The CONTROLLED CROSSING AREA SYSTEM (CCAS) designed for Regional level crossings, invented in Australia in 2005 and ignored by the State and Federal Governments has been sold to the Britsh and Europeans.
This advertisement was used as the basis of the power point presentation for the sale of the CONTROLLED CROSSING AREA SYSTEM, the CCAS was demonstrated over this Government ad, and the CCAS was immediately purchased, by foreign investors.
Yet another Australian invention gets sold overseas.
The railway crossing safety ads that were aired in South Australia are in my opinion much more effective and graphic. Although infrastructure upgrades are needed in many areas across Australia, driver attitude is the biggest problem however, and in particular, trying to change the attitudes of drivers insistent on taking a big risk to save a minute of their journey.
I think the ad is cheap, and reflects the effort being invested in rail crossing safety not only in Victoria, but Australia wide. The ad of course is in response to the Kerang crash... which occurred on a badly designed crossing, with aged signals, on a blind corner, with the train hidden by tree's. It was a disaster waiting to happen.
I don't think this ad is at all effective. While I can't imagine a much harsher penalty than being hit by a train going over 100 kilometres an hour .... getting the message through to dead people might be a bit tricky ... People are not stupid. If they are going to do it, they are going to do it. The government should be removing level crossings. Otherwise they have blood on their hands.
Only in Victoria...
