So the auto hold basically leaves the parking brake on and when you hit the gas it releases the parking brake? But what if its dark out? Does your brake light on the rear stay on to let people know your braking?

No, the way autohold works is that when the car comes to a rest, the brakes are applied just enough to hold the car in place...the brake lights are not engaged. The parking brake is fully engaged when either the driver's door is opened or the driver unbuckles their seat belt as a precautionary measure. Thanks for viewing.
