  • What do u think the max egt numbers should be with the probe in the manifold by number 8 cyl ??????? I keep hearing all different numbers

  • @papatrl Don't run over 1300F for sustained periods.

  • Great video! I like how the editing kept the almost 8:00 minute video flowing. Do you have an obsession with "8" but keep finding you just get shy of your 8 goals?

  • My 1990 Ranger had 400,000 before it went out, the previous owners didnt take care of him so six months after i bought her she died :( but she has a new engine the 4.0L v6 and new trans, just as powerful as the day it rolled out of the factory and hope to put another 400,000.

  • How many miles are on spot now. And ive got a 99 Ford F350 CC Dually 7.3/6 speed with 311,000 on the clock. I had a TS Performance 6 position chip. I recently had the chip redone by tony wildmen and now the truck wont start if the chip is plugged in, and as soon as the chip is unplugged it will start and run fine, but with the chip in it wont start or fire. Ive tried everything i can think and it wont help. Could you please help me with my problems. Thank you

  • @G2500expressman I'd ditch that chip and email Jody at dp-tuner (dot) com and get him to fix you up with an F5 tuner.

  • How many miles are on spot now.

  • @G2500expressman Just got the oil changed at 835,000

  • if you maintain them they will last my chevy 350 almost got 300k miles on it before i had to rebuild it and it was hard miles its whole life pulled it apart and everything was still in good shape could have reused everything but the pistons cam looked new still everything still looked good besides the walls

  • 1,284,528 km.

  • Did spot have powdered or forged rods?

  • @ig0fastr Spot is a 2000 model so it had the forged rods.

  • @powerstrokehelp What model years of the 7.3 had powered connecting rods? I thought all 7.3 diesel engines had forged rods?

  • @mrdestoryit 2002 model year they started putting the powdered metal con rods like in a 6.0.

  • @mrdestoryit 9000 full synthetic. It is pricey but worth it.

  • Hey you wanna sell or giveaway a couple of those pistons? I'll pay shipping!!

  • @SuperchargedMustang5 We get several every week. How many do you want? Broke trucks are my business. I take the chaos (kibbles and bits) and turn it into running trucks again.

  • @powerstrokehelp 2 or 3

  • @SuperchargedMustang5 email me your address thru the website and i will send you a couple.

  • i get about 17-18 mpg on WVO with my truck that has 415k miles on the clock. i have 3.73 gears, 37" tires, superchips tuner K&N air filter, 5.5" exhaust.

  • @ig0fastr You obviously keep a very close eye on the fuel quality.

  • Awesome.....wonder how many transmissions that thing went through.

  • @hitmanhite Three total. It prompted us to explore upgrades for the 4r100. Necessity is the mother of invention.

  • did you hang that block up in your shop?

  • @dilauroj94 Nope its probably been recycled into a dozen honda engineblocks by now

  • @powerstrokehelp one fender off that truck could probably build a whole civic

  • One guy who watched this was either a hardcore cummins or Duramaxie fan.

  • have you relative in italy ?

  • @baffone1234 My mother lives in Memphis, TN but I think that is the wrong direction.

  • Ja pierdziele ten gość gada więcej niż moja matka i dziewczyna razem wzięte.

Nie pomyślał chyba na wet że przebieg na zegarach morze dotyczyć auta ale nie silnika. Silnik mógł być pe remoncie lub wymieniony a nawet nowy a zegarów niekt nie wyzerował. ;/

  • @zsmh102 TRANSLATION - Holy S**t this guy talks more than my mother and my girlfriend put together.

The mileage is for the vehicle only and the engine may be newer or rebuilt than the rest of the vehicle. No one has made the odometer back to zero when the engine was replaced.

  • @powerstrokehelp I worked on the truck since it was new so have first had knowledge of its origins. No engine was installed in the truck because I would have been the one to do it.

  • I'm curious your experience with dodge and cheverolet engines? (5.9, 6.6)

you seem so impressed with the 6.0 vgt in your other videos, but really, the 6.0 his problematic for average goe, (which is the MAIN body of customers) and the oil activated, electronically controlled injection design is not the most efficient in winter.

i've owned one 2001 cummins, and am looking at a 2000 7.3 ford, and have several concerns. when i see it in person i'll know more. thanks for the videos!

  • @jmanwild I have no experience with Dodge or Chevrolet. You are correct that the 6.0L is difficult for the average mechanic to diagnose. It is a cake walk compared to a 6.4 or 6.7. The old 7.3 is a hard to beat for longevity but emissions made it a dinosaur.

  • @powerstrokehelp thats really too bad. i think you'd be very happy with the 04+duramax, they are one of my favorite new engines. however, the new 6.7 cummins sure is hard to beat for life. the thing i like about dodges is the ease of working on them. SO much room. there isn't a 4"x4" whole in the 6.4 that isn't full. 7.3's are great, and a good competitor to the older 5.9 cummins, but not as easy to keep milage. (modified cummins can still achieve 20, where as a 7.3 is more of a 16-18mpg engine.

  • @jmanwild

I get 20mpg all day long in my 7.3L with a crew cab, longbed, dually, and 265/75/16 tires. It's been my experience that a properly maintained/tuned cummins, duramax, or PSD all get around 20mpg.

You really can't go wrong with just about any gas or diesel engine in any car or truck these days. Most are bulletproof and get double the power and fuel economy of a given motor from 20 or 30 years ago. The 60s was not the golden age of cars. Today is.

  • This video just made up my mind on what my future truck will be... I can't believe how good those bores and the crank look.

  • what typeof oil did you use? and what'd you do for maintence ?

  • @SpeedDemon07 Scheffers with FS2500 bypass filtration. Oil change every month which would average 15,000-18,000 miles.

  • bill i had seen all your videos over and over again u r d best . i got new brand new 6.4 in 2008.right now has just 15000k ihad done all the things u recomemded in your videos delete dpf retune to avoid regen install the amsoil by pass with syntetic oil and i have nothing to tow .if i keep going at this rate of 5000 k a year it would take me 160 years to reach 800 000 go figure. keep those good videos of yours comming

  • I've owned 2 Cummins pickups and 1 Duramax. After watching most of your videos...I'm ready for a Powerstroke...and a 6.0L at that! I've always loved the SuperDutys and the Powerstroke engines but just haven't tackled one yet. The knowledge you give in your videos is inspiring as well as priceless. You work on things like I do...very technical, practical and precise. Thank you for sharing your world with us! You've got the best job in the world!!!

  • So would the 7.3 with a manual transmission be the truck you would recommend for someone looking to buy their first Powerstroke?

  • love your videos your very good at explaing how to do the work keep posting thanks

  • Its too bad Ford couldn't find a way to solve the emissions problem with the 7.3 they are awsome engines. Hopefully the 6.7 can become an icon like the 7.3 in longevity and dependability even though its not a Navistar anymore. Kind of sucks they don't make manual trans anymore.

  • Spot is loaded with a trailer full of 6.4L motors ready to head north after the new year. Who'd a thunk that an 10 year old 825,000 mile would be used to buy 3 year old motors because they cant be found due to high breakage rate. Got to love it. Every day is a new adventure.

    HAPPY NEW YEAR

  • so wait this truck went almost 800,000 miles being run with nitrous and driven hard its whole life. thats built fuckin ford tough

  • @starr101010 You mean International tough.

  • @starr101010 how come i cant find the thumbs up button for your comment!!! but triple thumbs up to this!!! lol

  • the 6L connecting rod is bent, you can see the the abnormal bearing wear

  • lol hes funny, must be nice to turn your head and get a part when you need one.

  • Fords are tough vehicles.

  • Point well made. If you take care of it, notice the issues at hand and address the correct things, it will make it to damn near 800k. Maintain what you have, and it will return the favor.

  • Happy to see you put it back together .... about half way through the video i thought please please tell me you didn't bury this truck for the sake of a motor ? and you fixed it , good deal !

  • Look how much beefier the 7.3 connecting rod is compared to 6.0!

  • Hey, I was wondering if a powerstroke would be a good engine for someone wanting to learn more about diesels. I am great with gasoline engines, but dont know snot about diesels. I have always loved late 90's powerstrokes (like spot) and would like to have one. You said your in GA too, right?

  • just proves a 7.3 is bulletproof

  • what kind of oil were you sayin to run?

  • Im sold, how do I get that Shaffer Oil?

  • wow thats 1'277'070KM. only old (1960's-80's) Ford Falcon taxis and Mercedes got that far over hear. id say that did reel well. dam they are a huge engine. good to see it has a/c nice job

  • all i can say is 7.3L and superduty. that expalins it all

  • dude awsome just amazing 800K miles and runnin nitrous and doin donuts and proane wtf only a POWERSTROKE!!!

  • That is one UGLY mule.

  • why are wheel spacers bad??

  • "I dunno, one too many nitrous runs on the dyno"

    LOL awsome

  • holy shit

  • haha shit u got that many miles out of it?

  • I have a 1993 f250 7.3 naturally aspirated diesel truck that has 797,000 miles on it. Since day one it has had a set of work boxes on the back that are loaded with tools it weighs so much we had a shop up the springs to f550 springs and they sag. This motor would be a good engine to look at when it dies. I live in greenville,sc. My grandfather still drives the truck daily so it will pass 800,000 soon. What do you think about the 6.0L in the 2006 F250 that is what i bought despite the 6.0 probs.

  • Bill, you are the powerstroke GOD!!!!!!!!!

  • man your garage is powerstroke heaven!!

  • Maybe those parts were newer

  • Charlotte? ur in NC? Sweet

  • What tuning were you running? And what tune was it in when it broke?

  • What tuning are you running? And what tune was it in when it blew?

  • Hummm didnt have anything to do with tuning and TIMING would it? LOL

  • R.I.P. Spot! you will be missed :-(

  • can i come live in your shop? lol

  • That's a 7.3L Powerstroke for you.

These 7.3s never give up no matter hard you push them.

  • danm thats ammazing iv seen a power stroke tow truck with over a million miles on an original engine

  • u cummins woulda blown a long time ago.

  • Amazing. Even the machine marks on the piston looked untouched. Clean on the inside as a propane forklift motor.

I am getting that oil now!

  • i need to come down n visit you shop someday

  • Bill you freaking ROCK!! I will be needing a tranny rebuild soon. I live out in here in So Cal what are your recommendations?

  • Fix

    Or

    Repair

    at 800k miles:)

  • that is a lot of miles on that truck

  • If I ever get to 800,000 on my 7.3 that will be in a few centuries.

  • If you had torn it down prior to the failure, how would you have been able to spot the rod that let loose?

Anyway, great series! Thanks for all the insight.

  • I think It would have been obvious. A crack or even slightly bent. We have seen that before.

  • @powerstrokehelp i build inline 4's with turbos. never paid much attention to trucks until my girlfriends dyno'ed at 800hp. i have learned a lot from you.

  • Bill, I have been running the Rotella 5w/40 synthetic in my 6.4, and plan on using it throughout its life. Is this a good oil for the 6.4?

  • thats alot of miles on that truck. at least thats all the went out of the truck and not somthing else

  • This truck is on its 2nd rear end. Pinion seal went bad in TX and they drove it back. Started howling about Meridian, MS. The gears were blue when we finally got it. Numerous transmissions, I personally killed 4 doing High Performance testing, but we learned how to build a better 4R100 transmission. This is only good for my customers. Lost count of the brakes and tires.

  • @powerstrokehelp I've got a question for you, I'm looking for either a 1998 too a 2001 F250 Super Duty with a 7.3L Turbo Diesel, how much would you say one of those bad boys is worth nowadays?

  • @powerstrokehelp hey man, Im sure your customers appreciate it....they should anyway! .........798,000 ....and ppl wonder why I love this engine!?!

  • LONG LIVE SPOT! Bill lets here your opinion on the 6.7

  • Can you clarify something? Has it been running Schaeffers its whole life or just after you got it.?

  • Run its whole life from 64K miles and I switched it back to Rotella semi synthetic around 750K when I removed the fs-2500 due to a hole in a leaky return line.

  • wow, you make it look so easy! must be nice to have lots of parts. my 7.3 is in need of a oil pan, definately not looking forward to that. do you find the cold air intake does anything? i got one, with funtional scoops, dont notice much.

  • Definitely! Bill, when do you think you will be doing the 6.4 teardown video?

  • Soon. Our Master Mechanics Series will be up soon. Been working on that day and night for the last 90 days.

  • Buford, GA. Go to the website for exact directions

  • My 2006 F250 6.0 has only 40,000 miles. I feel left out with all these big numbers. lol

    Great video. Keep them coming.

What do you think about the new 6.7L coming out for 2011?

  • Ask me in 5 years what I think about the 6.7.

  • i hade a custermer today with their powerstoke and it had a code for injector press low or high, It was low 6 qts of iol and 3500 mile pass due for a lof, safty insp. How stupid can people bee let their engines run out of oil.

  • your vid are realy cool, you show how engines work and ways to make em last thanks very informative as well a learning prosses

  • Nice work.

  • Just wondering, how can you expect this rebuilt engine to last another 800K miles? Especially when the head's from another 800K mile engine, and the pump's from stock.

  • Its a joke. We cobbled this motor together out of parts lying around, because that is what was available. This truck has ALWAYS been a bucks down project, just to see how much bang for the buck we can get.

  • Hi Bill! Im a BIG fan of yours. I wanted to know if you where running Schaeffer's oil plus Prolong, or did you just use the Schaffer's by itself? Thanks for the help BIG BILL and keep up the good work!!!!

  • this was one of your best videos yet!

  • Another great vid!! Your vids are the best informational vids on youtube, hands down. I learn so much.

Thank you sir for taking the time to produce them. Made my day :)

  • Great video! Keep them coming.

  • Rest in pieces spot motor.

  • nice video well said

  • great vid, I'm putting a long block in my early 99 right now (shameless plug, i have vids) and this gives me hope that I will "get my money's worth." I knew spot had a lot of miles on it, and while it's a sad day when a block gets that jacked up, it gives the rest of us a good idea of what to expect. Thanks for what you do.

  • Simply amazing!!!

  • you are gonna fix it right?? Too damn good of a truck not to

  • So what is you opinion on propane for diesel's good or bad and is it worth it? I am half way through a heavy duty diesel tech. school in Orlando and plan on buying my first diesel for personal use we had them at a company I worked for and loved driving them there. Im trying to decide over bone stock 4x4 Cummins or psd. I believe a inline is more reliable then a V what do you think?

  • holy crapper!

Bill is Spot still gonna be a "Mule"?

  • No just going to run up and down the road.

  • WOW!!!! great american steel!!!!! lasts practially forever!!!! i wouldent keep it with 200,000 miles

    no resale!!!LOL

  • Thanks for the great video Bill, learned a lot from you!

  • What year is the truck and the motor a 6.0 ? 7.3 ???....Keep up the good work and thanks for sharing

  • 2000 F-250 2wd 7.3L

  • your videos are great, and this is no exception. how many other people noticed you deviated from your black on black wardrobe scheme in this vid? that's right, Bill has on BLUE pants!!!

  • It was cold that morning. And it was the only pants I could find that didn't smell like diesel fuel.

  • that's cool, brother. i just have never seen you wearing anything other than black. this vid makes me wonder what my 2000 with 154,000 looks like on the inside. i wish your shop was closer to me because you would definitely get my business. thanks for the vids and i can't wait to see more 6.4 stuff.

  • Bill, that is amazing! Do you think the 6.4 is as well built as the 7.3? I would like to get 800k out of it. I do have a DPF delete and Spartan tuning.

  • The 6.4L is one of the most amazing engines I have ever worked with. But they run so much better once the tuning and DPF are changed. With the EGR electronically turned off the truck runs much cooler which will help it last longer. You are headed in the right direction with the Spartain system, just don't run it hard all the time.

  • I hear you mention Charlotte in the video. You from NC also?

    And were those forged rods?

  • I buy wrecks from alll over the SE. Yes those were forged connecting rods.

  • it lasted that long beacouse it was a diesel i have a 6.0 diesel Chevy ans its lasted me 650,000 miles and thats with proper maintenance and absoluteley no additives on the diesel, its still runing and we give it alot of weight beacouse its our tow truck in my shop

  • I have an '84 Suburban with a 6.5L non turbo and 680k miles that gets 29MPG. It is slow as dirt but it doesnt burn any oil.

  • Did you use Prolong plus Schaeffer's oil when you changed the oil in this truck? Or just Schaeffer's. I mean it is a Sythetic oil.

  • what u think of the 6.0 i found a o6 for 13k at a dealer and i watched ur video about all the fubars i have a 6.9 idi i love that thing but i hopeing to get a power storke i have watch all ur videos

  • are you going to put all of the preformance parts on this motor?

  • Staying with stock injectors, mild tuning, fuel mods, exhaust, etc. The truck runs so much better with stock injectors especially in the winter. I am tired of it smoking and having to wrench on it all the time. I just want to turn the key and go down the road.

  • me and my dad want to do some light preformance mods to our 01 f250, were just trying to figure out what we can do to it that wont affect the longjevity of the truck.

  • So im just guessing here, the way everything was looking, if everything would be fine and not driven hard. I think this could have been a million mile engine.

If it was driven really nice unlike this, lol. Mabey. But who doesnt want to have fun sometimes :)

  • That is safe to say that it had a high probability of going to the 1M mile mark if we had not beat on it so hard.

  • haha, and I thought getting my jeep to 350,000 was good until the water and mud got to deep one day, lol. I was shooting for 500 but shot myself on that one.

  • Great video, Bill! Keep them coming!
