Thanks for such a detailed video. This will really help me understand my pedal since I a visual person ... I'm awful at trying to read instructions and make sense out of them.
I've owned this pedal for a while and I really hate admitting it, but this thing definitely shat all over my tone and volume as soon as I hit the bypass switch. The presets are great and so is everything else, and sometimes it's not as bad if you play around with the blend knob.
On another note... The HOG is a thing of awesomeness.
Which is better, the Line 6 DL4 Delay or the Memory Man with Hazari? I'm stuck between the 2. I really like the Memory Man but the DL4 has more features? I like to play more ambient sounding like stuff life As Cities Burns and Circa Survive. I feel like the Memory Man would be the best route but maybe the DL4 could do some more things.
@TheFuzzB Dude I've had a DL4 for years, I love it. I recommend getting the dl4 first, then this cause it's much more comprehensive. But once you've got the DL4 down, get this! I'm buying this pedal as soon as I can, I'm sure Colin from Circa would tell you the same! this one will definitely be more experimentally fun.
@TheFuzzB i love my dl4 but it gets finicky sometimes. like random glitches especially when i loop il press one button but it will turn a different thing on its really weird :/ i mean ive read a bit about people having similar problems, and i know people who have never had a problem. besides that i love the dl4, but here i am looking at this pedal probably for the same use as you :P haha
They don't mention that you can even cascade the delays in this pedal with a patch cable for even more cool stuff, i.e. mono/L out to R input, and use the R output.
I've got my SMMw/H now, and love it! My only gripe (and it's not a biggie) is that you can't set it to create dotted 8ths and other tempos that the Boss delays are known for. You can manually tap in a dotted 8th tempo, it's just trickier, and you need a good sense of rhythm. Otherwise, this pedal is magic!
hey, im trying to decide between this and the tc electronic nova delay. my main influences are bands such as pink floyd and radiohead, and i prefer a warmer , slightly modulated sound and would probably be using the pedal for ambient effects such as reverse delay and volume swells. which would you recommend?
If you would, could this pedal and a flanger like an MXR one, emulate the Grail Flerb mode on a cathedral? I think the Memory Man is cooler than the Cathedral (although the Cathredal has the coolest pedal design ever), but I'd only need the Grail Flerb function. The Memory Man seems more useful to me personally, but I really need that Grail Flerb... + Is this pedal (Memory Man) capable of a standard 80's delay for soloing? Thanx in advance!
MUST SPEND $200 TO GET PEDAL!!! wait what am i saying Andy u are the devil u make us all want to blow thousands of dollars on these pedals u show us. and its working! dam u
i was going to get a vox time machine but then i saw this....is more versitile. i think i might end up only using three or four of its features like i did with my old korg multi effects pedal
I've noticed on the "1 sec + Rev" function that you cannot get up to six seconds as advertised. I can't get past 2-3 seconds no matter what setting I use. Bummer. No one on the forums at EHX seems to have any answers either. Any ideas?
Its an interesting delay effect. I thought the empress vintage superdelay had the best convincing echo sound quality. I do have a Line 6 dl4 its "good" but it isn't as great as the superdelay or time factor and doesn't have as many of the features as this memory man with/ hazairi huckabucka. Just an opinion. I still think the line 6 is good enough and better than other brand delay pedals.
can anyone explain in simple yet encompassing manner, what's the difference between dry and wet signal, and what happens when they are mixed? maybe include some examples that can be found on youtube too.
@sususegar idk about other videos, but dry vs wet is the amount of effected signal that plays in relation to clean signal. most delay pedals have some sort of mix or level knob that brings in more or less of the delayed signal.
@kevin2815 well is really a matter of what you are using it for. The Memory Man has a very warm tone that sits in the back of the mix nicely and is analog. Where as the Hazarai has a bit dryer sound that is more abrupt and is digital but has way more options. Personally i would sacrifice the options for the quality of tone.
i love this pedal. that being said, the only issue i have with mine, is that sometimes with my amp cranked and my gain up, the modulation is so strong its really hard on my speaker. i have a bad feeling its going to blow my amp one night. any thoughts PGS?
I've heard the DL4 has a lot of problems with switches going out. My bass player has one and has been having this problem, of course there are youtube videos that show how to fix this, but it only lasts for so long before they go out again. So DL4 buyers beware!! I've heard nothing but good things about Memory Man... Plus Electro Harmonix seem to go really well with vintage tones if that's what you're going for. Line 6 have some badass effects but are def more digital than stereo vintage...
it really is the best pedal i've owned. It's one that seems just like a cool delay with multiple settings when you first buy it, and only gets better. much much better
invest in a volume pedal. you can control your picking technique more.....what happens is you attack more on the recording than your initial loop so you can hear it better.
play your rhythm or bass track at a good volume. crank your volume down to about 3/4 on your volume pedal.
OR
Fine tune your picking technique to attack more smoothly and with less volume.
I'm going to buy this. BUT, what would make it really sweet is if on max repeats, you can get those spaceship noises by messing with the delay time, can you do that with this or am I going to need to get this and a analog delay, also can you loop with different delay settings? THANKS
the regular memory man does not have the 30 sec. loop feature or on the 1sec delay + reverse.
I've found a way to use that setting simply as a boost + reverse swith that will feed you a 6 sec reverse slap back of what you just played while you're holding down the tap-tempo toggle.
This pedal is a huge aid in the live setting. you can create all those sweet studio tricks live on stage if you're smart about it.
It's really versitle but so complicated. What if you want to use delay or reverse delay but also want reverb or loop? I much prefer the option of having a good reverb amp/pedal and a seperate delay pedal and a seperate loop. Like the Akai Headrush e2, MCR CC and a Harwire RV-7, then you've got all the options there, to combine how you wish.
The video description is so unnecessarily long and so full of spelling and grammar mistakes that it certainly looks as if someone hacked into the ProGuitarshop account and wrote some nonsense ("due to the rare chips this unit uses"? PGS people would never write that...)
Between this, the Cathedral, and the Memory Boy... I think its fair to say that those three in combination would make any board, no matter what else is on it, win.
Depends on what you want. For warm, musical analog delays the Deluxe memory Man is hard to beat. If you want a looper, reverse delay and tap-tempo you gotta go for the Hazarai (between the two).
I already have an analog delay and I want a looper so it's the Hazarai for me. Does that make sense?
Man, that is weird, i think Electro harmonix is the best too and have this pedal and love it, i also have the Russian Big Muff and it is my 2nd fav pedal next to this delay of course
both, DL4 on stage becasue it has 4 presets, but deluxe memory man becasue its the best sounding delay imo, but it depends on how much room you have on ya pedal board.
This is cool and all but how is it different from the standard Memory Man or the Delux? I know it has Hazarai but does it lack anything that the other versions have?
it's got a good quality buffer, which is better than true bypass if you've got a big board, since having a lot of true bypass pedals on your chain can really kill your tone.
Awesome pedal, you are very talented in that you can figure out all the features of a pedal quickly... I spent an hour in my local guitar store and I couldn't do anything, but I have decided I can figure it out.... with a manual.
Picked this up a few days ago, i can only begin to fathom the possibilities with this pedal

Hard to come by, does what it's told and never leaves your side!

no it does not have true bypass
it's got a good quality buffer, which is better than true bypass if you've got a big board, since having a lot of true bypass pedals on your chain can really kill your tone.

Does this pedal have true bypass?

sorry, but what is a true bypass?

true bypass is when your amp to guitar signal /sound/tone goes through the pedal without being affected be the pedal, giving more of a true tone.
p.s. if you find that helpful subscribe to me, cheers!

the gimic-y chorus exagerations are cool...ish. at a cost....
....as a digi-delay (it IS don't believe me just grab a knob and turn)
i would rather have a DD6, or a Loop Station or ANY tap tempo DD
At this price you're 80% of the way to a Pigtronix Rx audio....dude....who settles for second in the $300+ range of pedals? DUH!
the REAL mem man it 10x better in tone and performance.

this delay is pretty awesome, but it seems like a baby toy....

If babies played with super cool pedals... maybe.

Awesome pedal, you are very talented in that you can figure out all the features of a pedal quickly... I spent an hour in my local guitar store and I couldn't do anything, but I have decided I can figure it out.... with a manual.
