best quote I ahve EVER heard. a parrot, a perpetual three year old, running around with a can opener in the front of his/her face. HA HA AH ABSOLUTELY spot on. *****
Humans need to really THINK before doing anything - we are a race of destruction whether its animals, birds, people, environment - THINK FIRST! Stop going around your busy lifestyles making money and never thinking for anyone or anything else. These parrots are beautiful - I have an Amazon - they are a lot of work and noisy but very rewarding. Don't buy and pay hundreds of pounds to these money making schemers. Adopt a homeless parrot. There are so many unfortunately. Start caring.
@wildlifeguardian Peaches has been doing FULL TIME nesting activities. I nearly fill her house with apple tree branches which she turns into saw dust. Now during New Moon, her hormones are surging as well. Albert has just discovered CHEWING. card board, wood, but not furniture as yet. ha ha ha
All our Parrots, (Baby&Piggy-male Quaker Parrots); Mischka&Frieda (female Quaker parrots), Albert (Male white cockatoo), and Peaches (Salmon Crested Cockatoo female) are rescued. I support Parrot acquisition by RESCUE ONLY. GOd knows that there are FAR too many Parrots, waiting and just trying to survive harsh conditions in need of RESCUE. thanks for uploading this video. Very good video, and a necessary info site for those considering parrot ownership. Guess I will stick to parakeets until I retire and get to stay home all day!
Exactly, that would be a fear that I would have having any pet as I reach the end of my life.....who will take care of my pets....and the way that I do.
This video is fantastic. I wish there was more media broadcasts like this to alert people as to what they are to expect in the terms of care, etc., when purchasing a parrot. The "wild" green parrots in this video reminds me of the documentary "parrots of telegraph hill" several years ago....the clip in this video may be from that area in San Fransciso anyway.
Every time I see something like this about parrots it reminds me of the Senegal parrot I gave away about 10 years ago. I absolutely loved that bird and had had him for about five years. But I realized that it was in his best interests since I lived alone and was away from home as many as 12 hours most days.
Having lived with an Umbrella Cockatoo for a short while, I can also vouch for the part about birds driving you crazy.
Thank you for posting this excellent video. This helps explain my menagerie to those that question my sanity. Don't you just love the part about a three year old with a can opener on it's face. :>) I'll keep this handy for anyone that tells me they want to buy a bird.
This is an excellent video! There needs to be so many more reports like these. Thanks for posting this report because this kind of education is so desperately needed.
OH, that EVERYONE who contemplates parrot ownership could see this video! I moved into a new home, and had a bird room put in, just for their night cages, and when we are not home...otherwise they are out and with us, on stands. My life revolves around their care and their companionship. It is a joy and it is a heavy load to bear all at the same time. I wish people would have to have a license to own parrots....because nobody knows how much work it is til the bird comes home! Bless you!!
You are SOOOO right, Miss Pickeltoes! People don't have a clue of what parrot ownership is like/or will be like until the bird is home.
I, like you, aggree that it is indeed a heavy load, very heavy, to care for our parrots, however, there's NO WAY I'll ever part with ANY of mine....or any of the other species of animals we have for that matter. I just wish that others would do the same type of research I did BEFORE taking on the YEARS of responsibilities
Indeed. I will never rehome my gang(currently 1 U2, 1 Molly, 1 African grey,a green cheeked conure, an Indian Ringneck, and a Cockatiel) but I have turned down at least 3 offers of free birds in the past yr. One was a U2 female. I know my limits! LOLOL....As it is, I have not had a proper vacation in 12 yrs! I have made provisions for them in my will, as they will probably out live me.
Yup, knowing the limits is crucial. I too, cannot take on anymore birds. Another reptile or dog would be possible but definitely not another parrot of any size.
I schedule my WHOLE life, including my work schedule and weekend outings/activities around our birds so I can relate to what you mean about not having a 'proper' vacation....LOL!
And don't get me started as to how much time I spend in the kitchen cooking all the various foods I make for these li'l monsters each and every day ;-)

@TravellerFellow:
Are Albert and Peaches getting on your nerves a bit, too?
Nana is trying my patience...but what can you do but love 'em to pieces...sigh...

And then there is the problem that they could outlive you...I worry about that every day...the big parrots just weren't meant to be pets...sigh...
