  • This was one of the first singles I bought as a teenager. I started playing guitar at 14 and Hank Marvin was one of my guitar heroes. I've seen them in concert a couple of times and , of course, they were great!

  • 快沉入海洋的大陸之音***

  • Wore a hole right through the middle of my cricket bat practicing this one! :-)

  • how can you not enjoy the shads... all new guitar players should learn this one ....easy and sounds great....

  • i'm 14 and love the shadows

  • really wonderful. hank one of the best and the sound of the guitar makes me happy.

  • the bassist is in the shadows...

  • fantastic

  • Thank You

  • R.I.P Hank

  • TOD YES !+

  • This is the group that inspired, Eric Clapton, George Harrison, Jeff Beck, John Lennon and a host of other world top guitar players to learn how to play, no strumming 3-4 chords here, they know how to play the instrument,

  • I think 'Atlantis' was composed by Jerry Lordan, (who did 'Apache' & 'Wonderful Land' plus others including 'Diamonds' and 'Scarlett O'Hara' for Jet Harris and Tony Meehan). Some reckon it was the first release featuring the Burns Marvin guitar, although most say 'Flingle Bunt' was the first 'Marvin' track.

  • @megivinupsoon Flingle bunt was the first track using the burns marvin guitar not Atlantis

  • hank marvin............the king

  • Is it just me, or is the volume lower than a snake's dick in Death Valley?

  • I have one of hank marvis old strats ..a prezzy for helping out back in the late 70s, My son plays it at college.

The shadows sound is unique in many ways but when live and using duff backing the sound is a cheap reminder of the great sounds they use to produce

  • Hank trying to keep awake

  • The Best Sounds !!

  • reminds me of my childhood ,my dad used to play the shadows all the time, especially at Christmas.

funny how you can hear something and suddenly be bombarded by a thousand memories............

  • quanti bei ricordi ed i primi tentativi di suonare una chitarra....

  • As you said - it's "Apache"

  • This song is Atlantis not Apache.

  • @dudla42

    learn to read ;)

at upper site at the right side ;)

  • whats the song...almost like this, similar to the ventures apache, that is like whistling...almost a western type sound...i cannot find it, and there are no lyrics.

  • Check out Mustang or Savage.

  • The song is Atlantis and yes there are no lyrics. Apache Was written by Jerry Lordan and done by the Shadows.

  • it's great song i love you music atlantis

  • This is one of their best songs.

  • We will always remember you Tony Meehan !

  • best song from The Shadows

  • Thank You - One of my favorites !!

  • Got to be one of the best sounding from a Fender !!

  • ah.. many imitators on youtube (some very good) but you can't beat the real thing !!

  • They make it seem so easy, The Shads forever!!!!!!

  • Good but sounded better on the last tour.

  • Linda música!

  • can someone tell me- is this bass player Shadow's original player? Thanks..

  • NO! the original bass player was JET HARRIS who left the Shadows after a couple of years.

    The guy on stage during this show is the excellent Marc GRIFFITHS;

  • Jet Harris left The Shadows in 1962 (with the drummer Jet Harris, with whom he got a great success in 1963 singing "Diamonds", number one in Britain for four weeks)

  • Think you made a 'typo' here - the drummer was Tony Meehan. Also Diamonds was an instrumental so he didn't 'sing' it.

  • Awesone Guitar Work WoW

  • The Shadows, there music brought so much to pop in the 60's.

  • we need more gutiar

  • very good

  • did the shadows write this song? if not, who is the original by?

  • yes its from Marvin/Bennet 1963

  • Its an instrumental and it was written by jerry lordan for the shadows.

  • @sirpeter1946 Actually it was written by jerry lordan

  • @tomobigfeller I believe it's composed Jerry Lordan...

  • @tomobigfeller

Jerry Lordan wrote this song, Atlantis along with Apache and Wonderful Land - three of the very best guitar instrumentals ever written.

  • @668483 Yup! What a combination - Hank's performing skills & Jerry's composing!!!!!

  • @tomobigfeller Jerry Lordan wrote this song, Atlantis along with Apache and Wonderful Land - three of the best guitar instrumentals ever written.

  • @tomobigfeller Jerry Lordan

  • @tomobigfeller Jerry Lordan

  • @tomobigfeller It was written by Jerry Lordan who also wrote Apache and Wonderful Land.

  • HANK MARVIN is the best sounding guitarist ever for me... and BRUCE is superb .

the sound that HANK and the SHADOWS get is incredible. 50 years and still going . simply the best

  • I was at that gig, wonderful memories.

  • Thanks sirpeter, for your info I will try try to look for it in Jakarta, thats the nearest i have in mind coz if found lots of it there, i managed to get DVD of All UB40, Few of Elvis(Hawaii), Cliff Richard Life, Tom Jones, Engelbert Humperdick, just have the patience and just scout around you will get one.

Nizmanlee, What it did was download it with Real Player as most of my favourite songs are being download , thanks for being a fan of the "Evergreen Group"

  • Dear Sirpeter1946, thanks for dwnload the "Shadows" .Hv ben looking for DVD but couldn't find one in Malaysia. I managed to record it from our TV3 station, but misplace the VCR tape. Did you download all of them . Is it the same as the one "Live in Birmingham" kindly update me. I will download it to VCD... Once again thank you very very much..their musics is always evergreen and forever fresh..

  • its from the DVD Live At Empire,Liverpool,UK from 1989

    Hope u can find it

    sincerly Peter

  • You are right, I have been searching the DVD, VCD, Video tapes of the Shadows but failed. The only remedy is that I go to a jamming sesion in Kota Kinabalu that there's a band consisting of 5 Old man that plays only The Shadows & bit of Elvis.

  • Comment removed

  • You're too late luv. These '5 old men' as you call them were playing for over 40 years whilst you and your retard family were still picking fruit.

  • at the time he had Roland 301s before that back in 78 he had a 201 or a 101

  • the 2004 farewell tour version is even better

  • pure sound

  • Various posts proclaim Hank as one of the greatest Lead guitarests of all time and I would not disagree. I would say that Bruce Welch is without doubt the greatest Rhythm guitarest alive today.

  • i sign that ;)

  • I second that motion

  • Pretty cool; not to match echo, and just enough compression--haha--.

The sound makes a part of the success of any group....OF COURSE.

    Ivan

  • Curious what effects he uses. Are the short tones made by compression??

  • seems like he is just muting the strings for the "short" tones and he uses some delay i believe thats the only effect he uses...

  • I PLAY IT :D

    it's great.

  • until now i still practicing on how to play the intro...the sound is awesome!!!!!

  • Everybody goes on about how good Hank is. But what about Bruce? He must have wanted to go solo as a lead guitarist, but stuck with THE SHADOWS instead. Jet Harris left them but Bruce has been there all the time.

I say LONG LIVE BRUCE without him you would have no SHADOWS.

  • I 100% agree, btw is Bruce also a wonderfull Solo-Player,but his Fame is his wonderfull Rythm

and he plays this also in his own Band and has his own Leadplayer

so all is best as it is

  • Theme used by pirate radio ship Radio Atlantis...just brilliant supreme group ?

    Jeff

  • THE MAN HIMSELF..... Awesome.

    Ivan

  • Just a star! They all are. Hank makes the guitar talk. They've been around all my life and all my life I've loved them. Next year for my 50th I'll be entering the party to Wonderful Land.

  • Hank Marvin, in a different class altogether. I'm sure he could make the guitar talk if he wanted to.

  • Actually i listen to Genesis, Pink Floyd, The Rolling Stones, Coldplay....Rock

    But this is so harmonic!!!!

    What Genre is this?

  • well i class this as pop rock but it is instumental music which i love!!

  • its Instrumental Rock,PhilCollins93

  • das ist einfach Super

  • exelente

  • Over the years I've bought the shadows greatest hits at least 3 times...lol

    Forever great.

  • Such a great song.

  • what a track, used it for many years as a theme tune while a dj.

  • One of their best tracks, although i reckon you can't beat the original recording...

  • It's a lovely tune. Recently heard someone busking it and they did a good job of it, I asked them what it was called and from there, my interest in the Shadows was born.

  • Absolutely brilliant! Atlantis marked a magic era for those of us fortunate enough to live through it. Harder to play than it seems ... Bruce Welch is the real, less obvious force here with sublime rhythm that never misses a beat.

  • Agree Terrific, imo he's a bit lost in the mix wrt to the lead

  • the best guitar song 4ever. :D

  • blackbirdtwig,,,, you're not alone...Hank and the Shadows is still my all time favorite.. Long live the Shadows

  • This one of my favorites. "The Shadows" has been my favorite band 44 years from the year 1963.

  • Listen to the smooth expression of the rythm guitar of Bruce Welch...Finest Sound!

  • Fantastic, these guys can do no wrong in my eyes.Hank is my all time favourite guitar hero !! long may they continue !!!

  • Pellucidar,

Worry not, for they will persist in there influence long after we have departed this mortal coil! Instrumental group par excellance!

  • they're great! :D

  • A new tune, for me, though I'm long familiar with the soul coaxing guitar melodies so lovingly crafted by Hank Marvin. I pray that some of the new young guitarists who appreciate this kind of playing don't let it pass from the music scene as we lose a few more of this era's fine craftsmen every year. Hey, take up the torch and carry it. There will always be a place for music this well turned, somewhere in the world.

  • Beautiful.. Absolutely beautiful..

  • Fantastic like the 60´s version with the Brasilian Jet Black´s os verdadeiros

  • If 'The Shadows' management got their act together it is not to late for them to capture the USA.

  • Ima 24 year old guitar player, and when I first heard these guys, I was blown away. This is very soulful music, and very soulful guitar playing. I love these guys.

  • Pay homage ye heathen or be damned for eternity. You are in the presence of greatness.

  • Amen

    :)

  • hank marvin looks like the bad guy from bruce lees the big boss

  • and what has this to do with the MUSIC? Troll ;)

  • Wonderful music and wonderful land and the SHADOWS CEM_TURKEY

  • Atlantis, definately not lost like the City,

A beautiful tune, especially the tape echo

  • Likely Hank will not be touring for too long now as he is getting up in years. The Shadows were my joy of the early 60's. Hank is now an elder in a congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses in Australia. He and another ex-Shadow are JW's and almost had Cliff become one.

  • A wonderful song and a wonderful tribute to its composer Jerry Lordan who also gave the Shadows other greats like Apache and Wonderful Land

  • what a great song!

  • Probably an even better tune than Wonderful Land - fab

  • check my channel ;)

  • pls post more video about the shadows thank

  • Thank you for posting !

  • they are the best

  • great to see the shadows again. give us more please

  • love this video
