@nosfero Don't assume I have never rolled with a skilled "TKD guy" either. (For the record, I put him in an armbar) I'm not saying TKD is crap. it's a great base for kicks. But as an all around form of self defense, or even sport fighting against non TKD, I don't like it. There is no defense at all in TKD. Im not a fan of point fighting.
@tallglassofwater007 I agree with you (bear in mind I do TKD and nothing else), however, I only believe this is true for Olympic TKD. Proper (traditional) TKD (whether it be ITF or WTF) even has a ground game and takedowns and elbows and all that, it's just that most schools only focus on the competitive aspect, and not on the martial art aspect anymore. I make it a point to also learn techniques which would be more useful in a real fight, next to competing in matches.
2000 years ago!?!? maybe she's talking about Taekwondo's predecessor, Hwarangdo which is used for war.. then Taekwondo was developed due to the beautiful forms it project.
i see a lot of people misunderstand what is going on. First off original T.K.D. is a Military Art Created by a general. So for those that misunderstand , the kicking games is a wtf olympic sports style. The reason they recommend T.K.D. is b/c it not full contact training anymore. Notice these are little kids right. But what it does do is prepare them for further style of FMA.
@MikeMikeJr83 Further more , the reason T.K.D. became so soft is for one main reason...money! Yeah apparently people want to wear the black belt with out wearing the ass whooping. The actual form the general created was a mixture of things and made for smaller fighters, though no one see's it there are elbows, knee's,shirt grabs, throws and sweeps. For a example the all powerful ax kick really isn't just a ax kick , its a sweep behind the legs.
No, Pauline is not 18, she's 14..at least at the time of this video. But I can't get over how she looks EXACTLY like Grace Park from BSG and Hawaii 5-O !!! lol
WTF why is TKD the key focus? Pinoy fighting systems were better preserved, improved and taught by non-Filipinos.... why? Because bull like TKD has become the norm (e.g. Bruce Lee, Leo Gaje Jr.'s students/instructors)... Lapu-Lapu didn't kick Magellan to death... weapons, impact or edged are the true Filipino fighting system.
fking filipino martial arts should be mandatory, or part of school curriculum get young filipinos to learn this shit asap, makes me sad to see young flipinos getting bullied because they don't know shit about their cultural heritage and daaaaaaaammmmmmmnn! how old is she now 1.27 touch my kali stick gurl
why the fuck is tae kwon do in an FMA special? fuck this shit go to fmafocus.com and check it out, get more knowledge about origins and history about filipino martial arts.
Taekwondo and FMA are two different fighting arts. Taekwondo is a sport while FMA is a combat system, so learning Taekwondo before studying FMA will not give you any benefit nor advantage. By the way Filipinos loves fighting not only "Kicking", the instructor is clearly trying to promote his "Sport"..
no offense to tae kwon do, but it won't save you in "real life" dirty street shit fight in the Philippines with guns, knives, "indian pana" , sumpak, broken glass, flying nails, barbed wire, "ikog pagi" , etc. etc. anything is a weapon here.
don't waste your time honing impractical dance moves.
cant even speak a tagalog word, kali, escrima, arnis ARE the indigenous martial arts of the country, tkd, karate, judo, jujitsu are martial arts NOT of the country, i respect every martial arts form, simply saying what is OURS is OURS. other martial arts can complement to our art form because it is very natural and no unnatural things to study, Lapu lapu used this to magellan.
@ccpitbull There are actually similarities between jkd and filipino martial arts in the fact that they both keep essential things, and discard what is useless. For example, in a fight, it is important to disarm and disable your opponent so that they can no longer fight against you. 1 similarity is in the striking of an opponent, where the practitioner would hit like a whip or a metal ball on a chain, rather than using a solid punch, which inflicts less damage.
@25151206 I respect your comment, But they are not the same thing. All Matial arts have similarities, after all we all have 2 arms and 2 legs. The Philosiphy is the difference.
@ccpitbull Of course, they are different, in their own ways, but you must remember that jkd uses everything at the practitioners disposal in order to incapacitate the opponent. Kali and escrima also uses everything to hand in order to incapacitate the practitioners opponent. Also, you musn't forget that one of the men who was there and helped bruce lee with the formation of jkd was filipino, and also an escimador (Dan inosanto) so escrima was taken into jkd
@25151206 Very true! You know your facts about FMA and JKD which is great. It's good to have a constructive conversation on the tube. I just don't see how the Tae Kwan Do is related to FMA. Any way, I was fortunate enough to participate in a 6 hour seminar with The Guru Dan himself dow here in Australia. What a man!! Peace to the Arts cc
@ccpitbull there are a few similarities between tkd and fma, especially in some of the kicking techniques. I know it can be hard to see, because fma is more concentrated on hand to hand and weapon combat, but there are som pretty impressive kicks in fma, too, which I've recently found out about.
WTF = crappy, only kicking. ITF = kick ass, kicking and PUNCHING!!! WTF organization diluted TaeKwonDo. Old TaeKwonDo styles were used by Korean troops for killing. Now patty cake.
no offence to all you haters that be commenting on this, but your criticizing one of the best martial arts schools in southern california. not just taekwondo, but one of THE BEST MARTIAL ART SCHOOL. which means all of them. Master Dean Vargas has been doing taekwondo for the majority of his life. he knows where martial arts must begin, a good foundation of kicking and punching, leading to taekwondo and from there continuing onto more advanced and intense forms of taekwondo and other marial arts.
it was all going so well for FMA until jack in the box here started promoting Tae Kwon Do... Totally Knocked Down... ugh* its an FMA special not a tkd special.. fuck this show.. it was very disappointing.. first 2 clips were great until this clip came in.. this shouldnt evn be in the segment.. FMA PERIOD.. titles Filiipno Martial Arts Special not Totally knocked Down special grrrr fucking crab mentality
@MaharlikaAWA that's true taekwondo started when japan occupied korea and japan shared karate to them and some guy just made taekwondo that's why taekwondo and karate are similar
@MultiRob6 Some guy did not just make taekwondo. Taekwondo was made by multiple people in agreement to koreanize a combat system for themselves. basically koreanize karate and make it better was their goal. (It didnt necessarily happen in every case) there were 9 original schools of martial arts in Korea that banded together to create Taekwondo. This was in 1955. Also Taekwondo has all the hot chicks. Filipino babes a lot of times like Taekwondo.
you don't need another art before studying FMA. you can simply start with FMA. besides, FMA and taekwondo don't go together: FMA is about survival, TKD, bluntly, is about scoring points.
and to walter vargas, you're aware that Filipinos have Yaw Yan, why do you continue to promote TKD? further, TKD doesn't "click really well" with Filipinos: Pinoys, in general, are more comfortable with weapons, not with bare feet.
Where do they begin? (you asked) And you said Taekwondo., What the heck is wrong with u? Your response should be "Filipino Martial Arts" all the way. Look at your title Filipino Martial Arts Special,,, and you're promoting taekwondo,,, shame on you vargas, not to mention that pinay hosting the show...
I am very much disappointed with this special. Filipino Martial Arts is a complete martial arts and there is no need to train in any other style of martial arts to be a successful Filipino Martial Artist. In fact, as an instructor, tae kwon do practitioners have a hurdle they have to overcome that takes many years to overcome.
I respect any form of Martial Art. But I just can't get into one that leaves your hands down at your hips the entire time.
