Yet the following principles apply to copper as well: Laser ablation effectively removes the corrosion products from the surface and leaves a passive oxidized layer on the surface which inhibits further corrosion. This eagle was given a protective microcrystalline wax coating that prevents further oxidation. As long as the protective coating remains intact, the sculpture will not corrode. Well maintained bronzes are known to be stable for decades.
