This song is a reflection of the time it was written of a reactionary Tory Government causing economic; social & political chaos and Nazis NF on the streets stirring up racial hatred and bigotry
Today we have? A reactionary Tory Government causing economic; social & political chaos and Nazis BNP + EDL on the streets stirring up racial hatred and bigotry, which makes this still sadly all too relevant.
Wait for 5 years to do anything about either and we will quite literally reap the whirlwind.
When it was written Callaghan had still a year to run in office before his disastrous campaign in May 79. However, we were aware of a storm brewing with Keith Joseph's public pronouncements .

Saw TRB at the Armadillo when they were touring for this album. got invited to the after party but was too wrecked by the time Tom arrived to say more than "Hey...?!" I was trying to remain reasonably sober so that I could, er, 'meet' Tom, but they were late. Ah. Ausin: the Good Ole Days. Re: Sweetfan 78; you are right! Never really put my finger on that b4
Blair and Brown screwed us all over. Tea party for all except for the white middle class Gay or Not.. Dont scream about the Tory's they will bring themselves down in five years.
Tom you are the bomb babe......Loved your songs all the way from Sunderland down to the south of France ....absolutly loved meeting you too.....Muwah!!
Saw the guys at the old Glasgow Apollo, my first real gig...Awesome. Sang along to it all and felt I'd earned part of my left wing credentials! Since then, what? The demise of class politics, thatcher triumphant, new labour and the Iraq fiasco.
Are things better? Is the Uk a better place than it was then? Yes and no, I guess.
Great band tho i'm not gay either i naively assumed they were a gay band when i was 15 in '78 but tho i dont care anyway it turned out that ONLY Tom was gay out of the four & he's been married years now to the same woman & theyve got their own teenage kids !! Shows those were still the dark ages for some things !!
How d'ya mean ? ; not heard which one ? ; bout Robinsons MARRIAGE & kids or TBR other members being straight ?. On both counts red definitely and unequivocally if thats what you meant
Interesting take on Moondance. The rhythm is nearly spot on and the guitar solo is the vocal line. TRB definitely peaked with 2468 Motorway, and THAT solo is sweet compared to this derivative crap.
@Sweetfan78 eggzacly! thanks for reminding me the song I was trying to rembember! That's Van Morrison's alright! still a good song, though... but I guess it aint't too good to be unique! lol
When I was 17, I traded Springsteen's "The River" for TRB's album. Still have it, and will never regret that transaction. Kustow's guitar work was genius, and still rings true today, fuck everybody else, TRB is timeless..

You've got it back to front - the far right do well when Labour are in power not the Tories. The BNP are imploding.

TRB were an immensely underated rock band that were'nt around long enough.
This song has a very similar rythem 'n melody to Van Morrison's Moondance

@gingerology,
My first listen to this song. I agree - a very understated and precise solo.
