummer. No one on the forums at EHX seems to have any answers either. Any ideas?

  • But can it go into feedback with itself like the old memory man?

  • Man, I've watched like 200 of these videos in the past two days, and I just can not stand his guitar tone any longer. It's just so...cheap sounding.

  • @coooorey what is expensive sounding then?

  • Its an interesting delay effect. I thought the empress vintage superdelay had the best convincing echo sound quality. I do have a Line 6 dl4 its "good" but it isn't as great as the superdelay or time factor and doesn't have as many of the features as this memory man with/ hazairi huckabucka. Just an opinion. I still think the line 6 is good enough and better than other brand delay pedals.

  • This pedal sounds so good. Definitely gonna get me one when I've saved up enough cash.

  • can anyone explain in simple yet encompassing manner, what's the difference between dry and wet signal, and what happens when they are mixed? maybe include some examples that can be found on youtube too.

  • @sususegar idk about other videos, but dry vs wet is the amount of effected signal that plays in relation to clean signal. most delay pedals have some sort of mix or level knob that brings in more or less of the delayed signal.

  • @sususegar dry signal is the unchanged guitar sound. the wet sound is the sound the pedal is making with the guitar.

  • Can you playing the loops without the delay effect?

  • @Stickflazh22 yes you can.

  • memory man deluxe o memory man hazari whos better?

  • @kevin2815 well is really a matter of what you are using it for. The Memory Man has a very warm tone that sits in the back of the mix nicely and is analog. Where as the Hazarai has a bit dryer sound that is more abrupt and is digital but has way more options. Personally i would sacrifice the options for the quality of tone.

  • ive just felt in love

  • I know nothing about modding pedals, but would it be possible to mod this pedal so that the modulation setting produces a pitch vibrato sound?

  • some1 tell me wtf hazarai is?

  • is electro harmonix planning one with an expression pedal.....................?

  • i love this pedal. that being said, the only issue i have with mine, is that sometimes with my amp cranked and my gain up, the modulation is so strong its really hard on my speaker. i have a bad feeling its going to blow my amp one night. any thoughts PGS?

  • I've heard the DL4 has a lot of problems with switches going out. My bass player has one and has been having this problem, of course there are youtube videos that show how to fix this, but it only lasts for so long before they go out again. So DL4 buyers beware!! I've heard nothing but good things about Memory Man... Plus Electro Harmonix seem to go really well with vintage tones if that's what you're going for. Line 6 have some badass effects but are def more digital than stereo vintage...

  • nothing else matters!

  • Is it possible to get reverb and delay together?

  • @uiterniels sure of it, man. It is

  • Arctic Monkeys :O

  • best pedal i've ever bought and i've had a lot. it's so useful. pair it up with a tube zipper and a good compressor and it is heaven.

  • it really is the best pedal i've owned. It's one that seems just like a cool delay with multiple settings when you first buy it, and only gets better. much much better

  • @buzzsaw1003 To me, the Boss DD-20 Giga Delay is the best delay peday pedal on the market.

  • dl4 or this?

  • @Daviocomp: IMHO, DL4. More features.

  • @jezmundberserker

not really, other features perhaps, but not more...

  • @Daviocomp this

  • @Daviocomp dl4 of course.

  • great review, thanks guys

  • If line 6 was a cup, I wouldn't put any water in it.

If you're looking for an entry level effect pedal that doesn't cost much and saves space. Go with line 6.

If you want something that lasts....go with E.H.

    answer your question?

  • can you use an expression pedal with this?

  • not directly

  • Every time I record lots of over dubs the previous ones start getting quieter

  • @arrisfilms correct me if i'm wrong everyone, but i think you just put the repeats on max, then the echoes won't die away

  • invest in a volume pedal. you can control your picking technique more.....what happens is you attack more on the recording than your initial loop so you can hear it better.

play your rhythm or bass track at a good volume. crank your volume down to about 3/4 on your volume pedal.

    OR

Fine tune your picking technique to attack more smoothly and with less volume.

  • I'm going to buy this. BUT, what would make it really sweet is if on max repeats, you can get those spaceship noises by messing with the delay time, can you do that with this or am I going to need to get this and a analog delay, also can you loop with different delay settings? THANKS

  • Memory Man or this? and why?

  • the regular memory man does not have the 30 sec. loop feature or on the 1sec delay + reverse.

I've found a way to use that setting simply as a boost + reverse swith that will feed you a 6 sec reverse slap back of what you just played while you're holding down the tap-tempo toggle.

This pedal is a huge aid in the live setting. you can create all those sweet studio tricks live on stage if you're smart about it.

Memory Man w/ Hazarai ALL THE WAY.

  • deluxe memory man or the Electro Harmonix Memory Man with Hazarai?? what do you guys say?

  • i just got this pedal today and i have played the deluxe, i recon this ones better for stuffing around on :)

  • Comment removed

  • fucking great!

  • +1 this pedal is awesome

  • It's really versitle but so complicated. What if you want to use delay or reverse delay but also want reverb or loop? I much prefer the option of having a good reverb amp/pedal and a seperate delay pedal and a seperate loop. Like the Akai Headrush e2, MCR CC and a Harwire RV-7, then you've got all the options there, to combine how you wish.

  • I know this baby has a billion options, but do you think it would be a good choice for a solid digital delay with tap tempo at a reasonable price?

  • The Evintide TimeFactor is way more complicated!!!! Matt.

  • The video description is so unnecessarily long and so full of spelling and grammar mistakes that it certainly looks as if someone hacked into the ProGuitarshop account and wrote some nonsense ("due to the rare chips this unit uses"? PGS people would never write that...)

  • i fucking love the intro....hahaha and this pedal too

  • This video is better than the instruction manual for this pedal. I just learned so much! Had it for a year and love it by the way.

  • 2:32 what song? sounds a bit like pink floyd

  • Pink Floyd - Money

  • is this analog or digital delay?

  • its digital

  • Digital!

  • "hazarai" apparently means, "all the good stuff"

  • @strabbs1 Hazarai in Yiddish means, "nothing less than everything else."

  • it this one is good or boss dd-3-5-6-7 ? or line 6 delay pedal dm 4

  • is this analog?

  • Really good video, but too many sounds for nothing!

Extreme sounds are never used because its never cutting through the mix. The pedal is a non-sense.

  • Between this, the Cathedral, and the Memory Boy... I think its fair to say that those three in combination would make any board, no matter what else is on it, win.

  • @Chumleh if your comment was a girl i'd ask her to marry me

  • @Chumleh win what?

  • AWESOME love the reverse delay looping that sounds awesome any of you guys know if the Boss DD-20 can do it? Is this really costly?

  • It's pretty much the same price as the DD-20, $214.

  • the DD-20 is around the same price as this thing, and the boss one doesnt have a looper, which is a really great feature.

  • dd-20 has a looper

  • The original standard Memory Man was a heap of shit.

  • i can't choose between this or the akai headrush. cus the akai headrush has a better looper and tape delay, but no reverse delay.

  • I recently got the Hardwire DL-8. It's got all those features, in a much smaller box. I'd suggest checking out PGS' demo of it.

  • except a tap tempo.

  • which one its better the dd20, the dd7, the ibanez analog delay or the dl4 line 6?

    plz answer

    thx

  • does it come with its own power adaptor?

  • yep

  • Can you record a loop using the other effects?

  • yes

  • does this pedal suck your tone? thnkz

  • It's true bypass, if that's what you're asking.

As for the delay tone, it's no comparison to true analog delay as it is a digital delay pedal.

  • sounds like echo song by paul gilbert in the beginning

  • Is this better than EHX Deluxe mm?

  • The deluxe memory man has more of a warm analog sound in my opinion.

  • Depends on what you want. For warm, musical analog delays the Deluxe memory Man is hard to beat. If you want a looper, reverse delay and tap-tempo you gotta go for the Hazarai (between the two).

I already have an analog delay and I want a looper so it's the Hazarai for me. Does that make sense?

  • DMM all the way

  • Why on earth would electro harmonix make a digital memory man? That's like an oxy moron!

  • I'm wondering, when would you ever need to play anything like 6:41-6:59

  • well... Joe Satriani uses that kind of delay in the song "Day At The Beach"

  • i agree. overall really sick pedal though.

  • Lots of effects out there that you don't really need. But it may inspire you. I mean, do you ever really need wahwah or delay?

  • When you feel like being creative

  • if ur like going into a huge 30 minute trippy noise oddessy

  • if u were palying a 5 minute long weird pychedelic noise journey lol if u have no idea what ur doing use this delay

  • the fact that its like $300 less otherwise the Line 6 is better

  • Would someone play a u2 song with this so I can hear if the tone can be similar? I know its not analog but I heard you can get close to edge's stuff.

  • same tht would be good

  • sounds really metallic. is there a way to make it softer and smoother?

  • It's an old demo, made before we made a big equipment overhaul. You can warm up the delay with the Filter knob.

  • this is by far the best pedal in my board.

you can go out and spend your 250 on a digitech but you won't get chorus, loop, reverb, echo AND true-bypass.

Electroharmoix is by far the best effects pedal company of all time period.

If you like this pedal check out the Russian Big Muff.

  • Man, that is weird, i think Electro harmonix is the best too and have this pedal and love it, i also have the Russian Big Muff and it is my 2nd fav pedal next to this delay of course

  • I like BOSS equally, but yes I agee EHX is great

  • man, thats sounds horrible

  • i have a digitech digital delay that i think i'm gonna have to give to my bro ...after i've saved up the 200 to get this...

  • GAS GAS

    GGGAAAAAAAASSSSSS

  • Question....

Would a seasoned muscian prefer the memory man with hazarai, or the Line 6 DL4???

  • both, DL4 on stage becasue it has 4 presets, but deluxe memory man becasue its the best sounding delay imo, but it depends on how much room you have on ya pedal board.

  • sorry for beeing a noob but which is the diference between this one and the deluxe memory man

  • This is digital, while the DMM is analog. This has a lot of features, but the DMM is warmer and more musical to most ears.

  • Although, for a digital pedal, the Haz is remarkable warm. Just throwin that out there.

  • It's worth metioning that the Deluxe is not a looper which kills it for me.

  • What's the tremolo setting? I have one and haven't found this setting yet. I'm looking for the pedal steel effect you are talking about.

  • This is cool and all but how is it different from the standard Memory Man or the Delux? I know it has Hazarai but does it lack anything that the other versions have?

  • this pedal is like a good woman!

Hard to come by, does what it's told and never leaves your side!

  • Well, I've found my next pedal :DD

  • kinda sounded like pink floyd at the start

  • i know. like another brick in the wall dude

  • I have this pedal and ive found some amazing settings i love it

  • the beginning reminds of another brick in the wall/ van halen cathedral

  • no it does not have true bypass

it's got a good quality buffer, which is better than true bypass if you've got a big board, since having a lot of true bypass pedals on your chain can really kill your tone.

  • Does this pedal have true bypass?

  • can you use this pedal with a bass?

  • like every guitar pedal: yes you can.

  • yes WE can

  • What is this, Bob the Builder?

  • sorry, but what is a true bypass?

  • true bypass is when your amp to guitar signal /sound/tone goes through the pedal without being affected be the pedal, giving more of a true tone.

p.s. if you find that helpful subscribe to me, cheers!

  • pitch modulation just makes the guitr sound like its outa tune

but its awesome although i wouldnt spend that much for a toy

  • the gimic-y chorus exagerations are cool...ish. at a cost....

....as a digi-delay (it IS don't believe me just grab a knob and turn)

i would rather have a DD6, or a Loop Station or ANY tap tempo DD

At this price you're 80% of the way to a Pigtronix Rx audio....dude....who settles for second in the $300+ range of pedals? DUH!

the REAL mem man it 10x better in tone and performance.

  • this delay is pretty awesome, but it seems like a baby toy....

  • If babies played with super cool pedals... maybe.

  • Awesome pedal, you are very talented in that you can figure out all the features of a pedal quickly... I spent an hour in my local guitar store and I couldn't do anything, but I have decided I can figure it out.... with a manual.

  • haha the stuff at 2:26 is great!

  • dl4 just died.......

  • They have a nasty reputation of doing that.

  • according to some other EH video Hazarai means "all the bells and whistles"

  • its yiddish for 'everything'..
