  • great video mate has helped me understand it step by step alot of other visd are crap

  • Great video, a man cut of my jib. Check out the scottykilmer channel on youtube for my videos on fixing cars. Scotty

  • Hey Trebor4460. That is a great video. I defo need to get me a set of those gauges.

    I,ve got me a 600 bandit.

Having a few carb probs at the mo and got an oil leak out the front of engine under manifolds.

Hoping to have the bike sounding the same as yours dis by the end of that video.

    Any Tips??

    Once again great vid.

    Safe riding

  • good video, doesn't seem all that hard. thanks, rob

  • God man great video

  • Thanks gave me the confidence to do my own!

  • Zelatur, glad you had gud results with the balancing. :0)

  • diffrence is very big before and after.. very nice

  • Hi 9b8, the guages are not actualy mercury based anymore, they are alloy sliders, safer cos of mercury is quite poisionous. Anyways the slider type imo, is easier to read at a glance than 4 dials in a row, the sliders are also dampes so they dont jump around much, apart from that not much difference and the dial type works very well.

  • Hi treb, nice vid on this procedure; 'twas helpful. I have a little virago 535 that just got its carbs fully rebuilt with all new jets and such, and she's running rough. At some point I'm sure I will need to sync the carbs, after the prereq's are taken care of (timing, valve adjustment, etc). What advantage is this mercury-based guage over the analog dial type? I'm in the US and looking to buy one, but would prefer to get a better one if I'm going to buy one at all. Appreciate your vid.

  • YYep the k1 and after is a sod to get at the vac take offs,

Leaving the tank on just makes the job harder.

Tickover at 1200 rpm is too high imo, regardless of what Mr Hayes tells u, leave it at 1000 rpm ;-)

  • Tickover for the 1200's is 1200+/-100rpm

  • Thats easy as pie to get to the carb take-offs. My K1 '01 Bandit has them at an inward angle and they're a complete pain to get to, especially no.2 carb.

I've left the tubes on and cut them to a length so they're accessible without taking the fuel tank off, and i just plugged them with a 6mm bolt ready for the next time i balance the carbs. Also you get about 4 minutes of running time from the fuel in the carbs so if your quick you don't need to rig up a temporary fuel supply.

  • had the same on mine, found the vac cap down the plug hole. :0)

yeh, realized after i made the vid that i had said mercury instead of sliders, old school you see, use to working with a set of mercury ones back in the day. ;o)

  • Thanks for this video. My 1200 Bandit was running shitty and upon closer examination discovered one of the carbs had its vacuum cover (blank plug) missing. Guess I'll get one of those Carbtune gauges. By the way Carbtune gauges have NO MERCURY inside - that's their claim to fame. They use stainless steel columns; no poison/no worries!

  • Great video, thanks for very much.

  • Glad it helped out Vvviiinnnyyylll, :0)

  • well done ;) good vid, it helped me in how to use the carbtune.

    Cheers

  • glad your bikes running smoother Zelatur :0)

  • WOW engine runs much better when you finish!

  • Bloody hell I've been outed... Lol.

  • I didn't know Johnny Vegas did his own repairs

  • The carb inlet size is the same , 32 mm but the carbs are a different make, your bandit being keihin cvk32 and the gsx being mikunis, worth giving them a go I suppose but I would be suprised if they work straight off, will prob need rejetting at least.

  • hi just wondered if anyone can help me i need new carbs for my 1999 600 bandit i been given some carbs off a 1999 gsx600f just wondered if i fit them will it be ok? cheers

  • As a side note the Morgsan vac gauges can also be used on fuel injection bikes to balance the Fuel injectors.

  • I would say that the procedure will be very similar on carburated bikes with two or more cylinders. You will of course have to consult your service manual to locate the vac take off points and the adjusting screws.

  • Hiya, do you think the balancing procedure would be the same for all Jap bikes, have a Honda Blackbird you see, and was wondering if i could do the same as you

  • how long were you running your motor for m8, was your engine running weak on the mixture,

Bandits are air/ oil cooled engines and although they get hot they will quite happily tick over for an extended period of time with no ill effects, i had mine ticking over for 30 mins and no probs at all.

  • hello mate,it may be a bit helpful in the vid if you mention that a powerful fan should be used while tuning the carbs because i had some bother getting the levels right and the engine fatally over heated and it melted just about every bit of plastic and rubber on the engine(including the tubes from the carbtune)i then read the instructions to the carbtune and it states that it is very important to use a powerful fan on the engine while tuning it,a very costly mistake!!great vid though

  • hi 2wheelsteve,

are the plugs black on 4 and 2, if so them cylinders are running rich, chances are the carbs need pulling and the float valves and float heights need checking,

a carb balance will make her run smoother and less vibes but will not alter the mixture.

rule out plugs by swapping them over and seeing if the same cylinders are effected,

same with coils leads, swop the coils over, making sure you still got the right firing order and see if the same cylinders are still fouling.

  • Great job mate, my maxim inline four is running like a bag of shite and this could be the answer, could be the leads, coils, or f**king anything, cleaned the carbs improved it a bit but four is coking up and so is two but not as much, anyway subbed and friend request sent, ride safe

  • glad it was of some help, gud luck with the carb balance. :0)

  • i think this will help me out no end , cheers for your time bud

  • Greenie, no m8 not a member there, i am a member of The Bandit Forum, pop over there m8, its a great forum and its free.

  • Westkennedy1,

i spose u could use a single guage but it would be a lot of hassle and you would have to block the other vac outlets off as you set the one carb with the guage,

a lot easier and more accurate to use a four guage affair.

  • Great video. Are you a member of Bandit Owners Club.

    Geoff.

  • can u balance d cards using a single vacuum gauge or do i need a gauge for each carb like wat u have? cheers

  • @synthpathetic

    yep, Kev Webster here... ;0)

  • Great description there! need to balance my carbs on my gsxr 600 srad i think. Do you think the principle of the job will be the same (ie. will the screws possibly be the same layout, that do 3 + 4, 2 +1, and 1,2 3 and 4.) cheers!

  • @tompwh

Yes m8, the principle will be the same, balance 1&2, then balance 3&4, then balance 1&2 to 3&4, vac outlets and adjusting screws might be in a slightly different place though.

  • Question: That "little screw thats just down there" , what if you turn it too fast and your carb meter shoots above the white marker on the guage and into the red zone. How do you bring that carb back down again. Hope that makes sense.

  • @kame19862

the screw is very sensitive and only takes a tweak to adjust the level of vacuum, to bring it back down just tweak it back the other way.

takes a bit of practice to balance carb 1 to carb 2, then balance carb 3 to carb 4, then the middle screw balances carb1&2 to carb 3&4, with practice and no air leaks you should get a nice flat line on all the guages.

  • Thanks for the video, bike sounds great! What exhaust is that?

Mine idles at about 900 I haven't set mine up but it was sold to me by somone who knew what they were doing as everything on my bike is well lubed and looked after. Getting a K&N filter soon unsure if I should get a standard oem one or the dual ovals, and if I should put it on the local dyno after and invest in one of these later? What do you spray lube your bike with? Sorry for all the questions! Top video. :)

  • @adeath13 less trouble with a panel k&n, with pods you have to ditch the filter box and can be then very tricky to set up, you will defo need some runs on a dyno and a stage 3 jet kit fitted,

with the panel filter you might need a stage 1 jet kit as you might develop a flat spot in the rev range.

the up side to pod filters is you have the potential to hit 125+ bhp and up to 90lbs of torque if all set up right. :)

  • @trebor4460 No idea what's been done to mine, but it has a 128.9 bhp reading on dyno chart from the bloke that sold me it... I guess I'll find out when I take it to dyno myself, could be a load of bs but it's still a fast bike, even if it's around 110 bhp. Going to buy a carbon yoshimura rs3 and the panel K&N filter for now.

  • have a look through my other vids m8, theres one there on taking the tank off. :o)

  • My Mrs just got a Bandit 1200 - and I failed at even getting the tank off ! Manual says to remove the 'side panels' but that's the whole 'upper body' (right to the light) of the bike - is there an easier method ? (seems to be about 5mm plastic lip of bodywork in the way :(

    Cheers

    Chris

  • thx m8 and good luck with the balance.

  • Good work mister, very clear. Mine are to be done this weekend. Had to take them out (again) to set in my head where the screws were. Bit thick me, or just not done it before. Thanks for the video, one of the best on youtube.

  • thanks for the info great input

  • dont know why thats posted 3 times?

  • no need to remove the air box m8, do it as the vid, the only difference is on the mark 2 bandits, after year 2000. the carb vac outlets for the pipes from the gauges, are situated underneath the carbs instead of on the top as in the vid, and are difficult to get too.

  • Did you remove air filter box, I think mine is in the way to adjust screws, does it matter if its off?

  • Thanks for the vid, very helpful. Misc.

  • Good vid mate, gonna have a go at this tommorrow.

  • Will do this to my B12, hope it makes it smoother

  • one of the best "how to" vids ive seen. cheers

  • haha cracking video mate, top funny guy great accent!

  • awesome video

  • n1 m8 well done,no fuss or hastle,bish bosh bash

  • verry nice vid m8 thanks for posting it! have a nice ride!

  • think i'll have a go at that in the morning. good vid. no waffle. to the point. and a job well done.

  • great vid, my 600 is goin in 2morro for this. Prob hav a go myself next time! Cheers....

  • balancing the carbs will smooth out the power delivery and cut vibes but will not alter the carburation. she might be running a bit rich low down so you could try reseting the pilot jets and even dropping the needles a notch might help. make sure your air filter is sound and not clogged and the plugs are clean and gapped properly. ;0)

  • Nicely explained! Good job! My ZX0r already "runs like a bag o' shite" mainly at low revs, could that be my problem?, or maybe valve clearances, or because I think the carb is jetted for a race can which it no longer has, Plugs look fine and there is no carbon deposit in the can but it smells slighly of unburnt fuel, even though it just passed MOT and they never said emissions were out?

  • hia CrustyBiker i have the same probs with my zx6r j1... runs like crap only at low revs, carbs bin jetted an k&n an race can... have you fixed your prob an if so what did you do?

  • Great video, loved the 'run like a bag of shite' line. 5 * used to have a Bandit 6, it was my first big bike after passing my test loved it to bits.

  • how often do u want to do this?

  • @dukviper90 like every 200 miles

  • whoa!!! I dont know about that. that would mean i would sync it every week.

  • very useful video, thanks a load for your time and help, and nice bike!

  • very helpfull video thanks

  • awesome, thanks alot ur a beast

  • 8:12 - "...if you don't it'll run like a bag-a-shite" - haaaahahaaaa!

Really good video, didn't miss anything out, cheers.

  • This post really helped. Thanks mate.

  • Great video!

  • Good man your self:-)

  • Great education on the carb sync. Thanks.

  • Thanks man :)

  • Great job, thanks for posting the video.

  • Great vid. Carbtune should give you a few pound for showing just how easy this is. Cheers, mate.

  • nice vid buddy, sounds like your from stoke, where did you get your gauge from and how much? i searched the web with no joy, if you do live in stoke would you be interested in settin up my mate,s fzr 1000. ride safe!

    regards steve
