followed your pointer and listened to some Rama varma videos on youtube. Singing Endaro Mahanubhavulu, he does imitate his master Dr. BMK. Musing, I mainly respond to the "bhava" of the singer, and in that I find the new crop of carnatic singers wanting. Rarely does one MS, pattammal, MLV,... born. Did you listen to MS's kurai ondrum illai on youtube? See how lost and inward she becomes. As annamacharya says:

hmm...maybe you are right as I don't know the intricacies of it but what I liked in Rama Varma is his excellent and clear rendition. From his interview in webindia123, I gathered that he makes an effort to explain the meaning of the songs to his audience.
