Fuckin' beast. I have a (1978) Super 8mm Kodak. It takes 8mm B&W, and Silent Color. I was looking online for some websites that sell the film and I don't have any film for it. Do you know any good websites that you can order super 8mm kodak?
Nice editing work. Great stuff. I would have recommended a better transfer than a workstation which is what this looks like it was done on. You really needed the 2:3 pull down during frame scanning to get rid of all the flicker. Next time try Spectra film. Nice piece though. I like it. Thank you for sharing.
yeah I would have like to do a real transfer, but i didn't want to spend the cash, super 8 is now expensive enough. I'll save the real transfers for the bigger projects. Thanks for the tip for the pull down i'll make sure I do that on the next one.

Spectra Film and Video in Hollywood offers Super 8mm film stock. Prices are reasonable and include processing. About $20- 35.00 per 50 ft roll. Stocks include Kodak 100 Daylight reversal, Vision 3 Negative 200T and 500T and (2) Kodak B&W stocks. Pro8mm.com splits 35mm into 8mm stocks and offer over a dozen different ones. Excellent grain and color saturation. Spectra will process stocks but you'll pay the price.. For transfer to hard drive or DVD I recommend Larsen Digital.
I love shooting super8, I wish I can do more, i just need to find more time and allow for more expenses to go in to it some projects, I just love the super 8 imagery produced and making a music video of it. Be sure to show me a link to your work.
I have a few questions, how did you transfer the 8mm film to video? Did you have to go somewhere special to get it done? And where do you get the cartridges? I'm about to purchase one for $5 so I just wanna know how it all works! Thanks!
so far I get all my cartridges from Dwaynes photo as well as processed.
For the transferring I just use the projector and capture the video off the wall or screen. It doesn't look as nice but a heck of alot cheaper than a rank transfer from the lab. if I was shooting a negative film then of course I would just get it all transferred at the lab.
But seriously, the reason I liked this film was the music, the symbolism, and the fact that I just bought a super 8 camera and needed some inspiration. How many cartridges did you use?
yeah it sucked in the winter, but yes every day I didn't have a car at the time for about a year. I worked at a video production in Vernon company at the time.
Glad you liked it the symbolism was exactly what I was going for and it ended up both literally and figuratively with the chaos of the traffic yet the empty road. The song was an afterthought that fit so perfectly.
I shot only two cartridges one for the cars and traffic and one on myself, so 6 min in total.I shot old kodachrome for it
I just finished shooting my first super 8 film, it will have a lot of old buildings derelict buildings in it. Although it probably won't have as much meaning as yours. Thanks for the inspiration. Dwaynes still processes kodachrome for $10!
Very powerful imagery. My take: if you do not look or act a certain way, people---and life---just pass you by. Change up---conform some---presents you in a different light; then you are allowed "entrance," much like at 1:23 when he begins to strip. Took him a little while but he "conformed," did not look so bad, and got the ride. Otherwise, he'd still be there, invisible, with everyone else in their own world with happy lives just passing him by.
I appreciate your interpretation of the film, For me this film represented me being lost, not really knowing what direction to go and being in a state of turmoil both carreer and life paths.
I actually had to hitchike daily 100 kms to and from work for a year while I saved for a replacement vehicle so this metaphore lent itself perfectly. this film sheds light on stripping away emotional baggage and finding myself after a year of self confusion. I haven't looked back since.
Nicely done....I myself shoot on super8 and split8, i use a Bolex for each format, I have the K3,it does the job but will prolly get a Bolex H16rex as I'm partial to the brand.
if you want a better camera pick up an old k3 (krangnogorsk 3 series) its a 16mm cam but you can change the gaiting to super 16 you can prolly pick one up for 200 bucks on ebay
yeah but the thing is I would rather a high end super 8 like a Canon 1014 or a Nizo professional than a low end 16mm especially with the cost of film. Thats what I would Rather however if was to get a 16mm cam it probably would be a K3 to start with because they are so cheap
Hey, cool video, I recently bought a Super 8 camera, it's great, but how do you upload the footage on to a computer...? And once uploaded, can you edit it with software? Many thanks!
I actually added it in from another film, I like to use those as a transition. same with the end. To the colour burn for real open you camera up while there is film in it. The over exposure should give you an effect, or if you are really daring you can literally burn the film from you projection heat, But I'm not in favor of that
Oh! I've got a 310 XL too. I've been thinking lately about taking it out, and using it. There's a place in my city that still sells Super 8 film. Your movie convinces me that I should use that old camera.
Definetly get out there and shoot with it. It's a great little camera. I really enjoy mine however I do want to pick up another camera that has manual features and a longer lens.
I'm defiantly buying an 8mm film camera. Looks so cool man. I'm sick of digital all the time.

lol no not quite but rather a lost direction in life that I was trying to figure out = university was a life path I was choosing to do,
on a literal side note I hichthiked every day from the University (Kelowna) to work in vernon about 100 km round trip every day.

I just did an off the wall transfer, quick n' dirty. I did edit on video, however looking back editing it on my film editor would have been neat too.

where did you get teh film processed, and how much did it cost, this is a pretty cool video

I got it processed at Dwaynes Photo in the US- the only place to process K40 film. At the time it was 10 bucks a cart.
