  • I paid £20 a lesson a week for a teacher that screwed me around.

I watch you, and in an hour I'm playing almost all of Sweet Home Alabama.

Thank you, man. You've seriously helped me.

  • what were the three chords at the end??

  • damnit i keep getting distracted by reading that comment by altruisticpervert...ok focus!!

  • thnks justin, more power 2u, learned a lot from u like pro. solo is clear n easy to understand. you r a good teacher. i'm from fullerton, calif.

  • Justin, thanks a bunch mate! I've only being playing for 8 months and your helping play like ive been playing for years. God bless bro..

  • thnx alot for ur time of teaching this song.. and i agree with ferinos1991

  • A really great lesson. Thanks for your time, Justin.

  • wow dude your great

  • Good lesson matey =)

  • dude awesome but can you give a lesson on the solo as well

  • i dont get what to do for 0:59-1:00 :(

  • @Deput1 just strum the G chord

    3

    2

    0

  • good little lesson, but there are fill-ins in every line of verses, basically they just switch back and forth from, open A string, 2 fret A string, open D, 2 fret D, 2nd fret D, open D, 2 fret G string, open G, then the riff you played by the chorus, maybe you already knew that, but just helpin out

  • Free Bird!!

    please :)

  • dude your vids really helpled me! thatnks a lot dude. hey upload the solo!!!

  • Hey J great lesson for a timeless song! I was wondering if you could finish off the song by doing a lesson on the solos!

    Thanks, Great lessons

  • Well explained. It is good that you sing when you play, then we can hear on which part we are

  • Thank you very much. I can play it now :)

  • hello Justin, I want to say thank you for your lessons ... Even i register because of this to youtube :) my cash flow is very bad i have only guitar and bed and this internet school of guitar so i cant help you ... but this is only way to say thank you.. .:) THANK YOU

  • possibly sometime you would jam 'don't ask me no questions' or maybe 'curtis lowe' or the 'redneck national anthem' aka free bird

  • dude, your awsome!!!

now do a solo bit to make it complete!!!!

ty anyway for the other songs, helped me alot

  • If you watch the various guitarists in the Lynrd Skynrd band over the years, they all play it slightly different. Justin's way is the closest on that riff. For proof watch Greg Koch play it the same way on YouTube or get his DVD.

    Ken, Toronto

  • justin, are you gonna make a vid teaching the solo?

  • Tabs or chords pleaz ?

  • thanks

  • I learned wish you were here from your other video but this lesson moves fast. Ill try and keep up. How many guitars do you have?

  • hey dude! thanx 4 the lessons. it realyl hellped.

    God bless

  • how do you play the little rock and roll thing at 4:53

  • What kind of C do you play at the end of the chorus?

  • Nice lesson.

he always sits on the floor.i cant play like that,my feet will fall asleep.^^

  • Congratulations... Red from Brasil... Perfect my friend.

  • Thank you for the ideas. Matthias

  • you have got to make part 3!! great lesson

  • at about 4:00 it seems that what you are doing on the guitar does not correspond with what i'm hearing. look into please, or someone correct me. other than that fantastic job man. one last thing; could u please make a lesson for the solos!! would be awesome.

  • yes that us what he's saying

  • @TheBestRapAndHipHop It's the bass note. Basically, the lowest string of the chord twice, then the whole chord. The bass note is the lowest note of the chord.

  • @trailblazer225

    so you mean E-E-B-G? 6-6-2-3?

Sorry im such a noob :P

But I dont take classes I just got an electric guitar and I manage this song. I just dont understand some of the phrases he uses :P

  • @TheBestRapAndHipHop No problem. Been there done that. : ) Basically, you play the sixth string, the string twice, then strum the whole G chord, all of the strings. I hope that helped. : P

  • u gotta teach that thing u at 4:43

i like that riff better than this song haha

  • thanks bro..

i learn this only about 1 hour..

now i can completely play this song..

  • tanx mate!

  • Justin, are all these lessons you give on YouTube available on DVD in the UK ?

  • I am a devout follower of your lessons, but I must admit I think this tab is a little off. Just on the bridge

  • thanks this didnt help so much at first i got confused but second time i watched it it started making sense hehe. thanks man really helpful

  • Fantastic mate, just bought my first electric, nearly got this down, is there any chance you could do a vid for learning Life's been good by Joe Walsh, i reckon you could do a good one, there isn't a decent enough one on youtube to learn from, i.e. for beginners.

  • thank you

  • how do you do the rock and roll thing at 4;55

    Please text back

  • You are amazing... from what i've learnt off the past 2 lessons, i've played to 450 people :)

    Cheers

  • your the best guitar teacher on youtube ( THUMBS UP ) (Y)

  • great lesson,learned a lot.

  • Is It In Standard Tuning?

  • yes

  • yes it is =)

  • yup

  • Awesome job mate! I like the tone of your guitat also the way you teach.I would love to learn the 1st and 2nd solo.

    Joe.

  • You are the best

  • I gotta admit, I thought it was sorta funny too.

Hella props for the lesson tho', great job.

  • like it if you could get the solo down i have almost got there and want to learn it and everyone always goes too fast!

  • Thank you so much, .I am a beginner at playing lead guitar and your lesson's are a treasure to me..I will spread the word about your site and hopefully you will be rewarded for your servos .

  • you are an amazing teacher

can you teach us crazy train please

  • wow..cheers. Your Videos Are REALLY Helpful and Your A Good Teacher..I learnt this song just with your lessons and it sounds great. thanks.

  • may i ask what guitar is that?

  • Working on the basis that if it looks like a horse, smells like a horse etc I would stick my neck out and say that it is a fender stratocaster

  • i dunno....it might be a zebra O.o

  • Different joke.... That's the one that goes, What's black and white and smells like a horse ?

  • haha well i've heard many versions of the joke, always funny though, and yeah i reckon it's a strato too

  • hey your first 2 videos of this song was the best one i have every saw and i can play it really good now so thanks

  • I suck at guitar and YOUR VIDEOS made me a star. You have great patience and YOU are a natural teacher.Good Luck.

  • You play it a bit different than the original studio version. I just listened it thought a couple of times slowing it down with Transcribe! and spotted many little things here and there. The chorus is also played a bit differently I think.

    Still a good lesson though.

  • Thank you for your lessons, I'm getting so tired of people using youtube to try and make money for their guitar lessons, it makes a change to see someone who wants to help others because he loves the music, NOT because he loves the money. Thank you for all your lessons.

  • @Ferinos1991 you just like the free lessons hahahaha

  • thank you verry mutch

  • Thanks, you're a good teacher. It would be great if you had tab for each part too.

  • justin: your lessons are amazing as far as youtube lessons go. make a solo lesson lol

  • thnx loads man!!

  • FYI the riff you show starting at 1.25 is incorrect. starts 1st finger 7th fret, 2nd finger 8th, 3rd finger 9th, then 1st finger Dand G strings at 7th fret back to A string 9th fret. Then hammer on A string 5th fret to seventh fret, , then 1st finger D and G string at the 5th, then A string 7th. Call me a nitpicker, but these kids wanna know the right way to play this stuff. Any doubters can find Skynard playing it on The Old Grey Whistle Test. you get a really good look at it there

  • Ok - I will pay that after watching the vid - but I get it pretty close... I'm not sure you got it quite right with what you wrote, but it's damn close... and I don't want to argue - well spotted dude. J

  • @JustinSandercoeSongs

Mate, I wouldnt worry about what he says. He mustnt have anything better to do than make himself feel grand by picking other peroples work. Your lessons are great. Real close, and sound good. I love em. Keep up the good work.

  • @JustinSandercoeSongs He is right.

  • @AltruisticPervert check out the most important guitar lesson of justin.....even if its not exactly what he does it doesnt matter it sounds great.... its great

  • What was that riff you played while you were showing the riff thats only in one part of the song? the guiar 6th theme or somethin?

  • Comment removed

  • Great help thank you very much

  • this is the best lesson that i ve seen on youtube

  • i want to have your hair!!!

  • How much distortion do you play this with ?

  • it's more of a blues distortion, so a lot less lol

he recorded straight after a Green Day lesson rofl

  • thanks u brill

  • He needs a comb..

  • Nah. That's his style. ppl dig it.

  • You're a cheeky beast.

  • What are those last 3 chords?

  • F....C...D

  • you should put some tabs out for this, then it'd be complete[unless you already have tabs] because its a very good lesson.

  • thanx

  • What is your guitar ?

  • it SEEMS to me THAT IS NOT A STRATOCASTER

  • it is but its modified with loads of different shit if you go on his website he shows you what he done

  • LMAO this made me laugh so hard haha

  • hey, what settings are you using on ur amp and guitar? I cant get my guitar to sound like that.

  • you want it clean with a bit of gain and not much treble

  • on my mg50 i use the distorted channel with as little gain as possible, and the bass, mids and treble fairly standard

  • krack

  • cool

  • i love this song. i forgot how to play it and i lost the tablature for it a while back. these videos helped me a lot. now i can rock out to one of my favorite songs again.

  • Man, I love this, its so detailed and u exsplain it so good. Could you also teach the solos?

  • could you please explain it a little slower im tryin to learn the whole song

  • just pause it

  • Thanks alot! Now I you be most greatful if you made part 3 with that solo! =)

    Thanks in advance!

  • sweet thx! this helped allot and its better then lots of others on here!

  • dang dude thx! im only begining gutiar and i can play sweet home alabama! yor really good.

  • that lesson was amazing nice one justin

  • Justin, I really enjoy watching your lessons. As a beginner I am learning a great deal from watching your videos. I am working on Sweet Home Alabama, as well as Simple Man. Can you post lessons on the first and second solos of Sweet Home Alabama?

  • dude how much money do I owe you! thanks

  • 3rd request in a row!! Pleeease could you post a video on the 2nd solo, there aren't any decent ones that I can find and yours are always the best and easiest to follow!!

  • likewise where's the part 3, i want the whole song..

  • he said in one of his videos, that he was playing Greenday before/after recording this video...i don't know, if it was before or after...

  • I have learned to play it now but i want to learn more can u please post the rest + the solo? i really wanna learn this whole song!

  • thx so much i can play it now!

  • so? what's the point it's just the technique

  • great lesson!! thanks

  • Justin, just wanted to say thank you so much for all your work, I've been learning guitar for 2 years and got in a bit of a rut just learning bits and pieces but all your videos have really helped and put the fun back into playing - I'm more enthusiastic about the guitar than ever and can't put the bloody thing down now!! Really great website also, highly recommended to any beginners/intermediates out there!! Thanks again

  • don k, the C at the end is 5th string 3rd fret with index finger, and strings 4,3 & 2 in a barre on 5th fret with ring finger. make sure you mute the 1st string with the flat of your ring finger and mute the 6th string with the tip of your index finger!

  • Thanks I've been wondering that also

  • hi,

I wonder if someone could help me out, how do I hold that C chord at the end? I am trying to figure it out but I dont know which C chord it is.

  • justin ur doing so well on all of this when i first saw ur vids i was amazed that u made that many thx for all the nlessons ur makin

  • Perferc

  • excellent dude. 5 stars and subbed.

  • for all those people who watch these videos u should know that justin is a proffesional player, he plays with bands and other musicians all over the world at concerts and gigs. hes doing this out of his own time, for nothing when he could be getting paid for private lessons so maybe some of u should bea bit more grateful

  • another great and thorough lesson from justin

note: after that first riff he teaches its nice to just cap it off with a little riff before going back into the song as u can hear on the track. just open A string, hammer on the 2nd fret then play the open D string in quick succesion.

  • thanks again man the song it was a real help

  • Man Once Again You Crushed Youve Been A Real Help

  • ur awesome i love when i want to learn a song and ur teaching it i like mojo too but u explain it better.GO JUSTIN!!!!!!

  • Justin does a great job. He simplifies it for anyone. I can't believe any of these nerds are whinging about his lessons. I bet you are all still spoon fed by mummy. Stop guts aching, if you think you can do better why don't you post your expertise or shutup and go find someone else. Go Justin, great lessons.

  • ur a fool David T!!!im 14 and i understand em perfectly u dont hav patience!!!!learn to play tamborine its a lot easier!!!!

  • Justin is definitely one of the best online guitar teachers I have come across, his videos taught how to play "Sweet Home Alabama" perfectly.

  • Hey for all you people who say Justin sucks ya should know 1 He teaches Guitar at a big school over seas and that he travels the world doing concerts and benifits. 2 this is free of his own time, don't like his style move on to something else.

  • Wrong, Davidtennent! U R crap, or perhaps just a fucking retard. Funnily enough, everyone else in the world understands Justin. He is one of the most gifted and respected Guitar tutors on the planet. Maybe you should just call it a day with the axe and give it away to someone who is prepared to invest time, dedication and PATIENCE in learning the instrument. The way Justin explains this song is so comprehensible...... p.s. Hope I haven't utilised too many big words for you here...;-)

  • Wrong, David Tennant! me ne ne ne na. MAYBE U R A FUCKIN SPAZ TWAT. Yeh course they do. HOW DO U KNOW. U just talkin for everyone else u dont actually know. I have patience i just like to be taught 4 real unlike some twats who just get songs from the internet to learn. I DO HAVE DEDICATION AND TIME. WTFDOES COMPREHINSIBLE MEQAN? btw I am 12 YEARS OLD SO FUCK U.

  • No. Your just an idiot.

    ZING!

  • no actually u r coz ZING ISNT EVEN A WORD.

  • And with 12 you should be pretty pretty smart, I'm 13.So age is shit.I have a Korean friend who plays piano, clarinet, guitar, violin and he's 13 and he's mastered both the piano and the clarinet awesomely (still workin on violin and guitar).

  • o yeah can you do a totorial for the 2nd solo,please???

  • ty so much i like all ur videos for 2 reasons.......when u talk it makes sense, you have a great camera and the best part though is that you are a great guitar player ty so much!!

  • Nice Lesson, thanks, my favorite song and now I can play it up to that point. Do you know the solos to the song aswell because that would be really helpfull to me. Thanks, please put on a part 3!

  • Great lessons! You are a really a good player...

how long did you play guitar? i since 7 mounth!! How long did it take you to be able to play at least one decent song?????

  • I love your teaching style, quick, to the point, showing ever fret hit, playing the riff or lick first then describing it and much more.... bro I gotta hand it to ya.... A+ and I learn sooooo much watching you! Never enough thanks =P Keep ROCKIN out

  • I love you <33

    Thank you so much !!!!

  • Hello Justin, Played this and Johnny B Goode for years in various bands. It's nice that I've now got it dead correct. Many thanks mate, your a star. Pete (U.K.)

  • Is the real version played with palm mute?

It does sound like it or am I wrong?

  • yah they do palm mute in the record, but when you play it live, no ones listening for a palm mute so i just play it this way...

  • Hallo ich bin aus Austria dein Video hat mir sehr weitergeholfen.

    Danke:-)

  • He recorded another video (that required such distortion) just before this one -- he stated it in his video guide to amps and distortion.

  • It is true what he says, the distortion is a bit too much. However I think its cool and its free anyway so don't blame him but donate him!

  • but u get the idea :P

  • in my opinion the best guitar tool ever is guitar pro 5. just to try and help anyone trying to learn songs. buy it or get it with other means it is great

  • THIS VID HELPED ME SO MUCH THANX MAN XD
