hey you seem to know alot... i got 4 ACFs 2 are looseing there tails right now and 2 are just growing there legs... for the older ones once they start breathing air what do you feed them... i have been dropping fish food crums on them but i havnt seen them eat... inform me if you got info! thanks!!!!
HBH frog and tadpole bites are a great choice. You could try earth worms cut into small bits,if your brave. Also remove froglets once tail is absorbed. They could eat the smaller one's.
remember that these frogs get really big when frull grown they need 10 gallons of water per frog. If u wanna breed and u get male & a female u need a 20 gallon tank not 10 isnt enough room .u can keep them in a 10 until they look like they are out growing the tank, they will need more room ,females are chubbier, males are slimer ,males have red vaines on their forarms, males have flat butts females dont & femalesbutt area have a small tube for eggs and waste.its really tiny not like a tail
They get 4" to 6" inches long when full grown. You need about five gallons per adult frog.Yes a bigger tank is always better. If you have good filteration tank size is not a issue. These frogs tend to bunch up in one corner. Thanks for your comment.
Hi, please can you help? i woke to find little eggs all over my tank this morning! when do i have to remove the frogs and does the spawn need a heater cos my frogs are living at room temperature. would really appreciate any help cos i've secretly hoped for this to happen and i don't want my froggies to die!
Thanks for this string of videos it was very helpful. I have 4 acf tadpoles and they are tiny so I know they are less than 10 days old. I have been feeding them goldfish flakes smashed into a complete powder is this ok?
I am happy the videos are helpful.Flake food should work.I would put some spinach in a blender and add the flake food to that. They are filter feeders and need a diet high in vegetable matter.Hope this helps you out.
Hello! I have had my male and female acfs for around 6 1/2 years now, and I must say they are the best pets I've had. I was hoping to raise some of the eggs but I haven't had much luck. Most of them die or the female eats most of the eggs before I can remove them. Any advice on how to keep the tadpoles alive?
Hello! I am a new ACF owner, saw some in terrible conditions at my town's Walmart and considered it a rescue more than anything. How long do they live about? I have 6 in a 40 gallon tank. They are still young so Im not sure when to expect maturity, breeding and what to do with the eggs or if moving them to another tank would be better.
Thanks for the info! I have a couple more questions. When can you tell the sex of the frogs and do you have your frogs live in a community tank? I'm assuming the fish will munch up the eggs if they are in there?
COOL!I had some frogs lay eggs in my pool so me and my kept them and the day after they all hatched! It's been a few days now.Can you give me any advice? There is about 200 of them,I got a tank and planning on keeping one to three
My advice would be if they come from outside then outside they should stay. If they were in your pool"there local"then take them to a local waterway(freshwater)them let them go. Mother nature can do far better than us. Buy from your local pet shop.
Yes is the simple answer. The quarer was only in the tank for video. Plus active carbon filters out metal ions. You have to expose frogs to metal over long times to have an effect. Thanks for your concern and comment.
Ah that makes sense. I've just seen a bunch of people freak out when metal comes into contact with the aquarium water, saying to do a 100% water change, etc. so I was a bit confused, haha.
Sure ACF are carriers, that is how it is killing native amphibians throughout the world, they spread it to other frogs, toads, newts, etc. through touch and waste water.
In Pet shops they often mix ACF and DAF together and so it kills the DAFs within 3 months. Big problem in the USA pet shops.
Glad to hear you've got treated frogs, not many of you good owners around. :-)
what do i feed my acfs tadpoles because when i got them it came with 2 weeks of food.

They breed at 6 months to a year.If you don't want to keep the eggs just bottom vac them up.Enjoy your frogs!

You should be able to tell sex after six months.I wouldn't put these frogs in a community tank. They will eat any fish that will fit in there mouth.

They live 20 to 35 years!

Do you treat them for possible Chytrid Fungus infection?

Xenopus Laevis are only Carriers. Plus the parents were treated.
