Not anymore. It's riddled with holes from past excavations & very unsafe. If everyone was still allowed to walk all over it it would be eroded in no time. It's a sacred mother mound and place of the gods. I don't think you really were allowed up there unless you were a priest.
Interesting, but I really hope that Cope appreciates that this topic is very "Spinal Tappish". In fact, Niles (Chris Guest from Tap) actually has an almost identical obsession with primitive monuments and made a small mockumentary about it. I keep expecting David St Hubbins to jump out from behind a stone and begin playing Stone Henge or Big Bottoms.
i live in california and i have never seen any footage that shows so much of the beautiful landscape out there. thanks for turning us on julian to something other than krautrock or japrock, will be keeping a close eye on head heritage.
a great series on a subject more pertinent than ever in this debased, materialist landscape we now call "home." there's a lot to be learned from the ancients, west and east. thanks julian cope!
Saxondale(surely)rocks! Thank you so much for posting this. The Modern Antiquarian has been my travelling bible for some years now...thank you your Drudship for all your valiant efforts!
I don't think a soundtrack was released but the sound clips heard in this part are from Cope's 'Rite' series which are a series of instrumental works.
So what does it actually mean?

anyone else sickened by the fact that modern folk had the pure ignorance to build a village inside Avebury circle?
solar7 1 year ago
@solar7 There have been settlements inside the circle for nearly 3500 years. So, no.

I've been to Avebury, Stonehenge and Callanish. Need to tick off the rest before I go upwards at 45 degrees.

Julian Cope's fabulously offbeat conjecture takes us for a spin 'round much of unseeen britain, a veiw as to what could have been...
perhaps in some bygone era of trancendence like a permanant ego trip with no comedown
