Does anyone have the pattern for this, still? I emailed Corrine, but she must not be offering the pattern via email anymore, so if anyone else had it, and would be willing to email it to me, could they @reply this message, or send me a note? Thanks!
I was thinking if I can find a commerical pattern for this kind of cloak, it won't be a deadly sewing project? It seems like the first pattern transfering part is really difficult. I always watch this video when I have difficulty sleeping :-) Thanks to the designer.
@Chocolateaddict98 well, maybe my English teachers were wrong, but they always corrected me and told me it was properly. It's an adjective, and you seem to be using proper like so. o.o *shrugs* Anyways, English isn't even my Mother language, I shouldn't care that much. XD
@Chocolateaddict98 It's still properly, or maybe "in a proper way". o.o And no, it's more like 90% of the people in Youtube, 70% is giving a lot of credit. XD
I would have liked to have seen him to show more of the actual sewing and assembling of the cloak...because I got a little confused when he was talking about the collar.
OMG I'm super bummed out! I loved that look but I'm too novice to attempt this. Please make some new projects about outer wear, we are fast approaching fall and winter?
I absolutely LOVE this man.. I'll ask him to marry me
he is so detailed, knows a bunch and (most important) knows how to explain things... the project is great, but I'll have to watch it again, cause I was too distracted loving the lovely instructor
I went to every book store I knew of in a 10 mile radius here in New Haven, CT and I could not find his book. I finally ordered it through Amazon for cheaper than B&N's member price. Sadly, I guess not many book stores have it yet. I can't wait to get it on Saturday!!!
Threadbanger - what happened to good ole - lets make a bag out of old socks or how to make a hat using discarded toilet rolls???? :D Only jesting - its great you make vids for different scales of talent. Im of the glue variety. As you have probably guessed.
wow, this guy did it the long and hard way. HOWEVER he is doing the "couture" way.
when i learned patternmaking and knocking off, we skipped all of the steps of using that organza and threading on the actual garment. we just used the spikey tracing wheel (aka knockoff tool), laid it on top of the brown packaging paper (or meat butcher paper) and traced it onto there. then afterwards we would "true" up the lines and add in the grainlines etc. my teacher called it the "brooklyn"/hood way. EASY!
Yes, the needle wheel is a good way to copy something that can easily be laid flat like this cape, but this method will serve well for more complicated garments. If you have a vintage Dior New Look jacket, of one of the more esoteric Issey Miyake garments, things that don't lie flat well, knowing this method gets an accurate pattern. The needle wheel will also permanently damage some silks. So, having more than one method at your disposal gives you more options.
Finally, DEATH! Just wondering, will this pattern be available at the Thread Banger Instructables page? The step-by-step layout helps a lot with such complex projects. Thanks again for the video!
that man know what hes talking about, wonder-full advise, on pressing and i would love to know more about copying a garment with out taking it apart. not that i didn't get what he was showing us, im just being greedy;) such a wonderful tidbit of info, i sooo need more...
I love this episode ^_^ its quite serious and I'm not upto that level of sewing, but it will be a great project to try once I feel that my sewing skills are good enough ^_^ and thanks for the great tips! Thank you guys for a great episode ^_^
i may never make that garment, but thanks for pointing out considerations regarding velvet and satin and the cross-utilization of both materials. i just got the janome tb-12 machine and the rather concise info about footer choice and tension and grain would have helped me last week when i was sewing down faux-rabbitfur over fleece (got the needle pattern right though!). next time i won't have to cut out stitches and handsew to release buckling.

Sigh.
Threadbanger has been reduced to patterns. How very un-DIY.
To me patterns are like saying "Hey. I'm going to Do It Myself, except with someone else's rules and that way it's far more safe from fuckups, and the adventurous originality that is figuring out how to transform this garment is lost forever! Wheee!"
Not everyone who watches Threadbanger are self-made, hobbyist designers, Jimmy. You know, some people watch this to learn from other people's originality. Wheee!
Oh suck it up. They made the pattern themselves, that being DIY alone. And they're really just giving you the basic tools to use for yourself in the future. you can make a pattern from something then change it however you want to make it your own out of whatever fabric you want. This is DIY at its best really.
great tutorial. he definitely knew what he was talking about. i was afraid he was going to leave out some important details such as the treatment of satin and velvet in regards to pressing, sewing, and making sure to stay true to the grain line. it was like being in class all over again! loved it!
wow that rating was beyond death! what could be beyond death...hmmm... pure burning, agonizing, hellish confusion! that should be a new rating! jk nice to see some fancy stuff once in a while
I don't tend to make many clothes, I just alter the generic ones I buy to make them fit right but it is fun to make pattens for exclusive and limited clothes. For instance the first coat I planned on making was a Sony PSP army style jacket. I like to do it from reference photos rather than using a garment because you make it slightly your own and don't feel the need to keep shapes that don't fit well.
Is that supposed to be the Duchess? as in the aristocratic title? rather than a odd word that i guess would mean a Dutch woman? like the archaic word Jewess for a jewish woman.

excellent points
however, i guess for me it doesn't make too much of a difference because i'm plus sized and i would have to alter the pattern majorly anyways..

It's an expert level tutorial, and also a very practical sewing trick.
It's a GOOD episode for SERIOUS sewers!
Do you realize you can change a pattern after you've copied it? I don't see what isn't DIY about this at all!
You're a part of the "threadbanger is going downhill" idea, and I'm not disagreeing or attacking you for this.
But you're really not helping by assuming each episode is horrible trash!
