The older market still buy cd's and their are still a few artists that release singles on cd. the whole business model has changed .It is a revolution .
no1 uses cds anymore.. its all youtube and burnt cds wen in the car. unless they put down the price of cds ppl are just going to keep getting people to burn them at 1/20th of the cost
i know this dude is a boss but why not just have the labels start their own channels and sell their channels to the cable companies. That way the record companies have an interest in signing a multitude of hot artist across all genres. Still provides the music controls the product the price the content and its distribution, plus its like what flavor do you want stax records or sony who has the hottest artist. It makes it where the roster is as important as it ever was.
Is it true that it's easier to become president of the United States than it is to become a female rapper? Is it true that you and other major labels refuse to give female rappers the same opportunity that you give to male artist. SHAME ON YOU..SHAME SHAME SHAME.....
Alot of talk of publishing deals and such...these are not easy to get and only reason I got one is due to me working for Chuck D and the label feeling that if I can get him to promote and commit they can make some money using his status to sale the work ( produced by others ) It becomes less creative and more political
So your right sir No one knows what to buy or more specificly consumer are kinda told what to buy.
The Economic climate does affect the bottom line and companies need to do what works but in that the doors open to new music seems closed...and anyone that tries a new way of doing that can work gets shut down. So we are now subject to the labels if we want any real deal.
In continuation of my last post ...Now if we go to best buy or any large chain no one knows me therefore dont know what I like and cant lead me to any new music. So we lean to what ever to played over and over and assume we want that then realise we really wanted something new.

The dependant artist is desperate for a way to get air play!
Someone has to figure out a way to be heard, if you can hear it you can choose to purchase.

The reason no one knows what to buy is due to the homogenization and lack of cultrue that was removed when the small record stores was eliminated.
there was a relationship between the retailer and the consumer the consumer trusted what the person at the retail store recommended.
