@sam57111 Ran it till it blew at 75K miles, then went to an ATS Stage 5-4 and am still running that over 5 years of competition, burnouts, and towing 15-20K all over the country. Also running a BD in my SuperCrawler that puts 500 horse to the crank, on 54" boggers for 5 years. Both are great but BD has better customer service & warranty.
@rooroorooroorooroo6 Greg Weld Ballistic After Greg Weld passed away they shut down and quit making them. I love them. Still have 2 sets I'm trying to get rid of. 20"s and 18"s. The 20"s have a heavy back spacing though at 5.75 for Chevy 8 lug.
Exactly what the top comments are saying. Swap that edge out for an SCT. Get some custom tunes and you'll be hauling a**. I wish I could afford ARP's and injectors.
@stoneboy415 SCT is not a cure-all. Every truck runs different even on identical tunes. I ran both and the old school Edge stuff with hot unlocks ran better. Now days Edge doesn't push the tunes as high as they used to. I use lots of SCT custom Tunes from Eric @ Innovative and yes the run great, but there are a hand full of other products out there that are comparable and offer other things that SCT doesn't.
@houseofdiesel can you get the sct tuned to have a lope idle as well? and my exhaust i dont have a cat or muffler on it straight pipe from turbo back. is that a good enough exhaust system
@pdvick78 Y you don't need huge exhaust unless your pushing over 40 Lbs of boost and 500+ hp. It's just a timing thing. Banks and Edge idle high where as all most all custom or aggressive tunes have a timing lope on one of the choices like Spartan, SCT custom Tunes, or a Hypermax Mach 7. The 6.0's though don't really lope like the 7.3s do. Kinda like a 350 327 comparison. The 6.0 was designed as a higher Rev motor as apposed to a big displacement 5.9 or 7.3.
Also do I need to get the egr kit put on or is the stock valve fine? I have heard mixed opinions on that. I wanna make it smoke more than it already does (not much) but I wanna do it without actually doing to much damage to the truck itself. How do I do that?
@pdvick78 The OE EGR is garbage and will eventually plug. As long as you are running a variable vain turbo you won't have massive smoke like a dodge chevy or 7.3. This one smokes half as much now with the Powermax Garret. At the time I was running the BD Thruster, which is wastegate. It was a great turbo, but the spool up on a VGT is light and day. You don't have to have injectors unless you are looking for 500 hp. With a good tune, exhaust, intake, and the Powermax you can be in the 450-500.
Thanks!! That helps a lot. The guy who told me this uses the sct on his 6.0 and I believe he wanted to scare me away from it because he didn't want me copying his set up. Thanks a lot once again.
@pdvick78 SCT's are like the I-phone cult. Everyone uses them cause of the price and ease. If he didn't want anyone to be like him he shouldn't have been like everyone else. lol
I have a 04 6.0 with a superchips microtuner on it. I want to replace that with a sct livewire and an afe intake system. Would I have to make any other mods with to run that or could I run that on a stock 6.0? I have been told I need stage 2 injectors for that set up. Is that true?
@pdvick78 You can run that all day long. Good mods to go with it are Injectors, Powermax Upgrade Turbo, and anything from Bullet Proof Engineering. I ran an Edge A2 with Stage 6 Hot Unlock for 87K miles and never had any issues with injectors or the trans, and the power is comparable, with heavy shift characteristics. If you can afford is look at the Spartan Diesel Dash Daq. It's a very good option as well tune wise, has been known to pull slightly better MPG's and nicer for watching gauges.
@turbodiesel2014 Hypermax makes the best injectors. My buddies at Jefferson State Diesel are producing some great injectors that produce about the same amount of power yet very lean. It mainly had this much blow by due to the original BD wastegated non VGT Turbo it used to have on it.
@bftrbf The SCT crap is getting old. I ran the EDGE A2 until it wouldn't run anymore. I ran it from the inception, you know before anyone even designed a SCT tune for a DIESEL. I've ran some of the best SCT tunes against it and got the same or less results. No Tune, single turbo, injectors truck will run and uncorrected, pure diesel only 500 to the ground on 40's. Yes, SCT tunes are the best cause you can mess with them. But 500 isn't as easy as half you make it out to be!
@houseofdiesel Geez, didn't mean to step on your toes... lol. I didn't go back and read before I posted. I figured with your listed mods it would make 500 on the 40's. I guess I don't really know the size of the injectors though. So you have tried custom tunes wrote for your setup and they had less power than the Edge??
@bftrbf Ya the Edge A2 malfunctioned for the last time so I never got to run them side by side back to back, but it's never quite made the same power that it did with the Edge. I have no idea what Edge's new replacement stuff is like. The majority of people just need something plug and play like Banks/Edge, and don't have time to mess with tunes and downloads. Off the shelf they are all about the same. It is much easier removing a SCT tune though to take your rig in for a service.
@hondatuner88 4" to 5" straight. I went to the stack and single for a number of reasons. One cloud is way sweeter than two weaker ones. I also kept tearing tips up off roading. I love having it tucked up now. Plus due to the 40"s I had to cut the tip off early on and the bumper and beside kept getting smoked.
@BananaBean03 lol That's a good one. Hopefully your being sarcastic and are intelligent enough to understand that soot falls to the ground and dissolves into the ground (biodegradable). There is nothing toxic or pollutive about it unlike a fuel cell in a hybrid that is extremely toxic and in no way biodegradable or reusable once it's life cycle is done.
im confused because a guy i know told me that all the new diesels have a filter in the exhaust that filters out all the sut and that its illegal to take it out? true or false?
@sleepybone321 2008 and newer have Particulate filters. And just like removing a CAT it's illegal if you get caught without one. Hopefully the EPA gets cut from the budget and auto makers can get us back some of the MPGs that were lost to the filters. Different Manufactures installed CATs at different times throughout the '90s. Now for 2010 most have CATs, PDFs, and DEF Injection that make them burn ultra clean.
@houseofdiesel you know i can get down with that... my though is just it's a long stroke engine... i mean the car i am building for the track will be useless over 400whp, but that doesn't mean i don't want more...
@ROPcivicSi Ya it's kinda tricky with the trucks. If the torque comes on too hard too fast all we're going to do is scatter parts. Compared to the size of the gears and other rolling parts of our larger industrial brothers in the tractor trailers our stuff is like import size. To think that 800-1500 Lbtq can pass through a 10.5"-11.25" ring gear for thousands of miles without exploding is actually pretty cool. Not to mention the hundreds of parts between there and the torque converter.
@houseofdiesel For that kind of money you could have gotten an SCT X3 and given Matt at Gearhead a call and he could have hooked you up! Or you could have gone with Spartan and had some awesome custom tunes and a nice DashDaq to monitor your shit with. Both tunes would actually tune your transmission and make your truck drive like a cadillac as far as shifts go and have SOOOOO much more power, and safe power at that!
@houseofdiesel@houseofdiesel Horses are harder to come by on these things? $400 for a programmer and $150 for some good custom tunes and there's 175hp right there. Do you know what kind of money it would take to add 175hp to a gas engine? Way more than $550!
And if you're running an Edge programmer I hope the next thing on your mod list is a bullet proof tranny! Those things will eat up a Torqshift transmission faster than any other programmer on the market. And Edges have canned tunes.
ATS Stage 5. I've been running a BD in the SuperCrawler for a year now with no problems. The ATS has held up well. It's been losing ground though for a while. I have one in my '06 Mega Cab too and its the same way. Really strong for about as long as an OE and then slowly slips away in performance over a long period instead of simply failing. They could go another 25K or 50K depending on how hard you want to push your luck.
so you say 500 on 35s and 443 on 40s, your dyno sheet shows no where near 500. This is the shit that gives us 6.0 guys a bad name clamming false numbers. I have a 6.0 i call bull shit !
@utlonghorns416 That's cause it had 40's on in this video! Ask anyone that has seen it run. It ran 5 different runs from 2007-2010 with the 35's, 489, 513 (in Gilroy at 60 degrees near zero elevation), 482, 496, and 458 (at Edge guy loaded wrong cause it ran a 430 with the 40's in Salt Lake). Honestly no corrections. On a few occasions I ran both sizes and it was always around 75hp diff except the one time in Salt Lake, cause I wasn't in the truck with him when he made the run on 35's.
@utlonghorns416 no its dumbfucks like YOU that make powerstroke guys look like retards. the truck made 443 horsepower and the god dam title of the video is powerstroke makes 443 horsepower.
Is every one a custom code for just your box or one code to release all 6.0 platinums? I not cheap but I'm running out of money and see no reason to pay another $100 bucks if I can find the code.
No all the codes are vehicle specific to your trucks strategy. It's worth it. Just take it easy on the throttle or you'll be collecting tranny parts up off the street.
These trucks never had PDF's. It's extra unused fuel. Sequential or twin turbo systems use this lower end fuel cause they spool up sooner. The older rigs have larger turbos and they just take longer for the air to match the fuel.
Some do but for the after market it is a lot cheaper to sell and tune a non VGT turbo and it's all about who sells the cheapest stuff. Factory Chevys and Fords have had VGT Turbos since 2003. On Fords 6.4 they ran one VGT and one Non sequential. And the newest 6.7 Powerstroke will have a single sequential turbo with two impellers and on propeller. One impeller will be VGT and the other waste gated.
That comes down to where ya live. If you live somewhere you can get away with ripping the PDF out the 6.4. If you live in California stick with the 6.0.
well im in sonora. but i have a few friends who have all the deletes for there straight pipes. thats cool i wont be able to afford a 6.4 for a couple years anyway haha.
Just took the turbo and injectors off. Probably going to run them on the 62 which I already have a live wire for and will have time to tune. Reason I never used the SCT on the 05 was due to lack of time to tune. Needed to plug and go. And I don't know what everyone bashes the Edge Platinum for it shifts just fine and hasn't hurt the trans.
Go with the SCT, you won't tregret it, i promise. THST edge may have shifted ice, but it was silently tearing your tranny apart. All the Edge does is adjust the pressure to the tranny, which makes it FEEL like a good shift.
But the SCT with custom tunes can be tuned specifically for your turbo, injectors, etc so you can get the most out of them :)
Man that crap about Edges tearing up trannies is BS. I ran a Juice Platinum with Attitude A2 with Stage 6 Hot Unlock on my wife's Excursion runing 40" tires and still had the OE trans in it when we sold it at 80K+. I've run the same setup on mine hauling the SuperCrawler 10K on a 35' Gooseneck 6K all over the country and the OE lasted 78K in that. I torturer thee '05 and have no problems. The problem must be with the Evolutions.
@houseofdiesel Okay, well since you think that Edge is the stuff, I'll let you in on a little secret. It not only does not have trans tuning, but nor does it make near the power of an SCT. I have an SCT custom tune, FICM tune from PHP, exhaust, and the rest stock (injectors, turbos, intake) and I have made 461HP (dyno sheet to prove). BTW, that's 18 more HP than yours and I've spent under $650 performance parts! Hahahahah, and you still think the Edge is the stuff, huh?
@lopinslow17 Funny. One my 443 was on 40"s. Second I'm running my 3rd SCT Live Wire Tune on the '62 Powerstroke with the injectors from this '05 with the same mods and only made 460 on 35"s. This truck was pushing 490-513 on 35"s with the Edge Hot Unlock, so sorry if I think your full of shit. Hey I'll be at Jefferson State Rally, Weekend on the Edge, and ATS Diesel event and I'd love to see you prove me wrong. Sorry but my motto is don't believe it till you see it.
very nice, i have the twin to your truck except its an 04 w/ an 05 front clip upgrade. i noticed a few comments talking about the egr delete, there is no emissions control at all even on gas engines & i am kicking around doing it but i am curious if its really worth it or not. my only major mod is the edge tuner intake & exhaust
Gotcha. It's just a potential problem that can be eliminated with a delete. Either the EGR itself can fail on its own or due to heat from a bad oil cooler, to hot EGT's, or just hot coolant levels. Bullet Proof makes some great recommended additions to help protect your investment. Fixes International should have engineered into the system in the first place or at least to fix the issues.
Almost all of the problems with the 6.0's have to do with heat and the power generated by running even a programmer overloading the cooling systems. IE oil, coolant, and air.
With so many things questioned about the edge and it's issues with Transmission, how do you like the Edge platinum? I know you've got a great dyno number and it sounds and performs great. I know you have great control over the transmission with the platunum. They're aways bad mouthing the edge in the forums. Please let me know.
My '05 Excursion had a 6" lift and 37"-40" tires and stock 3.73 gears and I always drove around on Hot Unlock. It had the original trans in it when I sold it last year with 82K miles. EGR delete, intake Intercooler, intake, and Exhaust were the only mods. This 05 ran the OE trans to 87K before I finally blew it, and I threw an ATS in it and blew that at about 105K, after extreme continuous abuse on 40's. And this one is doing fine. As long as you turn it down while towing they are fine.
Thanks for the quick reply. I guess my worry is that I'm running a box stock 6.0 PSD and not going to make any serious mods for another few months. What's your opinion of the platinum on a box stock. I'll used it for towing my Harley on occasion, rarely if ever off-road, and mostly as my every day ride and not really looking at going over 80+ HP on the engine.
You'd be fine towing your Harley on Hot Unlock. The EGR Delete should just be your next mod ASAP, if you haven't already done it. Pretty inexpensive mod too. You'll be fine. Have fun.
Yeah, I had the same thing on my truck...42RWHP loss from 33" to street tires. Check out the goober in my video response that says that kind of loss is physically impossible LOL
It took a while but we got it pretty dialed. Only reason I had to replace the motor at 105K was the fanclutch wire harness got caught in the fan while pulling a grade loaded on a two lane road and had to finish the grade to get off the road with the gooseneck. Heads have only been an issue when I've over pushed while hauling with a load. Unlike most I still pull the 35' 24K gooseneck loaded. With 4.56s I wouldn't overheat as much from the blow by at too low RPMs. But I like driving 80 empty.
did you have to upgrade the tranny at all?

kdawg7070 1 year ago
so you say 500 on 35s and 443 on 40s, your dyno sheet shows no where near 500. This is the shit that gives us 6.0 guys a bad name clamming false numbers. I have a 6.0 i call bull shit !
utlonghorns416 1 year ago
@utlonghorns416 That's cause it had 40's on in this video! Ask anyone that has seen it run. It ran 5 different runs from 2007-2010 with the 35's, 489, 513 (in Gilroy at 60 degrees near zero elevation), 482, 496, and 458 (at Edge guy loaded wrong cause it ran a 430 with the 40's in Salt Lake). Honestly no corrections. On a few occasions I ran both sizes and it was always around 75hp diff except the one time in Salt Lake, cause I wasn't in the truck with him when he made the run on 35's.
houseofdiesel 1 year ago
@utlonghorns416 no its dumbfucks like YOU that make powerstroke guys look like retards. the truck made 443 horsepower and the god dam title of the video is powerstroke makes 443 horsepower.

why does it smoke alot

Unburnt fuel waiting for the turbo to spool up. Until the fuel and air match not all the fuel can burn.

What is the Hot Code to release my level 6?
My 6.0 is way out of warranty so I'm not worried about that. Thanks.
Diesel117br 2 years ago
You have to get the ECM code from the Edge programmer and call Edge fill out a waiver pay $100 and fax over the release.
houseofdiesel 2 years ago
Is every one a custom code for just your box or one code to release all 6.0 platinums? I not cheap but I'm running out of money and see no reason to pay another $100 bucks if I can find the code.
Diesel117br 2 years ago
No all the codes are vehicle specific to your trucks strategy. It's worth it. Just take it easy on the throttle or you'll be collecting tranny parts up off the street.
houseofdiesel 2 years ago
Thanks for the info.
Diesel117br 2 years ago
why do Diesel's blow black smoke. is it because this truck has no particulate filter on it.
seroyer2 2 years ago
These trucks never had PDF's. It's extra unused fuel. Sequential or twin turbo systems use this lower end fuel cause they spool up sooner. The older rigs have larger turbos and they just take longer for the air to match the fuel.
houseofdiesel 2 years ago
I thought that a diesel burned fuel more efficiency then a gas truck, so your saying that the black smoke is unburnt carbon being blown out.
seroyer2 2 years ago
No unburnt fuel. It only is wasted until the air mixture from the turbo catches up to the fuel.
houseofdiesel 2 years ago
That's why the trend is going to sequential turbo's or the newest design by Honeywell for Ford a single sequential turbo.
houseofdiesel 2 years ago
Oh ok I understand now. what about VTG turbos like what they put on the 911 turbo, why don't they use that type of turbo.
seroyer2 2 years ago
Some do but for the after market it is a lot cheaper to sell and tune a non VGT turbo and it's all about who sells the cheapest stuff. Factory Chevys and Fords have had VGT Turbos since 2003. On Fords 6.4 they ran one VGT and one Non sequential. And the newest 6.7 Powerstroke will have a single sequential turbo with two impellers and on propeller. One impeller will be VGT and the other waste gated.

i was wandering if you had a preference between your 6.0 and the 6.4
sonnyc101 2 years ago
That comes down to where ya live. If you live somewhere you can get away with ripping the PDF out the 6.4. If you live in California stick with the 6.0.
houseofdiesel 2 years ago
well im in sonora. but i have a few friends who have all the deletes for there straight pipes. thats cool i wont be able to afford a 6.4 for a couple years anyway haha.
sonnyc101 2 years ago
You need to get an SCT with custom tunes. You will make more horsepower, with WAYYYY better shifting, and not to mention a faster truck all around.
And a tranny that will last a looonnng time!
lopinslow17 2 years ago
Just took the turbo and injectors off. Probably going to run them on the 62 which I already have a live wire for and will have time to tune. Reason I never used the SCT on the 05 was due to lack of time to tune. Needed to plug and go. And I don't know what everyone bashes the Edge Platinum for it shifts just fine and hasn't hurt the trans.
houseofdiesel 2 years ago
Go with the SCT, you won't tregret it, i promise. THST edge may have shifted ice, but it was silently tearing your tranny apart. All the Edge does is adjust the pressure to the tranny, which makes it FEEL like a good shift.
But the SCT with custom tunes can be tuned specifically for your turbo, injectors, etc so you can get the most out of them :)
lopinslow17 2 years ago
Man that crap about Edges tearing up trannies is BS. I ran a Juice Platinum with Attitude A2 with Stage 6 Hot Unlock on my wife's Excursion runing 40" tires and still had the OE trans in it when we sold it at 80K+. I've run the same setup on mine hauling the SuperCrawler 10K on a 35' Gooseneck 6K all over the country and the OE lasted 78K in that. I torturer thee '05 and have no problems. The problem must be with the Evolutions.
houseofdiesel 2 years ago
@houseofdiesel Okay, well since you think that Edge is the stuff, I'll let you in on a little secret. It not only does not have trans tuning, but nor does it make near the power of an SCT. I have an SCT custom tune, FICM tune from PHP, exhaust, and the rest stock (injectors, turbos, intake) and I have made 461HP (dyno sheet to prove). BTW, that's 18 more HP than yours and I've spent under $650 performance parts! Hahahahah, and you still think the Edge is the stuff, huh?
lopinslow17 1 year ago
@lopinslow17 Funny. One my 443 was on 40"s. Second I'm running my 3rd SCT Live Wire Tune on the '62 Powerstroke with the injectors from this '05 with the same mods and only made 460 on 35"s. This truck was pushing 490-513 on 35"s with the Edge Hot Unlock, so sorry if I think your full of shit. Hey I'll be at Jefferson State Rally, Weekend on the Edge, and ATS Diesel event and I'd love to see you prove me wrong. Sorry but my motto is don't believe it till you see it.

*** i ment to say there is no emissions controol where i live
powerjoker04 2 years ago
very nice, i have the twin to your truck except its an 04 w/ an 05 front clip upgrade. i noticed a few comments talking about the egr delete, there is no emissions control at all even on gas engines & i am kicking around doing it but i am curious if its really worth it or not. my only major mod is the edge tuner intake & exhaust
powerjoker04 2 years ago
Gotcha. It's just a potential problem that can be eliminated with a delete. Either the EGR itself can fail on its own or due to heat from a bad oil cooler, to hot EGT's, or just hot coolant levels. Bullet Proof makes some great recommended additions to help protect your investment. Fixes International should have engineered into the system in the first place or at least to fix the issues.
houseofdiesel 2 years ago
Almost all of the problems with the 6.0's have to do with heat and the power generated by running even a programmer overloading the cooling systems. IE oil, coolant, and air.
houseofdiesel 2 years ago
With so many things questioned about the edge and it's issues with Transmission, how do you like the Edge platinum? I know you've got a great dyno number and it sounds and performs great. I know you have great control over the transmission with the platunum. They're aways bad mouthing the edge in the forums. Please let me know.
casualtrainer 2 years ago
My '05 Excursion had a 6" lift and 37"-40" tires and stock 3.73 gears and I always drove around on Hot Unlock. It had the original trans in it when I sold it last year with 82K miles. EGR delete, intake Intercooler, intake, and Exhaust were the only mods. This 05 ran the OE trans to 87K before I finally blew it, and I threw an ATS in it and blew that at about 105K, after extreme continuous abuse on 40's. And this one is doing fine. As long as you turn it down while towing they are fine.
houseofdiesel 2 years ago
Thanks for the quick reply. I guess my worry is that I'm running a box stock 6.0 PSD and not going to make any serious mods for another few months. What's your opinion of the platinum on a box stock. I'll used it for towing my Harley on occasion, rarely if ever off-road, and mostly as my every day ride and not really looking at going over 80+ HP on the engine.
casualtrainer 2 years ago
You'd be fine towing your Harley on Hot Unlock. The EGR Delete should just be your next mod ASAP, if you haven't already done it. Pretty inexpensive mod too. You'll be fine. Have fun.

Nice pulls!!
From the description, that's just additional proof that tire size does indeed have a bearing on RWHP...
rekjavicxxx 2 years ago
Ya I dynoed it about two years ago with both and put down 410 with the 40s and 485 with the 35s.
houseofdiesel 2 years ago
Yeah, I had the same thing on my truck...42RWHP loss from 33" to street tires. Check out the goober in my video response that says that kind of loss is physically impossible LOL

Send that vid response again.

Nice truck!! Who's is it? any reliability issues yet or part failures?
Xx69roadrunnerxX 2 years ago
It took a while but we got it pretty dialed. Only reason I had to replace the motor at 105K was the fanclutch wire harness got caught in the fan while pulling a grade loaded on a two lane road and had to finish the grade to get off the road with the gooseneck. Heads have only been an issue when I've over pushed while hauling with a load. Unlike most I still pull the 35' 24K gooseneck loaded. With 4.56s I wouldn't overheat as much from the blow by at too low RPMs. But I like driving 80 empty.
