  • i like the volume that the bass is at.... but the mix is a bit muddy and has a lot of phasing.... besides from that its good... but the phasing man.. its really prominent.

  • very very goood!! :D

  • dave mustaine has 7 acounts.

  • What's with all the phasing? Really kills it for me. The general low-end is also too muddy.

The bass guitar itself is clearer though, which is very cool. But overall it's too messy sounding for my liking.

  • It's not as sharp as the original, but I'm still headbaning so hard my neck's breaking.

  • the old one is original blackend is just as good from my point of view.i jam it in my car everyday and i dont need any remaster or remix bullshit to jam to it.this sounds no better than the original.jus my opinion.and yes,i really listend to it and payed attention to this version before puttin my nput.

  • @nations1992 Honestly, you can't make it sound any better really unless you can get along of the raw audio. I'm still nowhere near satisfied with this mix. I think a much better job could by a professional like Steve Hoffman with the original master. He remastered puppets and lightning, but those already sounded pretty decent. Justice is really the album that should get that treatment.

  • The bass is a bit more prominent with this remaster. Still not as clear as one would like. Still, good remaster. Just goes to show that there is actually a bass under all those guitars.

  • i like that you can hear the bass, but metallica should really do what dave mustain did with the early megadeth albums (i say early because i think countdown, youth, and criptic shoulda been left alone) and remaster them with todays production capabilities. i mean really do um up nice. strip um down to the bare recording and start from scratch with the mastering. i mean dont get me wrong i love the origionals, but imagine justice with the black albums production quallity. fuck it'd be amazing

  • Holy fuck it sound so great. It really makes my dick hard!

  • metallica truly did die with cliff ......

  • This sounds much better than the thin, and annoying sound on the original.

  • Naaah... Let me sill being happy with the original version...

  • DO ALL THE ALBUM IF YOU CAN :)

  • Wow.. so this is what it sounds like with actual bass

    like

  • wow man i would hump your ass for free for uploading this!

how can i get the entire album in remastered shape?

  • This sounds about a million times better than the actual release.

  • Meh.

  • @Me04120 What software did u use to make this badass remaster?

  • it would be better if the guitar sound was different, it just sounds kinda bad like this cuz the bass comes wrongly out of there :D

  • This sounds a little boomy imo. But it sounds way better

  • something I am sure alot of people havent done is have the guitar intro played FWD not backwards like you hear on the album. It's pretty cool hearing it the right way not backwards.

  • lol like dave mustaine gave them all drugs and make them perform inside a beer can lol this sound is crap man

  • a Lot of bass... dont like.

  • sweeeeet quality! its not any different than the original, but some sound fixing. bass is louder, which is better, and u can hear the drums more I think.

  • sorry but the original mix is perfect in terms of bass - it wasn't needed! If you think it sounds shit you just need to turn the volume up/buy better speakers!

Nothing can beat that awesome dry sound of an esp played through a scooped boogie :)

  • This might be the biggest bullshit I've ever read. The whole album sounded so hollow without Jason. The people who say, "music doesn't need bass," don't know shit about music.

  • No music does need bass, its just this album that doesn't (well it does need the small amount it has, I would never say it needed to be all the way off). Jason added nothing to it.

  • This album most certainly does need bass. It sounds like it's being played through a hallway without it. It's too hollow, and Metallica, as die-hard of a fan as I am of theirs, were being real douchebags doing this to Jason.

  • like the original song but we can hear more the bass a little.. :) nice job

  • I like that you can hear the bass more clearly in it, especially because when you just listen on a regular stereo, you can't hardly hear any.

However, part of the problem with the Justice album is the drum sound. I hate that ticky little kick drum sound Lars has. If someone could re EQ the drum sound, I'd really be happy with it.

  • Muy buen trabajo. could you do this on AJFA or frayed ends of sanity?

  • Did you speed it up at all?

  • Finally, bass is at a good level. A lot of AJFA custom remasters I've heard, it sounds like the guy is trying to counter the low bass in the original by putting it way too high, but this is done pretty nicely.

  • wow nice quality 5 *

  • what instruments on ajfa are way to quiet, i cant drum to them through my amp because they so quiet, i can only drum to DM or ST anger coz they nice and loud :-)

  • waaaay too much reverb and can hear the instruments flanging, not done very well

  • why isnt this mix 5 stars? this shit sounds amazing best AJFA mix i heard...just slap on some headphones

  • The fact that the bass is way too loud is false.

Even tough i like the original AJFA sound.

(And the fact that all instruments are too loud is a huge false too)

  • This sounds fucking awesome.

  • I agree. And Justice For All was a big disappointment when it first came out because it sounded like they didn't have a bass player. They were missing that ponderous, foreboding sound that made Metallica so powerful.

  • is that why most people think justice is the best album?

  • all instruments in AJFA are to loud!

  • False?

  • what??? what is false?? O.O

  • Dude you aren't very experienced with remasters and remixes. When I was as niave as you when it came to remixing, I thought turning the bass up would solve all my problems but it doesn't. The drums still sound like shit

  • meh @ this remaster. get better monitors/room and 10 more years experience, then redo it and upload. ;)

  • Finally a mix on youtube I can listen to!

  • I like the mix man. Good Job.

  • bravo!!!! its stupid...

  • that sounds great man!

  • sounds like crap

  • Can actually hear the bass. No treble though sounds like crap.

  • Good custom, But the problem is when people try to remaster the justice album in there own way is that they turn the bass up a little to high. Even Cliff or Justin themself wouldn't want that. Good custom though dude.

  • Haha...Justin...

  • Typo dude, you know who i ment. (Jason)

  • yeah satan kick his ignorant ass for that !how could he KNEW it if he SPELLED it right? his way of talking is gay

  • The lack of bass in the original AJFA recording is due to differences in playing style between Newsted and Burton. While Burton used his fingers and played what could be considered more of a bass line, Newsted used a pick attempted to play everything the guitar was playing as hard as he could, as fast as he could, thus making the bass tracks sound shitty. It was suggested that he play his parts differently but he refused so the guitar and drums were beefed up to compensate for erased bass tracks

  • james's scooped out mids and lars's ridiculously loud kick drum also helped kill jason's bass

  • i gotta agree with HBK1337

  • No that's not true. It's already been said that they turned his bass down as a hazing of him. It has nothing to do with playing like a guitar line.

  • I think I read somewhere a while back that it was due to his playing style and how it came out in the mix, but what you are telling me sounds much more believable. Thanks for the info.

  • Nah man, they disliked the original bassist (Ron mcgoveny) because he played the bass line like a guitar line.

It wasn't anything to do with his playnig style, because they inteviewed quite a few bassists.

There were problems with the mixing quality on AJFA, but it was mainly the hazing. Like when they pied Newstead on just about every birthday.

  • Dude, they pie Rob Lars and Kirk too. Plus thats not entirely true, during Justice, Hetfield's rythm tone was scooped meaning very high bass and cut mids. This means that when Newstead put down his tracks, he was working on the same frequency as Hetfield guitar.

  • I don't think the guitar was simply scooped like everyone thinks.. I mean yeah, it was, but it doesn't sound that simple to me... I think it sounds this way because the guitar track was probably miced a million times and they just sorted through them to get the the meaner sounding frequencies... I dunno, does that theory make sense at all? or should I work on it? I dunno, just never heard anyone sound like this by scooping the mids like everyone says, including myself.

  • Uh, no that doesn't make sense. Miking something a million times is gonna be the same track no matter what. They layered guitar parts so two guitars are playing perfectly in sync compared to the 1 bass guitar. If they layered it that many times all you'd hear was guitar.

  • Either you don't get what I'm saying or you just flat out disagree... the only thing I KNOW, is that scooping mids isn't gonna get you AJFA guitar tone.. good luck with trying.

  • Lmao your an idiot. Of course scooping mids wont get you the tone. They have multi-thousand dollar equipment dumbass. I'm telling you there's a GW magazine where they ask james all about it and he talks about all the gear he used and how the scooped mids worked on the same frequency of the bass.

  • Oh and like I didn't know that. Still the multi thousand dollar equipment probably has a lot more to do with the sound than your stupid proposal of scooping the mids. I'm sure you're sound sucks balls, man.

  • No shit dude. You're sure my sound sucks? I have a Marshall JVM with 4 celestion vintage 30's in 2 different speaker cabs. All running through thousand dollar guitars. Grow the fuck up bro. OF course the thousand dollar equipment has a lot to do with the sound. I never said that you could take any amp and cut the mids and you'd have the AJFA. Its just a core part of what the sound is made up of.

  • you're gay..wtf do you know about sound engineering and production studio techniques. Scooped mids..high dollar equipment. fuck off .. If that was the case, how much did the equipment cost during St.Anger..Dude shut the fuck up..you know cock in your ass

  • Haha yeah dude you totally know what your talking about. Don't believe me about the engineering? Look up Mesa Boogie's and tell me they're cheap dumbass. Learn your shit bro. You can literally hear the distortion from when the bass peaks from the guitar because of how high the bass and treble is.

  • sucks it keeps peaking and and limiting

  • true man this mix is bullshit. leave how it is fuckers

  • BASS!

  • very very good

  • Why they don't remaster and remix this masterpiece??? Anyone knows the reason for it doesn't happen?

  • Well the Steve Hoffman remasters of Puppets and Lightning sound great. I always though that they should get him to remaster both Justice and Death Magnetic. Justice for a bad mix and Magnetic for compression up the ass.

Anyway whenever there's something unexplained about Metallica I think it's usually valid to blame it on Lar's for being a douche-bag.

    I mean he's a good drummer but wow, what a douche-bag

  • He's a mediocore drummer. Luckily his sweating somehow keeps up with other band members : P

  • @notylek

how can you say this shit on this video?

his drumming here is insane or listen to dyers eve

i bet you couldn't even last 10 seconds playing it

  • lol Kirk said in an interview they dont plan on remastering death magnetic cuz it keeps the fans wanting more when they want something out of a band

  • That's not really fair to say. "Anyway whenever there's something unexplained about Metallica I think it's usually valid to blame it on Lar's for being a douche-bag." To me, that makes no sense to say.

But I'm not trying to start a big fight with you or anything, though. Awesome remaster dude. Even people like the original better, it's not

like this is replacing it. I listen to both.

  • @Me04120 true that, lars is a great drummer, but a big douche

  • @lambofgod122 lars is sloppy drumer i wana punch him in the face for being so cocky . i know 12 year old kid that plays 10x better than lars !!!

  • @chicobanom he is cocky, but come on man, he was a great drummer, hes just getting old now. very very cocky though

  • @chicobanom You are out of your mind.

  • @Me04120 well lars...bad drummer, fuckin! douchebag

  • @Me04120 He'd actually a very bland drummer imo, but a douche-bag nonetheless.

  • @Me04120 Steve Hoffman? can you send a link to the remastered versions of Puppetz and Lightning then?

  • @Me04120 How is Lars a douche-bag? You're out of your mind. You're probably one of those retards who still have some childish grudge against him because he was the one that actually thought it wasn't cool for people to steal Metallica's music. Gosh, you cant blame someone for being a normal person. You'd do the same in his position. People like you are sad.

  • @Me04120 why is he a douche bag?

  • @Me04120 i agree! but the main issue with Death Magnetic was that the guitars and drums clip severely

  • FUCKING AWESOME!

  • Wow, apparently there was a bass guitar on this record, I can hear it now!

  • All this does is make my subwoofer make louder noises.

  • I think it sounds good with and with out bass

    just better with.

  • HELL YEAH!

this is what im talkin about!

this is the way the song SHOULD be!

  • everyone needs to stop remastering metallica shit. it sounds great the way it is. yall keep messing with the true sound of the album

  • more brutal thanks to the bass =] \m/

  • holy shit kick ass

  • u can hear the bass! this is the way that AFJA should be remastered

  • you could hear the bass in AJFA,

it was just more of thud sound.

It was metallica's fault its who ever did the mixing.

  • awesome quality!

love bass+drum in this one just the lyrics go down a bit :D

  • Comment removed

  • wtf?

what do you mean extremely high quality?

you sound like you uploaded something special

the one on my channel is better quality.

  • I don't mean that it was an extremely high quality mix but that I uploaded it completely uncompressed. I still hope that one day this album is remastered the way it deserves to be, so just take it for what its worth.

  • Fuckin awesome! Is there some place for download the whole album custom remastered like this?

  • I like. But, I liked the clickyness of the bass drums, made them audible.

  • the double-bass part at 1:54 sounds like a flanger in the background, do you use one? sounds a bit psycho... but good mix at all!

  • Wait, whoa whoa whoa. Bass. Let's not go nuts...WAIT A MINUTE...BASS?!!?

    5 stars, buddy.

  • The bass is much higher if you don't click on the high quality link. not sure why.

  • maybe because youtube thinks highquality = less noise/bass.

  • and btw - this album came out 1988 not 1990

  • That's weird I knew it came out in 1988 but I don't even remember putting that tag there.

  • Holy shit! BASS! WHAT THE HELL?!?!

  • just dont sound right with the bass!! awsome song tho!!

  • i actually love lars's kick drums on Justice. There were never a great studio band sonic wise. But of all of them I love teh justice and lightning production values.

  • dude the kick drums sound so fucking nice

  • Too bad there's no way to change Lars' Pop Drums.

  • Dude, to properly re-master, you need to re-digitize from the analog master and then tweak it.

  • good thing i have that handy in my closet

  • This is waaaaay better than the original mix. But indeed a tad or two highs less. And a little less bass, but it sounds so fuckin' sweet!

  • How did you do this?? Help appreciated.

  • I processed it through sound forge and soundbooth to try to get a good equal mix. I found later that its still a little off so I made a better one.

  • Alright, thanks man!

  • I got a hold of the leaked death magnetic and after listening to it for a while I've decided that it was too compressed. I hope somebody rips the vinyl collection that is being released and uploads it.

This version of blackened isn't perfect, I redid it again after this when I had a higher quality sound system to listen to it with. I realized that the really low end is too high and even a little clipped. Also some of the high end drums are too loud.

  • It would probably be worth seeing them now with their new album. Way better than St. Anger. They can still play their songs well but Hetfield's voice is probably going to get all shifty after a full concert. Listen to the way he sang Seek & Destroy on their Binge and Purge album. He can't do that voice anymore at all.

  • I play Joint Operations PC game, and my name is Blackened, awesome song. I love laying the clays down. I saw Metallica in the old Boston Garden!!!!

  • Great job. What did you use to do this?
