  • When Are you people going to get it through your thick skulls?!!! NIN did not write this song it was Johnny Cash who wrote it. Nine Inch Nails stole this song from Johnny Cash and then tried to make it look like Cash's version was the cover, only because Cash had never recorded it until 2003. Please join me in Boycotting Trent Reznor and his dirty version of Hurt. For anyone who supports this cause, there is a following on my channel where I provide instructions on how.

  • omg i cant believe how much game graphics have progresed ,i still remember plaing the frst 2d square prince of persia incredible

  • It pisses me off how people debate about whos version is better!! does it matter?? the song is incredible and both cash and reznor have poured their heart into it, so feel the music, and feel the message they are conveying, or go and listen to something else.

  • word

  • @Gutterfish12 Agreed,,,,but Nine Inch Nails' version is better ;).

  • I'm pretty hardcore NIN fan, and I still think Cash's version is better, in a way.

Very different versions of the same song, at least for me, but this one will always remind me...

  • After listening to Johnny Cash's version a few times I have to say it's very good too. I hadn't watched the video yet, but when I did I was very touched.

So: Johnny Cash's version is better if you watch the video. But listening, I would prefer NIN.

  • I like the emotions that Reznor puts in as he sings.

  • Personally I think they are both good. I hear different emotions in different singers voices as they sing this song. Like Trent I hear the pain, regret, loathing, but I also hear hope and determinations for change. Cash's version all I can hear is the pain and regret. they are both good just different from one another.

  • johnny cash's version is way better.

  • nin is the original. cash's is the cover

  • I SAID THAT

  • Ah, I love the game and the song. <3 Perfect combination. And hey, Johnny's version is not good. Trent Reznor's (<3) version is a lot better because:

    1. He wrote the song, he knows what he's singing about.

    2. He sings with feelings.

    3. He's hawt.. Tehehe. (a)

    I love Nine Inch Nails.

    I love Trent Reznor.

    I love Hurt.

  • 1. Does that mean if i wrote a sad song would I sound better at singing it than Trent Reznor. (I think not)

    2. He sings like he about to have a Orgasm.

    3. We are talking about singing here not Americas next top model ffs.

My opinion cash version way better!

  • 1. your bullshit

    2. sing with feelings? nobody does that!

    3. your shallow.. tehehe

  • I loved Johnny's version a lot better, it had really many emotions.. maybe too many. Made me burst into tears.

  • Agreed. Johnny sounds more... pained when singing.

  • well johny's is way more meaningful but i like this one better

  • Why is it more meaningful? Cash was nearing death, but Reznor actually wrote these lyrics during a time of immense depression. At least Cash had a great life behind him and it was just his time. Reznor hated his life and this song sums up how he was feeling around those times.

I think this version is more meaningful and much more emotional.

  • @Meteddica Cash had as many if not more bad times as Trent and Trent his DAMN self now considers this a Johnny Cash song. If the guy who wrote it thinks Johnny's is better, that should be good enough.

  • @Purrrple But I'm just arguing a point that people shouldn't constantly debunk the original because this one is "more meaningful". To me personally, the original is more meaningful because Trent actually wrote those lyrics, and it has an eerie, lonely feel to it. Trent suffers from the same condition as me too, which adds a whole world of emotion to the song. I like both versions, I just don't think there's anything wrong with thinking the original means a lot more.

  • @Meteddica This is true, but your wording DID come across as dismissive of Johnny's version and that's not fair either. One should be able to defend one without seeming to dismiss the other.

  • johnnys isnt better.

just people that like country more then rock say so.

pure rockers like nine's better =p

  • duh. All you say is logical... Let people have their own taste for music, ok?

  • Idk, I think both are great. Each has its own feeling.

  • I absolutely hate country and I still think johnny's is better

  • Actually dude, Im a rocker for life but for some odd reason I like Cash's version more. Trent Reznor even said its a really good cover.

  • love this song and good job on the video thanks!!!

  • A well done video, but this song has far deeper meaning than any video game could possibly portray. This game depicts fictional characters, this song was written by a real man, with real feelings and emotions.

  • You have no idea what video games are capable of. They are written by real men, with real feelings and real emotions, to. And with the realism capable in games, as well as voice acting, they can tell a story as well as a song can.

  • But this is, in no way, 'degrading' the song. Instead, it is a fan showing their appreciation of the song by extending it into another form of art--a music video. There is nothing degrading in that. So what if the events in the game are fiction? The games and the song really do go well together. Clearly, you have never played the games, or you'd understand that. Having played all three of the Sands of Time trilogy, I can tell you this.

  • Actually I enjoyed reading that one. Usually these comment-conversation things are just vicious, but that was a nice intelligent conversation from both parties. I give you both a 10/10.

  • why thank you.

  • "Some are based on actual events, but are fictionalized to make it more interesting... This song is not fiction and degrading it... "

Do you believe that also goes the same for books as well, when an author uses complex metaphors or symbolism?

  • Yes and No. Depends on the circumstance. The same can be said about movies and TV shows as well.

In a lot respects, a lot of music is total garbage too. It's mediocre entertainment at best. Too many musicians sell their soul when they get mainstream recognition. Case in point: AFI

  • I'm glad I don't have to sell anything to you. :)

    Do you dislike satires?

  • I disagree on the AFI comment. I think they just expanded their sound. It adapts gradually over each record, rather than just jumping from say Black Sails right through to Decemberunderground.

I think the best example of selling out is Lostprophets. Look at the jump they took from Fake Sound to Start Something. Shame.

  • Johnny Cash's Version of this song is so much better, but the vid u did for it was cool

  • I love the hell outta this game, great video and awesome choice of song! 5/5 stars!

  • This song is amazing, good job on the vid man 5/5

  • Well done. Nice vid&great song.
