  • What part did Simon Gallaher play in this one?

  • @papaknowsbest16 I think he was Fredrick, but don't take my word for it.

  • Oh how I love Pirates of Penzance :D

  • I love the rock section in this. I always get angry with him.

  • @ijackgriffin They actually didn't. The original versions of Pirates had two finales - a reprise of "Poor Wandering Ones" (UK) and a reprise of the Major General's Song (US.) Jo Papp's version in the 80s contains both finales.

But yes, I see where you're coming from.

  • I was so lucky to see this very production in the mid-80's in Sydney when it was on at the old Regent Theatre on George Street.

R.I.P. Regent, old girl .... you are sadly missed.

  • my school is peforming this, its a pretty kool show

  • This is one of my fav musicals and im mabel :)

  • Best musical EVER!

  • I love how the Seargeant (yeah I don't know how to spell it) screws up when the lights come on. It makes it even funnier! XD

  • Call me a romantic idiot, but with the music and all, even within the context of the whole piece's silliness, or perhaps because of it, I found 4:20-5:10 really moving.

  • @CaballeroCatalan Right on! And never be ashamed to say so!

  • ha ha ha the conductors head at 2:24

  • LOLLL, when they turn the strobe lights on and the pirates and policemen start partying together XD

  • Wait, thespians? That rhymes with... Presbyterians. Let's go with that. XD

  • What's with the kilt?

  • @luvpalominos I was the guy in the kilt. It was written into my contract that I must wear a kilt and nay breeks. Did any of you see my little caber?

  • @spamount028

Just last night and I thought you were really cute...

  • @spamount028 I did and thought you were really cute

  • @spamount028 Derek Metzger, is that you?

  • @spamount028

I don't know if it's really you (How could one prove it?!), but if it IS, then you, sir, have made my day. I saw that production twice in the theatre, and both times the man in the kilt was the show stealer (and given that the lead was Jon English, that's really saying something!). :)

  • Listen to the Pirate King totally rock out at 1:12. Damn, that was good!

  • @KatellaGate I don't if anybody has responded to your comments but here goes all these months later. Jon English who plays the pirates is in fact a Australian rocker from the 70's and 80's who was nick named o'l Black Eyes. When got older he shifted to a bit of musical theatre for a lark. He was in Australian version of Pirates of Penzance, HMS Pinafore and Mikado.

  • "all of whom...are Presbyterians" xDD

  • @yunaai please explane

  • 6:29 - 6:41 LOL

  • I AM A BOBBY!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Best Version of Pirates...Ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And I'm pretty sure in this finale 1 minute 6 until 1 minute 36 is like my favorite part in the entire show!!!!! <3

  • @lauraslifeisadance The "With Base Deceit" section (the part your talking about) has been seriously rocked up for thhis version. Although the new one's catchy, I prefer the old one.

  • i love love love the rock styles that are incorperated into this. it reminds me a little bit of Tommy, lol. this is deffo one of my favorite musicals of all time! <333

  • I <3 PK!

  • I want the dvd of this so much!

This is, without a doubt, my favourite production of The Pirates Of Penzance!

  • lol saw this on dvd!!!! almost wet my pants laughing!!!!!! I like it when the claps when everything just stops, then Jon English says "we haven't finished yet!" lol

  • lol love the pirate king!

  • I almost cried from 4:30-4:50....

-This is the greatest production of the greatest comedy musical of its era...

  • wow.... the immaturity of some people is beyond comprehensibility these days...

  • that makes no sense... grow up

  • Presbyterians XDDDDDDDDDDD

  • OMG that was so cool when the lights were flashing like that!!!!

  • Well... that was an interesting randition haha

  • Definatly not 100% like the one we are doing at the Middle School i go too. But i reconize alot of it :D one of the teachers thought my choir teacher was insane for trying this out on middle schoolers

  • I have to do this play to it's so funny but i'm so glad to be a pirate in it

  • i have to do this play too and i'm the sergeant

  • We're doing this play at school...god, I never knew Isabel's hair was so ugly!!!!....

  • We are too in a few months

Tried out for pirate king. I wont no til next week. THEY TOLD ME TO SING HIGH NOTES! I may be a girl, but its an easier version! SO HE WONT SING HIGH NOTES ANYWAYS!

  • Heh, I was a pirate in my schools production a few years back.

Really fun play to be a part of.

Once you hear the reactions from the crowd, you can improvise a lot of fun stuff, like you saw with the bent sword :P

  • wow

    that orchestra is amazing!

  • "i'm so glad you're not thespians, so take my daughters, all of whom are presbyterians" lol hilarious!

  • This is great, love the libbing. I'm doing this is a few weeks, rehearsals are going great it's all coming together. Hope it's as good as this!

  • the hole point of this peformans is to show all the funy things in pirates in Penzance but inhanced so you can see them more clearly. also the actors and actoress are having fun and enjoying themselves which might be why it is so different to the other preformances.

  • I've seen this Australian company doing this, Mikado and Pinafore, but sadly only on Tele - they are SUPERB and match anything I've seen at the Coliseum. I wish they would come to the UK.

  • We are doing this at my school. It doesn't sound as good as thsi

  • This production is absolutely amazing. If you haven't seen the whole thing, you should.

  • where did they get the hats and umbrellas??..

  • It's called going back stage to the prop room

  • no need 2 be so rude... it is just a question

  • I'm not being rude XD. Anyone that has had experience in theatre would know to answer that themselves.

  • still.. u think u rnt but u kind of r

  • And anyone who is interested in expanding the audience for live theater would not be rude (and you WERE being rude to Violins1345) to someone who wanted to increase their knowledge. What is obvious to you may not be obvious to everyone.

  • Ruth looks really strange...

  • Jon English rules

  • A sweet ending

    To an even sweeter play

(They should really perform this next year at my school)

    :D

  • really true!!

  • I'm part of the Pirates chorus at our school :-) We perform this in less than two weeks. I actually just got back from a full rehearsal today-- It's looking great.

Actually: Our finale fight-scene has the strobe-light just like this:-)

  • my brother was the lead cop

  • This show was done in Australia in 94 and opened in Brisbane, toured around and then returned to Brisbane to be filmed at the lyric theatre for ABC TV it was the highest rating show when screened on Tv a few mths later and broke DVD sales when released.

  • good luck willmart96, b the very model of a modern major general!

  • thank you i did really good and so did my sister (mabel) i had 2 performances yesterday and i have 1 at 7:30 tonight!!!

  • im the mexican pirate from the blink 182 song

  • where is that bit???

  • soz meant to post that ^^^ comment to ask where the bit is where the pirate king says 'more noise'

  • No way.

    This is amazing.

    Hahah

    I love the lights.

  • this ending is absoloutly awsome!!!!

  • I luv the strobe lights on this. Awesome production!!

  • my school recently did a production of this, it wasnt quite as good as this; but fredrick wasnt such a bender

  • my school did a production of pirates of penzance last year... it was way better then this.

  • I highly doubt your school did a better production than the Queensland Theater Company in Australia. For one your school's budget is nowhere near what a national theater company has. Granted your school may have done a good production, but come on lets be serious

  • actually, we got a huge donation from the Gilbert and Sullivan society. you'd be surprised.

and money isnt everything you know.

  • Have you even seen some of the school productions posted here? Granted they may be working with risers and cardboard, but more than a few are better interpreted than this was. I for one can't seem to sink my teeth into this production. Far too flamboyant, not enough tongue-in-cheek.

  • this is my favourite production of pirates...jon english is hilarious as the pirate king, with cat like tred is unbelievable! maybe it appeals most to aussies like myself??

  • I loved it and I'm American! :)

  • why cant an american like G&S?

  • I'm Canadian, we're both British colonies

  • Watch out for the sister tweaking the pirate's nipples! It's during the "Oh spare us" part. Absolute gold.

  • She didnt' tweak his nipples she scratched down his chest.

  • bow-chicka-ow-wow

  • I want to have seen this show... sniff...

  • You know that's not the original line, right? It's duties rhymed with beauties...it's a joke off of a joke made in "An Orphan Boy" again unique to this production.

  • fINALLY someone else who gets the jokes for this one show...like no one else does

  • I cannot believe they put implied rhymes like that at 6.30-6.42 in a proper production. love it.

  • boo!

  • dude whats ur problem?!? seriously

  • I love how the police chief goes into the pirate king's hand and the look on his face when he gets him. XD Very amusing version.

  • This is a kind of a scene from The Little Mermaid Where

Ursula Kidnap Ariel and sent the bet for The SeaKing

  • no, before this is sighing softly to the river, before that is cat like tread

  • the bit before this is cat like tread, i believe.

  • whats the bit before this?

  • i think the "more Noise" bit was shouted by pirate king lol

  • I like your video clip and have rated it as awesome. Please check out mine on some old trading cards of famous people: Gilbert and Sullivan, Lord Baden-Powell of the scout movement, Winston Churchill, Louis Armstrong, Charlie Chaplin, Yuri Gagarin, Walt Disney....

  • Its funny cause if you listen during the fight bit, you can hear a faint, "more noise" yelled out from the stage... its funny

  • gr8

  • brilliant
