That is so cute! I thought canaries were always yellow. But he apparently fits his name. Lol I'd love to have a bird, but right now my wayward lifestyle won't allow me to have any pets.
lets put it this way i had a bird who would not fly i had him since he was born cause my uncle had to many he bred canaries mine was yellow with red tint on his face and his cheeks but when he was ready to fly we tried teaching him but he just would not fly inside or out side it was really weird he was very weird then one day we decided maybe he would fly if he got a treat we tried it didnt work he was 6 years old before he flew when he was 7 he died in his sleep R.I.P my little friend
He just asking , im thinking of getting a bird czo i love them but im afirad that when i let them out like the cute bird in the vid, maybe he will fly away and never come back. So how do you prevent birds from flying like the bird in the vid? How do you train them not to fly out? Any reply will be appreaciated, thank you
@Ufcprofighter we just close the door and windows and let him fly around downstairs. At first he was really scared of us and we had to chase him around and catch him to put him back in his cage, but now he flies freely and when he need to eat, drink, or use the bathroom, the cage door is always open, he just flies back in.
Ever since I got budgies, I've known angry bird noises, happy, sad, depressed, lonely, and hurt noises. These have helped me understand wild bird sounds, too. Also your canary. Your bird is clearly very happy because he puffed himself up and exploded while he was singing:)
What a cute little fellow! I don't think I've seen a red factor so bright before! It's nice to see that you let him out of his cage as well, it's a nice treat to birds who spend most of their time in cages because they arn't 'hand tamed'
@MrRulezor Although feeding the parrents of any pet is essential on the babies' health, it really doesn't effect the colour. This is what is called a Red Factor canary, and just like different coloured cockatiels, it is a mutation in the genes.
Red factors are actually not genetic mutations, they were originally obtained through breeding canaries with other finches. The finch used was a Venezuelan Black-Hooded Red Siskin, the type of canary unknown. The offspring then were bred back to canaries. Genetically, modern red factors are around 98-99% Canary and 1-2% siskin. However, despite this they are considered canaries.
Hybridisation and genetic mutation are two different things.
@tambostorm I will say that I was incorrect to say that red factors is a 'mutation', you are right in that red factors were made from hybridisation many generations ago. Either way, the red colour comes from the red colouration genome that is taken from the Black-hooded red Siskis and is not a normal canary gene. I guess my explintation was just to say that feeding the canaries sertain foods will not make them bright red, but just like flamingos it came make their colours more vibrant
Colour feeding can brighten a bird. In red factors, just like siskins, they tend to dull unless they receive a diet high in canthaxanthin, Beta-Carotene, and other 'orange' carotenoids. Although I don't recommend feeding carotenoid supplements (as their knows to be full of things that are not healthy for the bird) A diet high in natural carotenoid will darken red plumage on the next moult. The carotenoids need to be present when the feathers are formed to be incorporated into them.
Birds only make a limited amount of pigment, so supplementing them with more will allow more to be deposited into the plumage. Genetics also play a role here, as colour genes will control how much pigment is deposited. Therefore a canary with the gene for little pigment (a yellow) will not darken no matter how much pigment you give it. A bird with the genetic capability to deposit large amounts of pigment (a red factor) will use that extra pigment. So less supplied pigment means pale.
What an Incredible Color!!!! I wish I could let my budgies out of their cage. They always run into walls when I do, I'm afraid they are going to get hurt.
I wan a canary but my mom smokes in the house so a bird wouldn't be able to live here with their delicate respiratory systems. I'll have to wait until I live in my own place :)
Why don't you just keep it in your room with the door closed and ask your mother please not to smoke if she has to come in? I'm sure it would be no trouble. :)
I am 19 and live at home, my mother and I are both smokers and I have two very happy, very healthy parakeets. Parakeets are VERY sensitive to smoke and so I keep them in my room and simply insist that my room is non smoking area. No problems.
dear.. i've been a canary owner since 3 years at least i've had many canaries many pairs many clutches and many chicks and i'm a heavy smoker myself... they're not as delicate as u think they are... get one and enjoy their beautiful singing... if u'r in the states or canada i recommend getting a roller or an american singer at first that's of course if u'r into their song if u'r into type canaries get a persian frill or something fancy like that but they are very much difficult to breed... enjoy
@picatsoforfma> get your mom medical help to quit smoking as she's hurting everyone inside the house; second hand and 3rd hand smoke are kills or cause serious illness.
This canary is intelligent enough to know value of exercising outside the cage; we humans could learn lot from the birds.
Or maybe you should mind your own business as it's not your lungs or house.
I doubt very much that the canary is "intellegent enough to know the value of exrecise outside the cage", Mr Sarcasm. It's far more likely that being a BIRD it enjoys getting out of it's CAGE (which humans don't have) for some fun exploring. D-bag....
nice bird.I also have a new canary.I left him in my room out of cage. The problem is that many hours passed without canary go in the cage and eat and drink,so i had to try to catch it with my hands and keep it in back in cage.Iit was so difficult to catch it,and finally i catch it,was so afraid,i was so sorry. How can i teach it to go in back in the cage, without trying to catch it?
Unless you are breeding them; You have to let them know to stop pulling out feathers if they are trying to go into molt stage. Say no, and walk away. They stop. Their eating habits change as they get 3 years old. They don't eat as much or often.
Each Canary identifies with their own color. They hate the light after 9 P.M. And raises the dickens if I turn on a light after 9 P.M. LOL They love TV and music. They get chili easily and need to be covered if you have them sitting near a window or air-conditioner. more
I finally got my own Red factor Canary last year by the way. I got him in VA beach Virginia (2 hrs from me). He is awesome! Your bird, this video, was the factor, lol,,that led me to my bird....thank you so much....red factors are beautiful!!!!
i never keep my bird in his cage :) i have a playpin for him i keep ontop of his cage and he plays on it all day! Sometimes he comes to visit me on the couch or walks down my stairs to visit me when im on the computer! i have a cockateil
I used to have a female cockatiel that would get pissed if I didn't let her out lol. She'd constantly pace back and forth on her perch making the most annoying whistle lol. Especially if I had food or something, man she'd go crazy if I didn't let her eat any of my fries or chicken (she liked the breading on the chicken). I also taught her how to whistle along to some cartoon called "Ed, Edd N Eddy" lmao. Good times :P
I love to let my Canary named Twitter out, he loves to perch on high things and fly off of them, and he seems to sing louder when he's out of the cage!
don't worry, he will get back to the cage to eat. if he doesn't, you can carry the cage close to him, then you get a bit far so you don't bother the canary, and wait until he gets in the cage to eat.
I never seen brid color like this is soooo PRETTY ,i just wanna kiss him...soo pretty little fatty ,i real LOVE THE COLOR

Each Canary identifies with their own color. They hate the light after 9 P.M. And raises the dickens if I turn on a light after 9 P.M. LOL They love TV and music. They get chili easily and need to be covered if you have them sitting near a window or air-conditioner. more

I love to let my Canary named Twitter out, he loves to perch on high things and fly off of them, and he seems to sing louder when he's out of the cage!

i want to let mine out of his cage, but i don't know if i'll be able to get him back in. has yours ever been a hassle to get back in the cage?
chris11689 2 years ago
don't worry, he will get back to the cage to eat. if he doesn't, you can carry the cage close to him, then you get a bit far so you don't bother the canary, and wait until he gets in the cage to eat.
