@ijackgriffin They actually didn't. The original versions of Pirates had two finales - a reprise of "Poor Wandering Ones" (UK) and a reprise of the Major General's Song (US.) Jo Papp's version in the 80s contains both finales.
Call me a romantic idiot, but with the music and all, even within the context of the whole piece's silliness, or perhaps because of it, I found 4:20-5:10 really moving.
I don't know if it's really you (How could one prove it?!), but if it IS, then you, sir, have made my day. I saw that production twice in the theatre, and both times the man in the kilt was the show stealer (and given that the lead was Jon English, that's really saying something!). :)
@KatellaGate I don't if anybody has responded to your comments but here goes all these months later. Jon English who plays the pirates is in fact a Australian rocker from the 70's and 80's who was nick named o'l Black Eyes. When got older he shifted to a bit of musical theatre for a lark. He was in Australian version of Pirates of Penzance, HMS Pinafore and Mikado.
@lauraslifeisadance The "With Base Deceit" section (the part your talking about) has been seriously rocked up for thhis version. Although the new one's catchy, I prefer the old one.
i love love love the rock styles that are incorperated into this. it reminds me a little bit of Tommy, lol. this is deffo one of my favorite musicals of all time! <333
lol saw this on dvd!!!! almost wet my pants laughing!!!!!! I like it when the claps when everything just stops, then Jon English says "we haven't finished yet!" lol
Definatly not 100% like the one we are doing at the Middle School i go too. But i reconize alot of it :D one of the teachers thought my choir teacher was insane for trying this out on middle schoolers
Tried out for pirate king. I wont no til next week. THEY TOLD ME TO SING HIGH NOTES! I may be a girl, but its an easier version! SO HE WONT SING HIGH NOTES ANYWAYS!

Completely agree, this version is CRAP! Hate the rock drum beats and and the demolition of the fourth wall. There are just way too many terrible things about this production.
I've seen this Australian company doing this, Mikado and Pinafore, but sadly only on Tele - they are SUPERB and match anything I've seen at the Coliseum. I wish they would come to the UK.
And anyone who is interested in expanding the audience for live theater would not be rude (and you WERE being rude to Violins1345) to someone who wanted to increase their knowledge. What is obvious to you may not be obvious to everyone.
I'm part of the Pirates chorus at our school :-) We perform this in less than two weeks. I actually just got back from a full rehearsal today-- It's looking great.
Actually: Our finale fight-scene has the strobe-light just like this:-)
