  • This is such a brilliant video. I cannot believe that I haven't seen this adaptation! Really good job, it actually brought a little tear to my eye.

  • @SironaFlett Thank you so much! I'm very glad you enjoyed it. It's a surprisingly good adaptation, though not entire canon-correct. Thanks again!

  • you this song is actuly called hurt

  • @werfox666 Yep, it is. The video is called What Have I Become, but the song is called Hurt. :) Thanks.

  • I love this video, I have had it saved to my playlists for over a year and keep watching it. Very well done - I love canon but I love this, too! Nice interpretation. =)

  • @jamiedrilling Oh, thank you so much! That's quite an honor. I'm so glad you enjoy it as much as you do. :) Yes, it's the same for me! Thanks again!

  • Hmmm. Have never seen this adaption, but I am intrigued. -trots off to google-

This is a lovely video! It never would have occurred to me to pair this two, but they seem to fit beautifully, and you are very perceptive to make such a connection.

The editing job is wonderful and very impressive.

  • @aliveinchrist13 It's quite good, I'd recommend it.

Thank you! Yes, the emotions that Holmes expresses in this version, a world-weary pain and a loneliness, really brought this song to mind.

Thank you so much, I'm so glad you enjoyed. :) (Also, love your username! :D)

  • wow i dedicate this 2 an old friend..... u know who u r

  • holmes did not use opium.

  • Very true! In the books, never, but in this movie... well... ;)

  • An awful Holmes. Not a patch on JB

  • Well, I don't think he was 'awful', (not like some people we're gonna see around Chrstimas time, if you get my meaning), but yeah, Jeremy Brett's definitely way better. :D

  • You know what I take back what I said. I saw this the other day on a repeat and it wasent to bad. He did a pretty good job. So I do take back my coments and am sorry to Rupert Everett. He did an ok job. 5 out of 10 for his perfromance. An who r we seeing round Christmas mate? I am at a lose to know who it could be who is awful? Noal Edmunds?

  • Cool, glad you enjoyed the movie.

Oh, I just meant Robert Downey Jr. Yeeaah...

  • actually downey is potraying holmes right as holmes was full of himself and occasionally as desrcibed by watson "get burst of joy after solving one of our cases".it's unfortunate but a fact brett didn't potray holmes correctly nor have they done a sherlock holmes film where the action was at it's level. But the new one seems to have crazy holmes down and it's action matches much of the action through the series.

  • I don't mean to pick a fight with you, but I disagree. Yes, Holmes did get bursts of joy, so did JB. Brett portrayed Holmes as full of himself on many occasions. I will agree that it will be nice to see some more action, but I dearly hope they don't sacrifice the deduction and mental problems for the action, as that would take away the point of Sherlock Holmes. It's also not a fact that JB didn't perform Holmes correctly, it is your opinion, which is completely different. Cont.

  • They didn't sacrafice anything they showed his brain more than the action.

  • :D I said it looked that way, at least from the previews. Now that I've seen it, I couldn't agree more! XD

  • In summary, RDJ is too short, too dirty, and too different to fit the role, in my opinion, as far as I've seen from recent trailers. Worst of all, he's been sexed up by Hollywood, a crime in my books. Holmes is, was, and should stay an asexual character. Thanks for the comment.

  • Couldn't agree with you more!!! I think RDJ is a very talented actor, but he just doesn't fit the tall, thin, and clean image of Holmes. And even though I'm a huge fan of slash, I have always believed Holmes to be an asexual character because that's how he's portrayed in the original literature.

  • :D I agree. I've got nothing against RDJ as an actor, just his physical appearance doesn't scream Holmes to me. XD Yeah!

  • Too dirty? holmes was know as a slob too different/ the same thing was said about brett himself at his time and now everyone loves him i don't think he would want anyone to trash a holmes movie closer than his.Sexed up? he sudecuded a maid in one story honestly there are so many angry things i wnat to say!.Holmes was asexual ut much like in the stories he saw irene as the one the woman.Honestly you ropinion was off on all round's and it doesn't seem you read a singal short story i'm sorry to say

  • He was always described as clean in his habits in the books. It was his living area that was in disarray, not his physical being. That movie, (keep in mind, I've seen it now and I love it) was based on a graphic novel, not the books, so obviously it is not closer than JB's version. Yeah, he did seduce a maid, but he didn't have feelings for her. He didn't have feelings for Irene NORTON either, he merely respected her for being the one woman who outsmarted him. I have read all the books.

  • Actually no he wasn't very clean unless a man who keeps his home dirty and during times he had no case he shut down kinda.I mean this holmes was dirty and this isn't based on the novel that's a common though but untrue it was the reason they did the film! yes but not what they based it on as said at comic con by downey they though about it and when the novel came out they said it's borught back now we can try mabey the studios will listen. This actually was close holmes did his experiment's.

  • Well, okay, whatever. Like I said, I enjoyed the movie, so... whatever. We're all entitled to our own opinions.

  • Had big action much like the stories the movie was close and it doesn take place during canon as it references all of them really get your fact's straight.

  • I enjoyed the action of the film. Referencing canon does not make something canon. The story of the movie is in no way canon, just as the movie above that I used to make that music video is not canon. The Granada television show was considerably closer to the books themselves, containing the actual stories of the books, making them the closest canon adaptations, much closer than the new movie. Don't insult me, I don't insult you.

  • I'm not a big fan of Rupert Everett as Holmes, but I really, really liked this video. And thanks for introducing me to an awesome song, btw.

  • Yeah, he's not the most canonical of Holmeses... :D Thank you very much! No problem, glad you enjoyed.

  • Oh, that is an absolutley ingenious clip. So applicable to the story. Thanks a lot for it!

  • Oh, well, thank you! And you're welcome! :D

  • quite liked this fan vid. I usually don't care for them much, but this was good. I LOVE this cover, by the AMAZING 'man in black' Jonny Cash, of "Dirt" by Nine Inch Nails

  • Thank you, that's a big compliment. :)

  • yeah i found out sherlock holmes took opium the other day lol

opium is pretty bad though, kills tonnes of people

  • Actually, the Holmes from the book, the canon Holmes didn't take opium. It's a common misconception, that's probably one of the reasons why it's in this movie. Holmes took a 7% solution of cocaine in the canon.

  • woah woah woah okay, i'm just saying on what i seen on inspection.

  • :D Don't worry about it, just being informative. Yeah, you can't take everything in the movies at face value, a lot of it is invented to make it 'more interesting'. :)

  • love how this Watson doesn't allow himself to be objected to Holmes' crap :) he sticks it to the man!

    i still love Holmes though!

  • Yeah. XD Heehee.

    ;) Same here.

  • i found the entire film on you tube - did you find it? this is a gorgeous video, thanks

  • That's awesome! :) Glad someone posted it... You're welcome, and thank you! :D

  • where did you find it?

  • this is the perfect song for Inspector Holmes...you did an excellent job! i luv this movie because it really strips Holme's character of all it's sugar coating and shows you how raw that kind of a life can be. well done!

  • :) Thank you, I'm glad you enjoyed. (Just a heads up, Holmes isn't an inspector. :D) It's a really good movie. I enjoy it. Thanks again!

  • omg i love this video ! really its awesome ! and my favourite sherlock holmes actor is rupert everett ! and the movie is awesome ,too!!!

it comes to my favos and 5 stars ;)

  • XD Thank you very much, glad you enjoyed! Rupert Everett is great. :D Thanks again!

  • Love what you did with this song and SH. I have not had the chance to catch this movie yet but this vid makes me want to buy it right away.

  • Thank you! It's a good movie, hope you get to see it. ;D

  • Love the video! great job btw!

I cant tell you how much I've been searching this movie and I only found like 2 clips!! I really want to see the whole movie but they dont show it anymore!!

  • Thank you very much!

I hope you get to see it sometime, it's very good. :)

  • This is really good. I keep coming back to it. Really well put together. The song compliments the mood of the images completely.

  • Thank you! I'm very glad you enjoyed it! :) I myself was surprised at how well the tone of the song matches the tone of the entire film itself! Thanks again!

  • Hello you !!

Youtube thought I might like to view this one. Lovely as always Erika.

So many people sobbing over your work... what a gift :) xx

  • Hi there! :D Well, I'm glad Youtube is sending you my way, I always love your comments. Thank you very much, as always!

  • in the short stories wasnt holmes a cocain addict?

  • Well, there some small dispute as to whether he was really 'addicted' or just did it recreationally, but... basically, yeah. :)

  • I adore Sherlock Holmes so much and i had always thought the Jeremy Brett was always the best Holmes how i watched this the other the night, i found it by chance and Rupert Everett was amazing as him.

  • Same here. Jeremy will always be my favorite and absolute definitive SH, but Rupert Everett does an amazing job! XD

  • But of course every true Sherlockian knows Holmes didn't do opium....XDDD

  • But of course! This movie is the first I'd ever seen of Sherlock Holmes, so I didn't know any better at the time, but I do since seeing it and I see a lot of flaws in it compared to the canon. It's still really good, though. :D

  • hey, do you have the whole movie? Ive been dying to see it!! My mom was watching this a few years ago, and it looked so interesting!

  • Yeah, I do! It's a really good film, I'd recommend it. You might be able to find it at your local library, that's where I found it originally. Also, it's available on Amazon for $14.99, new. :D

  • cool thanks! yea, I checked my library but the didnt have it :( I only saw the ending, but I want to see the Whole thing!!

  • Bummer, I hate it when that happens!

  • Actually the song is Called Hurt and it's by trent reznor off the album the downward spiral released in 1994ish. It was covered by Johnny cash and dueted with David Bowie during the tour with Nine inch nails Trent Reznor.

  • Thanks for the info! :D

  • love this song. but they are in love -_- at least that's what i think

  • It's a good song, one of my favorites. Well, you can think that, I was just trying to convey that this video wasn't meant to be showing slash... Heh.

  • Wow! This song fits this really well! Thank you for posting this!

  • It does, doesn't it? ;) You're welcome, and thank you!

  • WHATS THIS SONG CALLED AND WHOS IT BY?

  • Hurt by Johnny Cash. :D

  • Hey this was a really good idea! And by the way: I always liked buddy storys more than romances. I'm not 100% sure why... However great video!

  • Thanks! ;) Yeah, I agree! (At least, sometimes. Heehee. Can't always resist those romances...) Glad you liked it!

  • Case of the silk Stalking...I've heard good things aboutit.

I love this video thank you for making this and posting.

  • It's very good!

Thank you! And you're welcome! Glad you liked it!

  • I haven't seen this movie yet but I like this video! Fantastic song choice too. I do hope you'll make another with RE as Holmes! :D

  • Oh, make sure you set aside some time to watch it. It's a great movie! Thanks! Yeah, I'm planning on it. :)

  • love this song!! hear it every day on a real life soap in the netherlands!! cool u posted it on youtube!

  • Haha, me too.

  • I think that Jeremy Brett is the best Sherlock Holmes ever

  • I agree 100%! :D

  • Jeremy Brett the best sherlock holmes ever? Outrageous! No i am just kidding, hes very good. But i also thought Rupert was very good also. Incidentelly you can buy the DVD of the silk stocking at HMV if you live in England. But very good above footage. Thankyou for sharing.

  • can someone post the whole movie please?

  • I can't, at least. It's against the copyright laws on YouTube to post a whole movie and I can't get my account deleted. These are the only files of these videos I have left. Sorry!

  • Search The Pirate Bay for the torrent. I'm seeding it 24/7.

  • Hmm... This Dr. Watson has warmer temper than the one played by David Bruke or Edward Hardwicke...

  • Yeah! I call him... Angry!Watson! :D

  • Eriksoneandonly Thank you for making this! This song is ABSOLUTELY PERFECT for Holmes! While I enjoyed SH & THE CASE OF THE SILK STOCKING. I personally thought that Everett had less charm and more arggance to the way he played Holmes. Brett could do both without anyone noticing. Anyway 5/5.

  • Aw, you're welcome! Thank you! I'm so glad you enjoyed it. Actually, I agree with you. Everett was the first Holmes I was ever exposed to, so I thank him for that, but yes, JB is definitely the BEST. XD Thanks again!

  • You're welcome:)

  • cha5, I didn't notice that! Thank you! I often think of Holmes as a gentleman in his 40s. Btw, Holmes was born on Jan 6th 1854. Everett looked a bit too "good" for Holmes though. I wish he had put on some make-up to make him a bit "less handsome".

  • Actually, I think they did do a little to make him look less handsome, but I agree, it wasn't quite enough. There are still people who think Holmes is a sex symbol because of him. ;)

  • Arrgh! you're so right Soyamilk,

I don't know why I was thinking it was December,

Jan 6 1854 is Holmes birthday no question.

  • ten times better than N.I.N., in my opinion. Cash was the man. You can feel his emotion when he sings sad songs. Was this a movie or show? What is "Slash"? I'm glad you don't take drugs, if you did you probably wouldn't have been able to make this awesome video.

  • Oh, yes, much better than the Nine Inch Nails cover. It's a movie called Sherlock Holmes and the Case of the Silk Stocking. Slash is a computer term for male/male gay relationships. Yeah, I'm glad I don't take drugs too. Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it!

  • ummm...actually N.I.N. was the original. Cash covered it on his VERY last album. But it was Reznor who sang it first. When and where did the movie come out?

  • Whoa, confusing. I didn't know that. :D Um... It was originally aired on BBC in 2004(TV Movie), but it came out recently on DVD in America. :D

  • It was a movie for PBS called Sherlock Holmes and the Case of the Silk Stocking.

  • N.I.N wrote it, Cash sang it better though. Go watch the Cash vid too, it made me and my step dad start sobbing, and neither of us are "delicate" types...

    Liking Holmes there.

  • Wonderful video! the clips you chose worked really well with the song! Everett did a great Holmes in my opinion! (Thanks for the non-slash reminder! Holmes and Watson are JUST FRIENDS people!)

  • Thank you so much! I agree! (Yeah, I'm glad you agree with me. JUST FRIENDS! XD) I'm glad you enjoyed it! :D

  • Also, forgot to mention, but I LOVE YOUR USERNAME! XD

  • Thanks for putting this up Eric. I thought rupert everett made an excellent holmes (The case of the silk stocking) easily the best work he has ever done in his career. In fact i would rate him as good here if not better than anyone who has portrayed holmes and i include basil rathbone when i say that.

It will be intresting if everett will in the future do anything to match this. I definetely think he suits period dramas more, but we will see.

  • You're very welcome! (My name's Erika, XD Not a guy.) Yes, he did! I agree! I hope that Everett makes more Sherlock Holmeses (Hopefully also with Ian Hart (Watson in Silk Stocking).) Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it!

  • What, even better than Jeremy Brett?

  • Hardly. ;) No one can beat JB.

  • Yay!

  • Has this series been released on DVD in the states?

This was a BBC production wasn't it?

  • Yeah, it was! It's been released, hope you can find it! I love this movie so much...

  • Thanks I'll look for it,

    I'm a hardcore Sherlockian

and I never miss a worthwhile

    Holmes film.

  • I haven't seen this film yet

but I've heard it's well worth seeing,

    One thing about Rupert Everett,

He's actually just about the right age for Holmes

unlike most of the actors who've portrayed him

    Rathbone, Brett, etc.

Holmes was born in Dec 1854,

He was 25 when he first teamed up with Watson in 1881,

He retired at the age of 47 in 1903.

So Everett is just the right age for the part.

  • That's really cool. Thanks for sharing! It's a really good film.

  • Rupert was so icily gorgeous in this dark retelling of Sherlock Holmes! It was a very memorable film. Thank you for this amazingly weird music video!

  • Heeheehee, I completely agree! Haha, your welcome, and thank you! Glad you liked it!

  • rupert everett was quite spectacular in that film! he really shows the dark side of Holmes magnificently! and your vid showed this very well :D i love u Holmes!

  • Oh, yes, I agree! Thank you very much, I'm glad you liked it! I LOVE YOU TOO, HOLMES! XD

  • Oh, I just love Rupert Everett as Sherlock Holmes! Great video, it very nearly made me cry!

  • Me too! I'm glad you liked it! Thank you!

  • I spluttered my drink across the screen with laughter at first .Then I wanted to cry and Rupert's sad , beautiful face just made me weep.

  • Hee, that's not exactly the effect I'm going for here. Isn't Rupert just... adorable? And Ian too. Can't forget Ian. :D

  • omg i think that song was made for Holmes! I loved it, it made me cry too. My grandma says we're related to Johnny Cash. haha I wish. That was great and very emotional thank you!

  • Wasn't it, though? :D I'm so glad you enjoyed it! Thanks so much.

  • Excellent job Erika

  • Why, thank you! Glad you liked it!

  • great song choice, makes me cry every time too;)

    thanks for sharing

  • Thank you so much! I'm glad you liked it. :)
