My dad had one of these only jade green and a manual transmission. No shaker or spoiler. It was a demo car that somehow ended up with the 428 SCJ motor. He thought it was too much motor for the car. He broke the rear end shackle twice and blew apart second gear syncro. After that the dealership cut his warranty card up and threw it away. lol Beautiful car.
Nice car.. I wish my uncle had kept his, he just sold it a few years ago. He had a 69 Mach 1, black, rear louvre's, spoiler, shaker hood SCJ 428 4 speed with drag pack 4.30 gears. Car only had 19,000 original miles on it, and a couple from canada basically stole the car from him..
Skip the all show "burnout" shit, feather the throttle out of the hole and make it accelerate as fast as it can. With that meager showing getting 2nd it's not like the rubber does not hook for the power on hand
@kjfordracing55: And the 429/460 was the 385 series. The only difference between the 429/460 was the crank (stroke)! Same block so everything is interchangable.
nice Mach 1! It reminds me of my dad's Im going to get a new shell from Dynocorn and put the new Romeo 5.4L supercharged V8 in it with a Height's Independent Rear Suspension
The '69 - '70 Mustangs have narrower engine compartments than the '71 - '73's and even the '79 - '93's, which are wider than the other 2 generations! This surprised me. I measured all 3 of those gen's.
My '72 Fastback is pretty easy to get at the plugs though, both with a 351-C or a 460, which is now has. The '69 - '70's are the best looking generation, but they suck to work on sometimes. My '72 is a breeze by comparison.
I believe that this particular mustang is the famous "R" code if correct and these are very rare and will bring six figures easily. My dad recently performed a frame-off resto on one similar to this one. The man shipped it all the way from California... and we live in North Carolina. I guess word travels far!
BEAUTIFUL CAR!!!!! I have a 69 Grande. Love driving it even with only the 2-bbl 351. I can't even imagine it with over 100 more horses and lb-ft of torque.
Power Braking keeps you from dumping the clutch at high rpm and breaking something in the driveline. Besides a 428CJ with almost 400 ft lb of torque really doesnt need a power brake anyway.
ALMOST 400 ft lb of torque? Dude, Cobra Jets came with a minimum of 440 pure stock - and this one does not sound pure stock. Its probably pushing closer to 500 ft-lb than 400.
I have 69 silver jade 428-CJ mach-1. I strongely suggest you replace those crappy polyglas tires for T/A radials for better traction and for safety. I did and what a difference!!
Good move. If I had room in the garage, I would've done the same. I have manual steering on my CJ. Much easier to turn with radials than Polygas. Thanks for the video brother CJ :)
I stumbled on my '69 in Texas, bought it for $1550 with no drivetrain, interior & needed restored. She's rust free & is a rolling shell with the dash & steering column. When I was bringing it home, my cousin ran the numbers & called me & said I had a Drag Pack car. 428CJ, 4spd, 4.30 gears, red exterior & black interior. I pulled over looked at the sky & thanked god for my dream come true, kissed my Mach 1 & said I luv ya baby! Oh, by the way. She ain't for sale until I die! Good luck.....
my dad had a 351 shaker too. but he totaled it 6 months after he got it in 1970. hydroplaned and hit a tree doin about 50. the shakers are rare cars.. well any '69 thats still in one piece is a rare car. i just wish i could afford a mach!
my dads sucked in water in the block in 81 i think. most likely cuz a mechanic pinched the shaker drain hose right before a 3day rainstorm-had to drain the carb. not the guys fault tho. but its finally gettin back in running condition real soon.
Awesome, I'm putting a '69 fastback together now. It's silver and I got a Tremec 3550 and a 3:50 gear in the rear.
