  • There are 23 idiots to have watched this.

  • Very very original...too funny...

  • so meta

  • INCEPTION!!!

  • Obviously your elderly grandmother is the problem cause THAT'S WHAT THIS WEEK'S SHOW IS ABOUT!

  • Sketception

  • I love this show, especially this sketch. Check out my channel and let me know if any of my sketches are worthy of Mr. Show fan approval

  • @drowningfishpro Nope. Looked through them and they met neither my expectations or approval.

  • good bit.

  • Is this guy related to Ted the lawyer from Scrubs? Twins maybe?

  • Just a few weeks ago his head was covered in hair.

  • that ending is just brilliant

  • Pure genius..........................so funny

  • Anytime I see that man, it reminds me of "Small Soldiers".

  • Genius

  • 22 people were watching last week's sketch.

  • We need to go deeper.

  • crime in the streets->racism->pet care->elderly->cooking

  • I am John Blackstar.

  • Notice he's balding and looking more and more rough with each new episode

  • @jamac123456 lol yea week by week I noticed that

  • @jamac123456 detective dipshit

  • I love that clearly Ken Doral loses it at the same point each time in each show (except the first). :)

  • I love my brother in anything he does. his touch is golden.

  • heaheheaahehea

  • 3:06 Yo Dawg...heard you like watching TV...

  • It's simple: EPISODE ONE: Crime in the Streets, TWO: Racism, THREE: Pet Care, FOUR: The Elderly, FIVE: Cooking, SIX: Rock Lyrics. The show is taped a week in advance. The first show got no calls. When the second show was taped, the first show was airing so people called about Crime in the Streets, but he was shooting the racism show, and so on.....it's the funniest sketch I've ever seen on television.

  • Written by Dino Stamatopoulos, AKA Star Burns.

  • And that's why you Air live..

  • sweet sweet Gerald...

  • This always makes me laugh to the point of crying. EVERY TIME.

  • I never get tired of this :-D

  • ROFL the dog jumps out of the seat when he starts yelling.

  • This is transcendent comedy.

  • 21 peole called about racism

  • This might be the greatest contribution to mankind

  • The callers are as follows:

    1. Tom Kinney

    2. Paul F. Thompkins

    3. Bob Odenkirk

  • Like my first love, Kids in the Hall, these guys aren't just brilliant writers, they're really good actors too. The sketch is hilarious but at the same time you really feel poor David's frustration. Like the Audition, this sketch is one where you slowly realize how brilliant it is. A pre-taped call in show? Whatever made them think they could do something with that?

  • lol I still love this skit after all these years.

  • Brilliant!

  • This is actually a good show sometimes. its on late on thursdays where i live.

  • He shouldn't be happy about someone callling to talk about their grandma. The show that's airing is about the elderly, but their taping the show about cooking. He wants people to call in with cooking topics! Why don't people just get that? ;)

  • @fotophotographer No...the show that's airing is about Pet Care. The first TV pulled is a live feed. They are taping the show about The Elderly, not cooking. The Cooking show is getting taped next week. Next week would be the time to call about Cooking, which is the same day that the Elderly show is airing, when I'm sure he'll have to pull out the TV again. The week after, they will tape the Rock Lyrics show, which is the day the Cooking show airs.

  • He shouldn't be taping the show in advance, it's really confusing for the viewers. The show's producers must be sooooo dumb. Even if the viewers understood what was going on, they wouldn't be able to keep up with the conversation because all they can see is last week's show. Also, they could have edited all the outtakes and breakdowns because it doesn't air until a week after recording. It's so sad it's almost funny.

  • @chrisdean11 its so sad its almost funny that you thought this was real. if you're just playing then props.

  • I'm dying!!!!!!!! At 3:10 I absolutely lose it. Genius comedy.

  • I'm comfused...somebody break this down for me.

  • I like that he doesn't even realise how stupid the idea of pre taped call in show is in the first place.

  • @stabbeyroad Yeah... kinda the whole point of the sketch. Nice.

  • The interviewee was a black guy when the topic was crime in the streets. :D

  • i think this is my favourite mr show sketch. might even be my favourite david cross thing, period.

  • In Bob Odenkirk's words, he is violently bald.

  • Genius

  • Lewis Black?

  • Is it just me or is this the ultimate stoner show?

  • @fsmorel123 It's just you. This is the ultimate show for someone that appreciates great writing and extremely thought out humor.

  • such a genius sketch.

  • I wish I could thumps up this one million times

  • WoW! that TV gag at the end was beyond amazing. I haven't laughed that hard in a while.

  • lol im on shrooms and this is the funniest thing ive ever seen

  • Oh, sweet Gerald!

  • funny how he losses more hair each show and now has taken up smoking haha

  • Okay, that's boo boo number one, hopefully that will be our last. okay, if you wanted to talk about pet care, you should have called 2 weeks ago when our show on racism was airing, okay, i'm doing a show on the elderly right now, which of course means, for you people watching, call about cooking. .... simple enough

  • This is like SNL 25-30 years ago.

  • Pre-taped call in shows do exist. They work pretty well actually.

  • inception ... whoh

  • This just makes me want to actually try to do a week-delayed call-in talk show. Because I'm insane, and it seems like a mad challenge.

  • I love watching this over and over, sometimes laughing harder later than I did the first time! For example, this probably the 15th time I've seen this and just noticed his subtle pause into a whimper, knowing the insanity that will follow, at 0:12. So brilliant!

  • I love how he seems to be hyper-ventilating throughout the sketch.

  • I like how the guest on the "racism" show is Bob looking like some snooty white liberal type, and how the guest on the "pet care" show is a dog!

  • Anyone who says that it would be correct for callers to be calling in about the "cooking show" obviously don't completely understand this skit.

The elderly show won't air for another week; it is only being taped at the present time in this skit, which means that the cooking show won't even air for another two weeks, which means that callers should be calling in about the cooking show in one week when it is being taped, which will be the same time that the elderly show is airing. Get it?

  • I still don't understand how the show works. I would definitely be calling about the wrong topic XD

  • This is almost too good.

  • This is pure genius. Cross is just brilliant.

  • David....Your a genius!

  • Hahahahahaha! This is one of the best skits I have ever seen. No surprise it's by DAVID CROSS :-)

  • @spectrelives It's actually by Dino Stamatopoulos. :]

  • AdolfsTeste youve got to be joking. This is a classic Im still trying to work out if its possible to have a pre taped show! The sketch show had its moments but wasnt in the same league as this.

  • @AdolfsTeste dude, he blah blah, etc some random words profanity. no longer will derp da derp derp stupid vulgar inane. Trust me.

  • lost all his hair in like 4 weeks lol

  • hahahaha brilliant. he's such a fine actor, haha :D

  • Give me that old guy. I want to unwrap him.

  • i love how every previous episode he has more hair lololol

  • Transcribe audio.

  • to this day im still confused.

  • I love the way his hair just goes.

  • @gavbag1234 I don't know how many times I've watched this and only *just* noticed that myself. :D

  • David's hair FTW

  • It never fails me to crack me up when they show that his "guest" for the pet care show is a dog.

  • No, sir. Obviously, you're elderly grandmother is the problem because that's what this week's show is about!

  • The Convoluted Network.

  • @indigodvsk Shit is pure genius I must say.

  • I've seen this like four times and it;s still funny.

  • This sketch is classic. Bob and David are comic geniuses, wish this show was still around...

  • let's...think before we....

  • lmfao

  • it's awesome how he loses not only his temper but his hair gradually every week

  • HAHAH he's been pulling his hair out

  • I saw this last week

  • @MrDaveggg Fantastic comment.

  • Chicken pot chicken pot chicken pot pieeeeee.

  • The ending is some next-level stuff...

  • the premise alone is pure genius but David knocked this one out of the park.

  • @wyattdawg All the more amazing because, as is mentioned on the commentary for this, he did it without cue cards.

  • @wyattdawg On the commentaries they said that te did it all from memory, without cue cards.

Awesome. I lvoe Bob An dDavid

  • his hair gets progessively more bald!!

  • @andykosec haha Yes. Isn't it awesome?

  • @andykosec technically, it's his head, and it gets progressively less bald as the clip plays.

  • @andykosec you did it! you got the joke!

  • @andykosec actually he's regressively getting more hair.

  • @andykosec that's the joke

  • @coffeetablesex no, but it is apart of the joke; but at that a small part

  • I agree. One of the All time Bests Ever!!

  • Hahahaahah damn!! IDIOTS!!! LOL......i watch this all the time and it still is one of the best sketches I have ever seen, pure genius.

  • That was hilarious.

  • I hope Cross and Odenkirk read these comments because they basically prove exactly what the sketch is about. People are generally dumb.

  • Comment removed

  • That's David.

  • the premise is fucking genius!

  • I'm watching this and thinking 'this isn't very funny'...then i see the end...LOL!

  • Absolutely brilliant bit, not that I'd expect anything less from the greatest American sketch show ever. The climax of the skit, with him pulling one tv out after another, while being just a little less crazed each preceding week, is amazing.

  • Huh? Mr. Show was an HBO show. A lot of the writing was done at the HBO Workspace in California. Filming was done in LA, at a nightclub and at KTLA.

I think you're thinking of Kids in the Hall or SCTV or something. Great shows from Canada. Mr. Show was not Canadian however.

  • So, Bob or David?

  • yea, let me clarify this a little for the confused ones...

when the show is being taped, it is not on the air.

one would call in, not necessarily watching tv, and have a conversation with cross's character over the phone.

the next week, viewers would see and hear

the taped episode with the phone conversation.

  • Absolutely brilliant writting!!!!....!! I wonder how many people really get it?? lol

  • word.

  • Did u guys notice he had more hair evry time he pulled the tv over. lol

  • F*ckin awesome idea for a skit!!

    F*ckin hilarious.

    Thanks bigraded!

  • ken doral lol

  • it takes serious skillz to make this great of a sketch out of a premise which doesnt really make any sense

  • such genius

  • Great sketch, blown by the fact that he thought the caller talking about grandma had got it right. He should have been mad with that caller for not talking about *cooking*.

  • @jjdecani No, he shouldn´t have gotten mad, as the callers are supposed to call in about the elderly. As he is recording, the show on pet care is airing. The show about cooking isn´t going to air until a week after the show about the elderly, which will air a week after the show about pet care.

  • no that guy had it right, the elderly show was already taped and is airing now, that means that all the calls you see during the skit were recorded last week, the show about cooking won't air until the following week so if you call in now . . . forget it

  • This is one of the best comedy sketches ever made. It's a damn shame the show only ran 4 seasons.

  • I love how there are people leaving comments here who don't get it.

  • I know! It kind of gives new life to this sketch when *I* can also scream "IDIOTS!!!" :)

  • Pure genius..just pure genius!!! one of the funniest shows ever!!

  • Because, it's pre-taped. When the elderly show aired they should then be calling about cooking.

How dumb do you have to be to not get this? lol

  • No, no, they WERE supposed to be taking calls about the elderly in that show. The people watching this episode at the time of airing should be calling in about cooking, but it wouldn't be aired it would be recorded for the following week's broadcast which IS about cooking.

Yikes, this thing is difficult to discuss without getting REALLY confused! Lol.

    .x.Sess.x.

  • Because they were supposed to call in about cooking when they were WATCHING the show about the elderly, not when it was being taped.

You see, this is a sketch about a pre-taped call-in show.

  • brilliant

  • Mr. Show was fucking amazing. Some purely genius shit right there.

  • Hahaha! I love how he's bald at the start but has LOADS of hair on the first airing! :)

  • genius

  • Sweet Gerald

  • He lost hair with each passing week.

  • I have never laughed so hard at a youtube video.

  • hilarious, brilliant, best sketch comedy show ever

  • I love Dave's deliver around 2:16.

  • That was so funny. a very clever idea.

I've never heard of this show before as I'm British but I will be trying to find a lot more of it after this.

  • I don't know that much about this show but I tell you, these skits are so funny they make Saturday Night Live look like a funeral. This is, like you said, a very original idea!

  • It aired on HBO in the late 90s and to those who know it, it's one of the best sketch comedy shows of all time... after Monty Python's Flying Circus and possibly The Kids in the Hall.

  • hell ya. i used to tape this on vhs. the way they blend the sketches together is genius. and the sketches are clever and hilarious.....i like the audition and the 1 with the wizard and heavens chimney oh ya 24...so many

  • Genius!!!

  • such an awesome idea

  • fav. of mine.

  • As he goes back he has more hair...lauged so hard at this....one of the best I've seen. Go David!

  • this is so goddamn genius I can't even handle it

  • Flipping awesome. I was crying with laughter by the end.

  • PLEASE for the LOVE OF GOD stop calling about racism!

  • I was waiting for them to talk about their first show.

  • it all builds up until the ending! definitely one of their best sketch

  • This is the ONE, my all-time favourite sketch! GENIUS

  • Absolutely! This is so twisted, how much of a genius do you have to be to come up with a sketch like this? It's great!
