  • This is giving me OB rotation PTSD. We had ONE male OB resident on my rotation at SF General Hospital back in the 90's when I was a med student. Ironically, he was kindof a dick.

  • There is nothing more exciting than the rush to save a baby's life or not knowing who is coming in the door and in what condition. Also you develop strong, lasting relationships with your patients, and even multiple generations of patients. All this while also being able to work in the operating room as well. I used to work construction (manly, yes) and similarly I will always be working with my hands in Ob. My point: M or F, we are drs and will sacrifice for our patients and save lives

  • @Everyone As a male who just graduated medical school and is going into ObGyn, I figured I should give my 2 cents. After reading all these comments, I can agree with a few things. The attitudes on here are very consistent with the overall population. No matter where you go, there are ignorant and sexist people out there, as well as those who understand. I'm a single male and every girl I've dated has been very open to my profession. Most guys chose it for the adrenaline and excitement involved.

  • @ckliethe

Sorry pal, it’s not “sexist” or “ignorant” for a woman to not want to spread her legs in front of you and let you stick your fingers in her pussy simply because you’re wearing a white coat and chose to go into a field that requires you do it.

As a guy (and a physician), I wouldn’t want a female urologist handling my dick. But at very least, a female urologist sees both male and female, whereas you’ve elected to deal only with female repro organs. That’s just plain creepy, dude.

  • Thank goodness the majority of ob/gyns today are women. For years, women had no choice and got short-changed by misogynistic or creepy male ob/gyns. All the women my age have switched and are recommending that their daughters go to women. I guess there are some women who do not care about the gender of their ob/gyn but most women that I know are more comfortable talking about intimate physical issues with another woman.

  • @GailVDV Doesn't this strike you as just a little sexist? Besides, it's faulty logic. I, as a man, don't talk to my urologist about penises because he's a man. I talk to him about such intimate issues because he's a DOCTOR. And if he were a she, I honestly couldn't give a hoot. Do you have any idea how desensitized to sexuality most doctors are, at least in a clinical setting? They really just don't care. And neither should you.

  • @GailVDV

.....and the statistics unequivocally support what you say.

  • @Hammig74

I’m not saying that I look down on men who go into obstetrics and gynecology. I respect them as trained, skilled physicians and surgeons. But the concept of a man who wants to focus his medical career on womens’ health is so utterly bizarre -- especially in this day and age when 50% of medical school graduates are female -- that it does warrant an element of suspicion towards the men who do.

  • @DrSandmann: Yet, this same field of medicine was dominated by men prior the 70's/80's.

  • @RockyBalboa211

That’s because there weren’t nearly as many women in medicine back then, you fucking momo. Now that there are, OBGYN residents are now 75% women. OBGYN practices now advertise the fact that they are all-female because it is a desirable feature of an OBGYN practice.

The reality is that very few people want male OBGYNs around.

  • @DrSandmann: Yet, that is your own personal opinion. From the articles I have read, most women (above 50%) don't really care if they have a female or male OBGYN, they for the most part just want a competent doctor.

  • @RockyBalboa211

Where are you getting these articles?? Certainly not from the planet Earth. The vast majority of studies show a solid majority of women (in some cases as much as 70-80%) preferring female OBs. And I suspect that the numbers are much higher than studies show, as many (older) women are simply accustomed to seeing male OBs. The statistics support this. Young women overwhelmingly prefer female OBs. And work is getting tougher for male OBs - fewer patients. Lower incomes.

  • @Hammig74

That's not true. About half of all women do care. About 50% prefer female OBs. Only 30% of women don't have any preference.

I'm a physician myself and I've always found OBGYN to be fascinating. But there is something very odd about the concept of a man who chooses to spend his life dealing with womens' health issues.

Sure, there are unpleasant OBs of both sexes, but at least female OBs are practicing in a field that applies to them as intimately as it does to their patients..

  • @DrSandmann I agree! Women should have more respect for themselves than this type of thing. There are plenty of competent female doctors out there for a woman to go to.

  • @Suzanne20198 I also agree! And also, i believe my dog should have more respect for itself, so i only bring him to a Vet who is a Labradoodle!

  • @mjbuffum Whatever!

  • Haha!!! Prince of the Pap!

  • Oops it's backwards!

  • I enjoy reading these rediculous video comments. A doctor is a doctor male or female.

  • youll never have vaginal discharge but youll know what to do with it hahahaha god

  • You guys do realize this is done by med students for fun? Don't get up on your high horses just because they're making fun of a male OB Gyn... Come on, these guys are gonna be docs anyway, and both the girls and the guys in med school find this whole series hilarious.

  • HAHA! Faboulous :)

  • Oh I dunno, maybe some of them do it because it's like surgery but even bloodier when you deliver a baby? And it's a fight to bring a newborn to life? Not all male OB Gyns are pervs. Nothing very arousing about seeing a woman give birth. And even the yearly exams aren't a great sight to see, and it's not because they lack female attention, they're just typical males.. They just have more to comment about because they see a lot more female genitalia than most guys ever will.

  • @AoD669 I don't care how many women a male ob/gyn see's in a day, it is still improper in my opinion for a woman to electively go to see a male doctor for any female intimate issues when it can be avoided!

  • Wow, that was ignorant.

  • quite an ego there...what makes u sure he wouldnt retch from the smell down there?

  • lol

  • You'd rather spread for a veterinarian than a doctor who knows what he's doing?!?!

  • I apologise. I didn't mean to intrude on your personal life. And I fully understand wanting to go to a female gyn. I simply found it unusual to go to an animal doctor for that sort of thing. My intent wasn't to offend you in any way, and I am extremely sorry if I did.

  • I like vets but haven't needed a physical or anything from them as of yet. I love my cats' vet. Wish she was a people doctor, as a matter of fact.

  • You could ask her if she could recommend a people doctor that she thinks is good.

  • I have one, I was just being facetious. Thanks.

  • wow, way to flip the bird to many of the people who advocate and work to improve women's health, as well as the people who probably work with and taught your beloved female ob/gyn. anyway, you have your preferences. hope you enjoy your visits to the vet - i hear those rectal temperature checks they do are just plain amazing.

  • This serious of videos is absolutely hilarious. Gawd I can't for medschool.

  • hillarious!!! I have my ob/gyn rotation coming up - is is really that terrible for men?
