The narrator says that Smilodon was an ancestor of all big cats. Not so. The modern species of big cat already existed at the time this movie shows. Smilodon was a specialist predator that went extinct when it lost its ecological niche.

Even though this documentary did not refer to dogs, I believe all paleo peoples recognized the importance of them and took advantage of them where ever they went. All they had to do was to kill the adults, obtain and raise the pups. The nasy ones became food. Other pups became the eyes and ears. The pups would recognize the people as THEIR pack, but any stalking by wild animals could be recognized by observing the dogs behaviour or the alerting sounds the dogs made.

The interesting thing about this documerntary (Thank You History Channel), is the fact that through evidence of, magnetic spiruals which contain nano diamonds, and evidence of fulerines which came from outer space, teams of Scientists were able to piece together a cause for the "younger Dryas" ice age. A comet or asteroid about 12,900 years ago struck the existing ice sheet causing so much havic as to weaken and wipe out much of the MegaFauna, plus existing Clovis people, some exiting westward.

@hathwit7 My point is that the theory of whites coming to America before the asians through the Bering Strait (The "amerindians" who later became apaches, aztecs, incas) is non sustainable, pure speculation. History Channel is at times totally wrong. An example of their amazing mistakes: For the mayan calendar they frequently show the aztec calendar "Piedra del Sol" sculpted by orders of Axayacatl, aztec emperor around 1478 DC, no mayan ever saw it or knew about its existance !

No hyenas. All dogs are descended from wolves, according to dog DNA. They've mapped the dog genome too. In the US we have a wild dog that's called the Carolina Dog that they think is a direct descendant of the primitive dogs that came to the Americas with Humans. The look a lot like dingos.

@goowhite White people killed off the Indians? Yikes, that is a narrow view. No credible genetic scientist even refers to race anymore. That should tell you something, if you're bright enough to get it. When you follow the line back, everybody is from the same family group. What happened was, one technologically superior culture took the resources of a technologically inferior one. That has happened many times throughout human history, whichever color their skin happened to be.

@TheOnlyArakon They were talking about Clovis and the theory that they came from Europe, but were killed off during the Younger Dryas or merged with the Folsom people who came from Siberia. They were the Native Americans we know today and are portrayed that way. DNA testing of Amerindians suggests that their ancestors originated in Siberia, Mongolia, and Tibet. Some have DNA from haplogroup X which is one of the oldest European and American DNA types, dating from 10,000 years ago
