Nightwish doesn't have a specific song style. They've been consistently changing in their musical and vocal style. They haven't done anything remotely operatic since Wishmaster. There is no fucking opera on Once.

Are you implying that "Wish I Had an Angel" is even remotely classical, either in vocals or the instrumental side? That song sounded more like Turmion Katilot (Finnish industrial rock/electronic music band) rather than, say, Therion. It's one of the least classically-oriented things Nightwish has done, and perhaps the least passionate too.
Tarja did not make it look classical. Remove her vocals and you'd get something nearly identical to Turmion Katilot or Rammstein. Add Tarja, and it sounds like a slightly more ballsy and less electronic version of Theatre of Tragedy's industrial/electronic stuff, or even electronic pop music involving male and female vocals!

My Winter Storm is not a metal album. It sounds rather like a mixture of Enya, Sarah Brightman, and a bit of The Gathering thrown in for good measure. While not terrible, it's pretty much a pop/rock/new-age sort of album as opposed to a metal one, or even a pure rock one.
It there was anyone who "combined" metal and "opera", it was Tuomas who decided to play metal and wrote all of the fucking melodies for Tarja to sing in the only style that she can sing - classical.

Wish I had an Angel does not need classical vocals and Tarja does it in a lot more mainstream style. And in case of live performances, Tarja didn't really get this song right.

Nightwish doesn't have a specific song style. They've been consistently changing in their musical and vocal style. They haven't done anything remotely operatic since Wishmaster. There is no fucking opera on Once.
Anette is no pop singer, you moron. She is fronting a metal band. TARJA is a pop singer, you know why? Because she just released a fucking pop album.

Nightwish didn't change their style, you stubborn fuck wit. They still make symphonic metal and they wrote songs for the same type of vocals as they did on Once.
The biggest problem among the intellectually challenged Tarja fans is that they never cared about the music and the changes that NW went through, they only cared about Tarja's voice, and the didn't even notice how it changed too. Fucking idiots.

When Anette joined NW, DPP had already been COMPLETELY MADE AND (instrumentally) RECORDED.
Also, DPP and Once have the same music style, and Once was made while Tarja was still in the band

Are you implying that "Wish I Had an Angel" is even remotely classical, either in vocals or the instrumental side? That song sounded more like Turmion Katilot (Finnish industrial rock/electronic music band) rather than, say, Therion. It's one of the least classically-oriented things Nightwish has done, and perhaps the least passionate too.

Tarja did not make it look classical. Remove her vocals and you'd get something nearly identical to Turmion Katilot or Rammstein. Add Tarja, and it sounds like a slightly more ballsy and less electronic version of Theatre of Tragedy's industrial/electronic stuff, or even electronic pop music involving male and female vocals!

Tarja's voice never combined metal and opera because metal was played by the instruments and Tarja never sang opera in her life.
I do not compare Tarja to Anette, only the retarded Tarja fans do. Anette's technique is better than Tarja's on many levels because Tarja was only good when NW had the classical vocal direction. After the album Wishmaster Tarja started sounded like shit.
She performed this sang "excessively well" because it was written for her. Anette sings it well to.

Tarja said herself that she is not an opera singer and did not finish any studies she had in opera because she was pre-occupied with Nightwish. She has never sang in an opera and is merely a classical singer.
My Winter Storm is not a metal album. It sounds rather like a mixture of Enya, Sarah Brightman, and a bit of The Gathering thrown in for good measure. While not terrible, it's pretty much a pop/rock/new-age sort of album as opposed to a metal one, or even a pure rock one.

Okay i don't consider myself a big fan of nightwish but i like the band and their music very much. about the new vocalist... well, i liked more tarja... i think that her voice was more suitable for the type of music the band make. her voice has that powerfull i-dont-know-what that it's needed in this songs. however, annette is not a bad singer. their voices're way too diffent.
anyway i still like nightwish :D

yeah... Annette's way better. Her voice is much better. At first, I thought she was younger because of their voice differences XD but then my friend told me that Tarja is younger... Tarja sings more like an old woman singing opera. Don't get me wrong, I still love Tarja, and she has an amazing voice, but that's just how I'd describe it :P

Singing in the classical style is not
"more difficult" than in the "normal" style aka belting. Actually, reaching high notes with the classical way of singing is a lot easier than with belting. Wish I had an Angel does not need classical vocals and Tarja does it in a lot more mainstream style. And in case of live performances, Tarja didn't really get this song right.
