I've been saying that for years, that one reason PTSD was so high was the soldiers reception after Vietnam. The North Vietnamese slaughtered more civilians after American withdraw and continued to slaughter more civilians after it was just Vietnam. No one can understand a war unless they've fought in it, or it's been over for long enough for it's consequences to sink in on a somewhat universal level.
