punk is about attitude and no band had more attitude then duce and his fellow perverts. GG Allin may have been crazier, but Duce's music was ballsier and way funnier.
first time I seen these guys was in 81 at the tool and die in SF, Cro-mags gigged with them in 85 or 86 in NJ ,sick guitarist, El Duce Crazy fucker love those crazy fucking wierd back up vocals what a bunch of freaks, great guitarist especially for back then,
I've read on one punk blog that the Mentors embracing Metal over Rock to hybrid their sound was a bad idea. Another close minded Punk knocking the metal fans and segment of music. It's all one variation on Rock Music, and The Mentors seem as instrumental in the genres as The Ramones, considering their 1970s formation. Along with Maiden and Motorhead, in fact.
@MetallicBill Broy noted on one of the early online newsgroups back in the mid-90's something to the effect of "We try to sound like KISS, but some people say we're punk rock." Immediately some jackass (who didn't even know who the Mentors were) jumped on "KISS sucks! We hate metal! F*** off!" It was so predictably hilarious.
@jwatson626 Earl Root radio benefit was last night, and it was amazing, but no Mentors got airplay, and it would have been fitting, as Earl played them, and who else would..??? On FM STEREO radio here!!
