This video is a biased version of the facts. Belgium was very cooperative to give Congo its independence. Only problem was that Lumumba and his followers wanted it to happen too fast. And because all the power in Congo was concentrated with the Belgians, nobody had any experience in leading the country. Lumumba and others lacked experience in leadership which caused the country to collapse when the Belgians left. Lumumba became victim of the filthy struggle for power afterwards.

The narration was correct up until the point where it introduced Mobutu. After that, it was terribly bias. The narrator is from the US through her accent. She intentionally left out the widely known evidence of the US CIA's sponsorship of Mobutu. The CIA never hid their ambition during that time. The US was petrified that the African country was following the economic model of communism. Mobotu was funded to kill Lumumba because he was hurting the profits of western corporations in Africa.

The one and only aspect of the US government's practiced policies towards which I have absolute dissent is the US's tendency to get into other countries' national affairs especially when we have problems on our own homefront. That is why the US has such a bad reputation with other countries. And Lumumba wasn't shot by Belgians but by officers from Katanga in the presence of Tshombe, at that time president of Katanga. @necrofear98: Congo was recognized by the UN and the UN sent a force (ONUC) in 1960 to prevent more chaos from happening. Only 5 days after the independence the Force Publique started mutiny and raped Belgian women. That's why Belgium sent its army, to protect its citizens. Also this film remains very quiet about the role of the CIA and the USA in this affaire.

He did not flee Belgium when it was invaded because he wanted to stay with his people. During the occupation he was forced to meet Hitler who held him imprisoned in his palace. This video is a biased version of the facts. Belgium was very cooperative to give Congo its independence. Only problem was that Lumumba and his followers wanted it to happen too fast. And because all the power in Congo was concentrated with the Belgians, nobody had any experience in leading the country. Lumumba and others lacked experience in leadership which caused the country to collapse when the Belgians left. Lumumba became victim of the filthy struggle for power afterwards.
