It is very clear that Trianon was a huge mistake and was far too brutal. The only slaughtering that was done was the Mongols, Turks, and Germans killing people. During WWII Hungary offered asylum to the Jews too, and was up until 1944 known as the last safe haven. Since the 1300s they have allowed ethnic groups to have schools and encouraged them to learn in their language. Hence Trianon was enacted thatnks to President Wilson

Before Szalasi even came on to the scene, Horthys troops did some ugly things eg. in Novi Sad, yugoslavia where they marched Serbs and Jews on to the ice and shot them down like chickens. Czechs and Slovaks ensured (successfully) that they will never suffer Hungarian extremism again.

@JohnHowitzer I don't have anything against Slovaks but there never was a "Great Moravia". Doesn't appear in history, Byzantine has no records of it, but the Avar settlements. Slavs were settled at the borders so when nations went to war with Byzantine they'd be the first targets. Before that they weren't unified. Hungarians however have been unified, have genetic similarites with the Avars, and Huns proving legends true. There was no oppression, schooling was avaliable in the tongue of choice.

SO Far all the books I read are by American or British. I will read some Hungarian, but I will tell you I have read Slovak books and a lot of times the authors contradict each other. Seems like the history is scewed and twisted. My professors also say Hungary has been a nation since 1000 AD. (Kingdom of Hungary)

It is true that Slovakia wanted to expel them (the same way Czechia did with Germans), that Slovaks payed to Nazi Germans for coming and taking Jews away, that re-slovakization and changing Magyars from Slovakia for Slovaks from Hungary are also true. But saying sth like "Great Moravia never existed" is...very unintelligent and naive. I can find it on internet, inside any history book.
@koppanyrun Also in museums I could see many things people from Great Moravia made. But it is true we have much more archaeological evidence than wrote documents. Still,there are some mentioning it (from France,for example). Slovak,Czechs and other Slavs were there first, they together lived in this state. Magyars came later, invaded Great Moravia which simply weren't strong enough. Deal with it (and by that I mean both - Magyars and Slovaks).
This film brought tears to my eyes, that we humans can neglect other nationalities and to not even strive to live together in peace, but create fear and hostility and just deport people. I know my grandfather's and grandmother's family was living in the area later became Slovakia. I heard that they had 24 hours to prepare to be transported to Hungary, with things fit to suitcases they could carry, other relatives were relocated to the emptied Chech land where they similarly taken away the German families. Of course I don't have any negative feelings to people with Slovakian nationality, but to politics, who still keep the law which says my ancestors were collectively guilty.
oh, and to Beneš's decrees, it wasn't all about Hungarians, it was about Germans, Czech and Slovak and others (it's true that Hungarians and Germans had to prove they were active antifacists) that had to be accused as facists for their possessions to be confiscated. again, today's term "nationality" is a very difficult matter, I daresay, as it's a way of how someone perceives himself... your idea of how oen becomes Slovak nationality... just because one's parents are Hungarian/Slovak and one is born in Slovakia doesn't make him of Slovak nationality or else there wouldn't be any Hungarians in Slovakia (or any other minorities)... by today's laws of course, as one can decide his nationality by his own inner feelings...
Hunyadi family got this predicat (de Hunyad) only in 1409, when wallachian boyar Vajk was rewarded for his service by king Sigismund de Luxemburg. As to Mathias Corvinus, from middle-ages' point of view he was from home, a hungarian family (where lived Hungarians, Slavs, Romanians etc.), yet even his contemporaries (Johannes de Turocz) says he originated from a wallachian family...
Back to Trianon: What me really hurts it's not the deprivation of territories but the deprivation of territories who lives almost only Hungarian people! Even Austria grabbed land from Hungary through Trianon!! Until this injustice is corrected then there will be no real peace in this region of Europe. I'm a Slovak living in the USA & I find it interesting how we the Americans see ourselves as the good guys in every scenario and think we're damn near perfect yet the eradication and genocide of the Native American by European Americans was much more effective and long term than the Nazi Holocaust.

@sixty8panther Where did you get this history from. Hungary was one of the few countries that like America offered asylum to the people. The only slaughtering that was done was the Mongols, Turks, and Germans killing people. During WWII Hungary offered asylum to the Jews too, and was up until 1944 known as the last safe haven. Since the 1300s they have allowed ethnic groups to have schools and encouraged them to learn in their language. Hence Trianon was enacted thatnks to President Wilson

@sixty8panther As a person of non-central European origin, I have studied the events that happened.The Benes decrees were a reaction to Hungarian territorial grabbing and atrocities which took place during WW2. Before Szalasi even came on to the scene, Horthys troops did some ugly things eg. in Novi Sad, yugoslavia where they marched Serbs and Jews on to the ice and shot them down like chickens. Czechs and Slovaks ensured (successfully) that they will never suffer Hungarian extremism again.

@JohnHowitzer I don't have anything against Slovaks but there never was a "Great Moravia". Doesn't appear in history, Byzantine has no records of it, but the Avar settlements. Slavs were settled at the borders so when nations went to war with Byzantine they'd be the first targets. Before that they weren't unified. Hungarians however have been unified, have genetic similarites with the Avars, and Huns proving legends true. There was no oppression, schooling was avaliable in the tongue of choice.

SO Far all the books I read are by American or British. I will read some Hungarian, but I will tell you I have read Slovak books and a lot of times the authors contradict each other. Seems like the history is scewed and twisted. My professors also say Hungary has been a nation since 1000 AD. (Kingdom of Hungary)

It is true that Slovakia wanted to expel them (the same way Czechia did with Germans), that Slovaks payed to Nazi Germans for coming and taking Jews away, that re-slovakization and changing Magyars from Slovakia for Slovaks from Hungary are also true. But saying sth like "Great Moravia never existed" is...very unintelligent and naive. I can find it on internet, inside any history book.

@koppanyrun Also in museums I could see many things people from Great Moravia made. But it is true we have much more archaeological evidence than wrote documents. Still,there are some mentioning it (from France,for example). Slovak,Czechs and other Slavs were there first, they together lived in this state. Magyars came later, invaded Great Moravia which simply weren't strong enough. Deal with it (and by that I mean both - Magyars and Slovaks).

This film brought tears to my eyes, that we humans can neglect other nationalities and to not even strive to live together in peace, but create fear and hostility and just deport people. The Slovaks involved should have also been put on trial for crimes against humanity. They had a choice to fight these injust laws and chose to kick people off land that Hungarians has lived on for over 1000 years.

It is about the Hungarians in Slovakia, who were injustly persecuted for their ethnicity, and Benes was decreeing Slovakization, did in slaughter 40,000. Every Hungarian, Slovak, Serb, etc had a right to an education in their own language of choice. I know my grandfather's and grandmother's family was living in the area later became Slovakia. I heard that they had 24 hours to prepare to be transported to Hungary, with things fit to suitcases they could carry, other relatives were relocated to the emptied Chech land where they similarly taken away the German families. Of course I don't have any negative feelings to people with Slovakian nationality, but to politics, who still keep the law which says my ancestors were collectively guilty.

oh, and to Beneš's decrees, it wasn't all about Hungarians, it was about Germans, Czech and Slovak and others (it's true that Hungarians and Germans had to prove they were active antifacists) that had to be accused as facists for their possessions to be confiscated. Many times it was misused by personal enemies, but in which after-war countries such practicies aren't? I'm not saying it's correct, it's just understandable from that time's point of view... now the decrees are a dead law...

again, today's term "nationality" is a very difficult matter, I daresay, as it's a way of how someone perceives himself... your idea of how oen becomes Slovak nationality... just because one's parents are Hungarian/Slovak and one is born in Slovakia doesn't make him of Slovak nationality or else there wouldn't be any Hungarians in Slovakia (or any other minorities)... by today's laws of course, as one can decide his nationality by his own inner feelings...

Hunyadi family got this predicat (de Hunyad) only in 1409, when wallachian boyar Vajk was rewarded for his service by king Sigismund de Luxemburg. But once again, if I must, I declare that I never said (and never will) that he was not a hungarian king, nor that Johannes Hunyadi was not a great hungarian warrior and hero. First once more, to distinguish several words: nationality (elective, declarative, in middle-ages practically non-exisitng), origin (by parantage), adjective (a grammar category). As to Mathias Corvinus, from middle-ages' point of view he was from home, a hungarian family (where lived Hungarians, Slavs, Romanians etc.), yet even his contemporaries (Johannes de Turocz) says he originated from a wallachian family...

Sorry, but the fact that Matyas's father was a romanian, not because of where he was born, but because of his origin (means parantage, language he speaks), that's what made him of romanian origin... but yea, the fact that he ruled in middle ages's Hungary makes him a Hungarian king, not a romanian, but his "nationality" (though such a term in 15th century didn't truly exist) made him a romanian.

Nonetheless, I never deprived him his great strategic abilities, cause he was an awesome warrior, who protected his homeland... Have you ever been down to those cities and towns? Have you ever spoken with people there? I have and I have a lot of friends there. They are free to speak their own maternal language, they have schools where they learn in their language and so on and on... and the fact is, I know of no one there, who wants to be a part of Hungary (you know, once a referendum was held just because of this and it was unsuccesfull, people didn't wish it to change... neither then, nor now...

It's funny that a handful of hungayrians inhabiting the regions of slovakia, Romania, Serbia etc demand that these territories are hungayrian, yet the moajority of peoples there were non-hungayrian. How about those peoples? Hungayrians cry about "lost" terrirories that were never theirs, to begin with. Those territories belonged to many empires over time; roman, mongolian, turkisk, russian, habsburg, austro-hungarian empires. How about slovaks, romanians, serbs, ukranians taht lived then?

Let's discuss this a bit; first of all 31.6 % doesn't make that land hungarian land at all. Second of all many many people declared themselves to be hungarians as they were treated quite badly (in the empire) if they said that they were romanians for example. Third of all the empire was called the AUSTRO-HUNGARIAN empire, not The Hungarian empire.

@pufycino first of all: in the middle ages the hungarian poppulation was more than 80%.only few slavakians and croatians lived next to rivers and the sea.the historical hungarian constitution the szent korona tan (studies of/about the holy crown) says that the guest with good will must be welcome.the settlers DON'T HAD ANY TAXES while Saint Stephen made very high taxes for hungarians.he said this will make the country stronger.

@vanettova Even today these hungarians don't seem to understand that they live in the middle of other people, being slovaks, romanians, serbs, ukranians etc. How about if there were 1.4 million romanians in Hungary demanding that the land was theirs? Maybe we'll just move a few people to Hungary. As a matter of fact hundreds of houses were bought by romanians in the eastern part of Hungary; maybe one day we'll ask for autonomy there. Im sure the hungarians will be happy to hear that.

@pufycino Ok, my dear friend. If we can speak about "hungarization" in the past then today we can also speak about "slovakization", "romanization" etc. Because today many of Hungarians consider themselves as Romanians or slovakians etc.
It's history what prove existing Hungarian Kingdom in Carpathian Basin. It is fact. We didn't live in the past to prove something (we speak about fictions today) but be sure when today somebody undertake to be Hungarian it has reason.

@pufycino after the mongolian invasion (where romanians don't helped) the population of hungary fell from 1.600.000 to 950.000.when the king returned after the mongolians left he opened the borders.everyone could enter without saying who is he why he want to be in hungary etc. jews came from poland some of italians,spaniards and french and so on.people gathered very quickly (imagine that u have land if u enter a state...).
