  • uh, how would one go about getting to the older videos on the channel? sorry if the answers super obvious and i just was too blind to see it...

  • Does anyone have the pattern for this, still? I emailed Corrine, but she must not be offering the pattern via email anymore, so if anyone else had it, and would be willing to email it to me, could they @reply this message, or send me a note? Thanks!

  • I was thinking if I can find a commerical pattern for this kind of cloak, it won't be a deadly sewing project? It seems like the first pattern transfering part is really difficult. I always watch this video when I have difficulty sleeping :-) Thanks to the designer.

  • i looked at this and said death bahh it cant be that hard huhu boy was i wrong.

  • two years later... and it's still DEATH for me. XDDD

  • Can you guys do a tutorial for a red riding hood cape like in the movie please please please!?

  • difficult ><

  • huh! challenging...can't imagine myself doing this....still amaze on it...thanks anyway!

  • this guy is such a fagget i just wanna punch him in the face

  • @xjordanx232 Hey, maybe when you can write proper we can speak again.

  • @Chocolateaddict98 *properly

  • @akissy No. I meant proper.

  • @Chocolateaddict98 well, maybe my English teachers were wrong, but they always corrected me and told me it was properly. It's an adjective, and you seem to be using proper like so. o.o *shrugs* Anyways, English isn't even my Mother language, I shouldn't care that much. XD

  • @akissy Well I intended it to mean classy because 70% of the people on Youtube find it difficult.

  • @Chocolateaddict98 It's still properly, or maybe "in a proper way". o.o And no, it's more like 90% of the people in Youtube, 70% is giving a lot of credit. XD

  • @akissy Well excuse me for on mistake in my reply, compared to his, which looks as it has been written by a 8 year old.

  • @Chocolateaddict98 touchy, aren't we? i was actually agreeing with you...

  • oh crap. this is DEATH..

  • o no!i lost him

  • this is the first time I see a "death" rating... this episode is sooo cool!!

  • ummm huh?what'd he say?what'd he do?

Is there a cloak vid for something similar but easier?

  • would've loved to make this if I got anythong of what he was saying, I got lost so quickly and you can't really tell how the end result looks.

  • OMG DEATH! Ive been waiting to see a death project,

  • I would have liked to have seen him to show more of the actual sewing and assembling of the cloak...because I got a little confused when he was talking about the collar.

  • omg i so wanna make that!

  • OMG I'm super bummed out! I loved that look but I'm too novice to attempt this. Please make some new projects about outer wear, we are fast approaching fall and winter?

  • i stopped watch when i saw death.. lol

  • exactly... DEATH

  • I absolutely LOVE this man.. I'll ask him to marry me

he is so detailed, knows a bunch and (most important) knows how to explain things... the project is great, but I'll have to watch it again, cause I was too distracted loving the lovely instructor

  • Wow, finally a video that is not about cutting up an old t-shirt :o)

I took a class with Kenneth King a few years ago and he is very knowledgeable. Great job,Threadbanger.

  • Corine should go on Project Runway..

  • I went to every book store I knew of in a 10 mile radius here in New Haven, CT and I could not find his book. I finally ordered it through Amazon for cheaper than B&N's member price. Sadly, I guess not many book stores have it yet. I can't wait to get it on Saturday!!!

  • that was great! I wish you had more detailed video though, especially in the end.

  • I nearly died when the experience meter went off the meter. Great Cloak though!

  • DEATH!

  • Threadbanger - what happened to good ole - lets make a bag out of old socks or how to make a hat using discarded toilet rolls???? :D Only jesting - its great you make vids for different scales of talent. Im of the glue variety. As you have probably guessed.

  • wow, this guy did it the long and hard way. HOWEVER he is doing the "couture" way.

when i learned patternmaking and knocking off, we skipped all of the steps of using that organza and threading on the actual garment. we just used the spikey tracing wheel (aka knockoff tool), laid it on top of the brown packaging paper (or meat butcher paper) and traced it onto there. then afterwards we would "true" up the lines and add in the grainlines etc. my teacher called it the "brooklyn"/hood way. EASY!

  • Yes, the needle wheel is a good way to copy something that can easily be laid flat like this cape, but this method will serve well for more complicated garments. If you have a vintage Dior New Look jacket, of one of the more esoteric Issey Miyake garments, things that don't lie flat well, knowing this method gets an accurate pattern. The needle wheel will also permanently damage some silks. So, having more than one method at your disposal gives you more options.

  • excellent points

however, i guess for me it doesn't make too much of a difference because i'm plus sized and i would have to alter the pattern majorly anyways..

  • True, but the organza technique is a great skill to know; some designs are difficult to copy flat.

  • Haha dorks

  • "Dorks",happen to be one of the most creative-type people ever. :)

    Peace <3

  • LOL- love the beginning!!

  • omg! so interesting!

when i have the time and space i would love to try! :D

  • Finally, DEATH! Just wondering, will this pattern be available at the Thread Banger Instructables page? The step-by-step layout helps a lot with such complex projects. Thanks again for the video!

  • AHH!!! THE DEATH LEVEL!!!

  • that man know what hes talking about, wonder-full advise, on pressing and i would love to know more about copying a garment with out taking it apart. not that i didn't get what he was showing us, im just being greedy;) such a wonderful tidbit of info, i sooo need more...

  • wow very chic.

  • oh dear thats me out I am only a beginner

  • death o_o??!

  • Finally! A DEATH LEVEL PROJECT! AAAH!

  • I love this episode ^_^ its quite serious and I'm not upto that level of sewing, but it will be a great project to try once I feel that my sewing skills are good enough ^_^ and thanks for the great tips! Thank you guys for a great episode ^_^

  • No problem! Also keep in mind you can use fabric that is easier to work with.

  • Oh that would be a great idea! do you think it would work on softer fabrics like silk? or does it have to be thicker? thanks again :)

  • i may never make that garment, but thanks for pointing out considerations regarding velvet and satin and the cross-utilization of both materials. i just got the janome tb-12 machine and the rather concise info about footer choice and tension and grain would have helped me last week when i was sewing down faux-rabbitfur over fleece (got the needle pattern right though!). next time i won't have to cut out stitches and handsew to release buckling.

thanks so much, all of you. i learned new skills.

  • dang i so wanteed those spools of thread.

I went to a janome supplier to buy a machine and he never heard of the threadbanger machines.

I ended up getting the Janome Magnolia 7330 which is the same as teh TB30 but has ugly yellow flowers on it. Poop.

great machine though. i couldn;t have asked for better.

  • They're only available online... but all Janome machines are great.

As for the flowers, one word: stickers.

  • rob looked pretty spiffy there!

  • OH I LOVE IT! :)

thank you thank you thank you!!

  • DEATH!!!!!

  • whats an organza?

  • some expensive fabric that isn't necessary to use to "knock off" a garment to create a pattern

  • Thank you.

  • Even though it is quite tricky, he made it look so easy. Great tutorial!

  • Not everyone who watches Threadbanger are self-made, hobbyist designers, Jimmy. You know, some people watch this to learn from other people's originality. Wheee!

  • Come on now Jimmy.

It's an expert level tutorial, and also a very practical sewing trick.

It's a GOOD episode for SERIOUS sewers!

Do you realize you can change a pattern after you've copied it? I don't see what isn't DIY about this at all!

You're a part of the "threadbanger is going downhill" idea, and I'm not disagreeing or attacking you for this.

But you're really not helping by assuming each episode is horrible trash!

I still enjoy the show very much! Wheee!

  • Oh suck it up. They made the pattern themselves, that being DIY alone. And they're really just giving you the basic tools to use for yourself in the future. you can make a pattern from something then change it however you want to make it your own out of whatever fabric you want. This is DIY at its best really.

  • Okay, well I'll give you the part about making the pattern.

I'm not saying that Threadbanger shouldn't post this, or that people shouldn't watch it, I was just presenting my opinion.

  • great tutorial. he definitely knew what he was talking about. i was afraid he was going to leave out some important details such as the treatment of satin and velvet in regards to pressing, sewing, and making sure to stay true to the grain line. it was like being in class all over again! loved it!

  • This was by far my most favorite episode

  • ooh Rob you look good with out your hat on! HEHE! Good tutorial only wish i was better at sewing! :(

  • The chatter in the background kept freaking me out. I thought there were people outside my apartment.

  • that turned out really pretty

  • Can you get the thread if you buy the machine from Ebay or an online source?

    I love Ken King!

  • You spelled duchess wrong.

  • 0.0 you lost me at DEATH!!!!

  • velvet and satin?! DEATH!

  • wow that rating was beyond death! what could be beyond death...hmmm... pure burning, agonizing, hellish confusion! that should be a new rating! jk nice to see some fancy stuff once in a while

  • I don't tend to make many clothes, I just alter the generic ones I buy to make them fit right but it is fun to make pattens for exclusive and limited clothes. For instance the first coat I planned on making was a Sony PSP army style jacket. I like to do it from reference photos rather than using a garment because you make it slightly your own and don't feel the need to keep shapes that don't fit well.

the threading technique seems interesting though

  • Is that supposed to be the Duchess? as in the aristocratic title? rather than a odd word that i guess would mean a Dutch woman? like the archaic word Jewess for a jewish woman.

  • tracing wheels are weird o.o

  • ok, I have a knot on my brain now hahaha

  • hah is this the first death rating?

  • I love it. I love it! I love it! is really beutifull and I gona make one!!!!

  • Death?! Ahahahahaha!

  • OMG WTF @.@

  • lol@the death rating! wow dude went to town on this pattern! that is an AWESOME cape!

  • ?? i won't even attempt LOL

  • you guys are so funny

  • I don't have a cloak, and nor do any of my friends. Is there any other way to get patterns?

  • The pattern will be available for free on our website by Monday.

  • Beautiful!

  • Comment removed

  • omg i adore this thanks

  • its not so hard...the hard part is coping all that information to organza...u could just draw your own pattern.

  • Yay! Hard stuff! Good!

  • DANG THAT FREAKING DEATH TO THE A Z

  • yup that's death rating alright

  • awesome awesome!!

  • FINALLY!! Thanks guys!! I love the easier stuff too but it was about time we saw a "Death" level project for us "Death" level threadheads. I think I might check out his book when I'm in the bookstore next. Thanks again!! (RayKDesigns on the forums)

  • oh no

waaaaaay too much for a newbie like me. haha.

    it's a cool cloak though!

  • yay, death!

  • awesomeness......love cloaks and capes love velvet too.....great as always threadbanger...

  • that was great!

i am deffinently gunna try to make that...

  • he uses cute pins.

  • First death difficulty! xD

  • Wow, huge thanks to Kenneth King for taking the time to do this for us ThreadBangers!! :-) Fabulous!!

  • This is so cool! I will absolutely try to make this! ^-^

  • hey! expect a video coming from ME! cant wait.
