  • The translation of the poem given below is from Vinay Dharwadker's book - Kabir The Weaver's Songs. In this poem when Kabir says everything is tainted, soiled and polluted, including all gods -

  • Govind (Krishna), Brahma, Shankar and Indra as well as Vedas (knowledge) and the syllable OM (the cosmic background sound), what he means is that all these are part of the creation (of the uncreated One), these are forms (of the One without form), they are all in and of Maya (Ram – the Unmanifest One's creative energy that gives rise to Time, Space and all forms of physical energies). Hence, they are all polluted and have certain

  • qualities (as they are in and of this creation/Maya). To realise the Truth one’s self must go beyond all these to witness and be as one’s Self as it really is - one’s own Self that is the only truth, without any qualities (good or bad), formless, uncreated and undestroyed, the source of all there is, was and ever will be, creator of time, space and all energy, the only witness (of this entire dram of this Universe), the experience of everything as well as everything that is experienced.

  • The leaf in the oblation is rank, the god in his shrine is unclean: infection serves the infected. Impurity dances, impurity sings: Pollution displays an infinite number of guises. The how and what, the when and where of contamination: It vanquishes charity, goodness, austerity, devotion. Kabir says, only one in a million awakens to this: but when he does, he gives up what's tainted and joins the incorruptible.
  • Ram, the Flawless One is different: the chaos scattered all around is tainted. Creation's contaminated, the syllable OM is sullied: impurity has created this unholy spread. Brahma, Shankara, Indra are smirched: Goving with his gopis is soiled. Speech and sound are foul, the Vedas are stained: impurity has perpetrated so many form. Learning, reading, recitation, the ancient books are all corrupt: knowledge, cheapened, mouthed for free, is dirty
  • Superb....

  • wah panditji wah kya kahen aapke bare mein shabd nahi hain ,

  • too good.....just great.....the best.....

  • truly mystical, magical draws me towards the almighty

  • who can ever sing like this divine personality? no matter however many times one listens to Kumar Gandharvaji one can never cease to wonder at his mastery and control.Th e photographs complement the recital! he was walking taking and breathing amongst us! it is hard to believe now that he has gone! at least now we have you tube as a repository for his talent!

  • Great vocal................I loved it since my teenage........& still feel same melody in my heart as when i was young....beautiful expression of being in love with God.

  • YOGPURUS

  • @nashadraza -Anjan is impurity, Niranjan is pure without any residue

    Karpoor is niranjan, got it?

  • All the leaves, idols, thorns, fruit, they are all his visible form. He sings and dances all around us, e shows himself in countless forms, yet ...the visible also dwells in charity, meditation, and places of pilgrimage. Says Kabir, very few people are awake, though the visible throws infinite light on them.

  • @nashadraza

    very well explained ..thanks

  • All creation, all sounds, all the illusory Maya spread all around us, all the Gods that we have created, they are all the visible signs of that Great one who is invisible. All the knowledge, Vedas, Puranas, etc are all his signs, yet he himself remains invisible.

  • Ram (God) the invisible is interestingly strange,

As he has strewn his visible form all around us.

    (Anjan: visibility Niranjan: invisible)

  • niranjan means undestroyable anajan means which will perish here ram means the undesroyable anjan sakal parsara rey means everything around is perishable will not remain whatever u see is illusion its not truth anjan mange sab vistar means the perishable demands the all expansion only the ram the unknown is niranjan that is not perishable only when u lost ur self u will understand when ur without me then only he comes

  • In this song, Kabir, instructing his highest teaching, tells us how rare it is for anybody to reach a state of untainted, full Self-realization. Anything short of this state of full realization Kabir labels as Tainted. Since this state of Self-realization is beyond words, Kabir uses the method of negation (of the non-real) to guide us.

  • I think he says Anjan ( good) is everywhere...

I do not thik he menas Anjan ( black )as necessarily bad..

( I also think that referring black as bad and fair as good is a wrong way to look at the world... )

  • Amazing is this lamp says Kabir (with tongue in cheek) that spreads soot (anjan) not light. He refers to the darkness of superstition and rituals that overcasts real religious ideals (Rama). Kabir's commentary applies to religious orthodoxy and dogmatism all over the world. Interestingly, it took one rebel (Kumarji) to spread the word of the original revolutionary (Kabir) among the urban classes. But the so called illiterate rural masses had identified with and lapped up Kabir ages ago.

  • @freddieynsfordhill Thanks for your explanation - spot on!

  • please can some one explain the meaning

  • Can someone please explain the meaing of anjan and niranjan ?

  • MrKhoji,

    Niranjan : Spotless, Pristine,

Anjan : Dark skinned, also dark like Kajal (kohl). For me it is reference to Lord Krishna, and its closeness to soul as Kajal is closest to eyes.

  • @BubblesPothowari

Thank u Bbbles Pothowariji for shedding some light on it .But if Krishna is anjan then why is Rama (Himself) niranjan? Why is this contrast being so stressed upon? Does it mean Darkness all around and only He is the one enlighened, pristine,spotless.....everything else in this world is dark, even the vedas discardable ..anjan sakal pasara re... ignorance all around? i dont know...

  • the guruji. there will never be another like him. a unique product of what is the best of india

  • Can you please post the lyrics ..

  • @kauthegreat

Ram Niranjan Nyara Re, Anjan Sakal Pasara Re

Anjan Utapati, Omkar, Anjan Mange Sab Bistar

Anjan Brahma Shankar Indar, Anjan Gopi Sangi Govind Re

Anjan Vani, Anjan Ved, Anjan Kiya Na Na Bhed

Anjan Vidya Path Puran, Anjan Woh Kat Kat Hi Gyan Re

Anjan Paati Anjan Dev, Anjan Ki Kare Anjan Sev

Anjan Nache Anjan Gawe, Anjan Bhesh Anant Dikhawe Re

Anjan Kahan Kahan Lag Keta, Dan Puni Tap Tirath Jeta

Kahe Kabir Koi Birla Jage, Anjan Chaadhi Anant Hi Dage Re
