  • Disgraceful, came off his forearm, not out.

  • @Firefly0100 LOL it came full off his glove you tool. But as his hand wasn't on the bat it shouldn't have been out.

  • @nunnylad1 No, it didn't, The umpires were appalling all during that series. If the right decision was made here Australia would have won the series.

  • I was thereeee :D the atmosphere was fooking amazing :D

  • best thing to ever happen to test cricket

  • @samwestbrook1

Hey it was a great game, but not for us australians......... I think australia needed something 250 runs with 3 wickets and i slowly watched it get to one and then kasper do this. "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!"

  • Jones! BOOWWWDAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAN!!!! :)

  • I was in a pub in Sydney at the time. All I can say was science hit the pub except for me... Priceless!!

  • @truthoutmedia is there a link for that doco, wouls love to watch in myself haha

  • @meyv04 it*

  • Somehow the ecb has to get that fool Stephen Fry removed from any programme involved with cricket.

  • @stellaviolens This. He's on far too many and as this video shows he's far from an authority on cricket.

  • Thank you buddy, i really appreciate that. sorry to bother ya...

  • That was a great day!

  • kasprovicz wasnt out, his glove was off the bat, which is counted as the ball hitting his body, england played well, but australia, especially lee, deserved that match.

  • @1994anmol Your right, close up slo-mo replays analyzed for ages have shown that. But for the umpire it looks out, and even a referal would probably have ended up with it being out. While the aussies played very well leting England score 400 in one day was what let them down

  • @1994anmol Actually the ball hit his glove while holding the bat, he then took his hand of the bat. By the way both teams deserved to win, it is called the greatest team of all time. It wouldn't be called that if it was one sided.

  • Check out the book 'The Ashes, 1945-2005, A Complete Record' by Tony Wagtar

  • To me this ashes winning side is probably the best side we have ever had. Harmison at his peak aswell as Flintoff superb batsman with Trescothick and Vaughan aswell as Simon Jones and Hoggard. KP aswell. Superb team !!.

  • @ParisAvenue2005

I think you need to stop over analyzing mate

  • @truthoutmedia You still didn't explain why the video is titled "Harmison BOWLS Kasprowicz". Mate.

  • @ParisAvenue2005

To piss people like you off mate

  • LOL.....I love how the video is edited to make it look like he hit it

  • Stephen, it's Geriant Jones, not Gareth!

  • i do like stephen fry but in no was was that a bad ball. It was a quality bouncer!

  • @doza2112

Yeah I racked my brains over that one - why he said that I have no idea

  • @truthoutmedia I think he said that was a bad ball because it's not generally a wicket-taking ball when say the other team needs only 3 runs to win...

  • @truthoutmedia

Because he has no idea! He also said "Gareth Jones"...

  • @doza2112

He probably either doesn't have an intimate knowledge of cricket or it was an off the cuff remark attempting humour but not based entirely on events. He also got Geraint Jones' name wrong.

  • @doza2112 You're right, it was a fantastic ball. Fast, well aimed bouncer at a tail-ender, regardless of the fact he had played himself in they still don't like those balls. Excellent delivery. Stephen Fry also calls the keeper Gareth Jones...he clearly doesn't know what he's talking about!!

  • Average England?? We beat Australia over 5 tests... not so average :)

  • Why is it that when we get beaten by the Ausies we say "yeah. they were better" yet when they are beaten by us they whinge and make excuses. Bad loosers. Worse winners.

Its gonna be ugly for the Ausies being an average test team for a while.

Having said all that. Shane warne is a hero of mine. Best bowler ever!

  • Great moment...i was 18 back then and i was jumping around my living room in total joy :-D

  • Let's be honest, England managed to win with a very average cricket side against an out of form Australian team in this series. Plus they had all the luck. But full credit to England, they played well.

  • @nurone11

I wouldnt say England were average, that is a real stretch and almost a distortion of truth.

Strauss, Tesco and Vaughan as the top 3 - not many sides would decline those as the opening batsmen in the side. Then we had Freddie, Simon Jones, Harmy (who at this time was on fire for England) and Hoggard. The only real weak links were Geraint Jones and maybe, Ian Bell. Giles wasn't brilliant either.

But no way were England average. Doesn't say much for the Aussies if they were.

  • @truthoutmedia I can tell you which side would deny those top three...Australia. Langer, Hayden, Ponting- no better

  • @nurone11

Thats not my point. Your point was that the English had a very average side. Ok, the Aussie top 3 at that time may have been the best in the world. But you are talking about an entire side. The Aussie bowlers could not get it to reverse swing like the English bowlers in this series at all.

  • @truthoutmedia

As far as reverse swinging the ball went, maybe you should listen to Trscothick who admitted England cheated with shining the ball with mints.

  • @nurone11

Jelly babies actually. And coming from an Aussie, those words are quite laughable.

    Enjoy the game yesterday?

  • When have the Aussies actually cheated on the field?? Im actually English but i cant recall Australia doing any ball tampering etc. The may be arrogant and bullish but they have always played fair

  • @MrArtvandelay99

I guess some would point to the Hughes incident yesterday, although I share your sentiments

  • @truthoutmedia

Yeah - if England were average, what have the Aussies been recently. Total crap?

  • @nurone11 Australia wern't necessarily off form, they did after all dick on England in the first test. The likes of Glenn McGrath were hardly off form then were they...

  • @nurone11 100% true michael vaughans captaincy was a large part of it unlike strauss strausses side was the best england had for many years. best series ever

  • @nurone11

The same very average side who were ranked no.2 in the world? You don't win a 5 test series on luck you idiot, luck always evens out over a whole series. if enlgand had "all the luck" then it wouldn't have rained at old trafford and it would have been 3-1.

  • lets be honest we now know it wasn't "out of form" this Aussie team was and still is in decline

  • Jooooooooooooooooonesss bowwwled him!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

LOVE IT ILL NEVER FORGET THOSE WORDS AND THE WAY THEY WERE DELIEVERD FANTASTIC!

  • notice fry calls him gareth jones???

  • cook for life fucking your wife

  • Steve Harmison Bowls Mike Kasporwviszehshjs (how's it spelt) Edgebaston 2005. Hmm more like 'Geriant Jones catches Mike Kasporvwizshesczd

  • i remember this game. poor brett lee at the other end.

  • BOOOOOOO the poms have that much luck its not funny.

All i can say is at least we won the 2007 series fair and square 5-0, no crappy draws which should have been English losses, games which didnt rely on umpires and no last ball miracles.. just a PURE thrashing!

  • @alerom23471

    Bitter Aussie!

  • @alerom23471 boooooo the poms... get your own qeen! id rather talk about real sports like football, your good at sports like cricket and rugby where like 10 countries play....congrats, seriously congrats. Pathetic country

  • Comment removed

  • @bradjones34

I'd be perfectly happy to become a republic but there were so many poms in our country that voted against it in 1999. Btw, for our population we're probably the best sporting country in the world. As for soccer/football, I know Australia didn't do too well in the world cup but I also remember Germany winning 4-1 in the last 16.

  • @alerom23471 lets see how this series ends then!!

  • Hmm... Well I am an Aussie and I do think it was out too, but it's interesting that they didn't show the impact clearly in this video. The first time the cut away at the exact moment, then on the replay near the end, they only show the catch... Maybe the documentary makers themselves weren't convinced?

  • If he maybe didn't bail out of the shot halfway through swinging the bat he might have survived.

  • He was caught not bowled..

  • thats funny cuz he wasnt bowled

  • fry? bad ball? was a quality ball

go to 30 secs in. great picture of contrasting emotions. uneblievable moment

  • WTF is Fry on about saying that it was a bad ball from Harmison? It was practically unplayable!

  • @barters97 I've heard him in an interview on TMS slagging off Harmison, maybe he just doesn't like him.

  • @wha65 Likewise. They thoroughly deserved that win. I think the world did; such a great game.

  • still gives me goosebumps

  • JONES! ... BOWDEN! ... I remember that sunday morning like it was yesterday ....

  • Awesome game, but i cant imagine how Michael Kasprowitcz would have felt ...

  • why did stephen fry call him gareth jones?

  • About the only decent bit of wicket keeping Geraint Jones ever did...

  • it wz not out actually...it hit his right glove but the glove was detached frm the bat whn the ball hit it...so technically not out but u cant belame d umpire

  • I remember this like it was yesterday. I ran outside to see my grandma dancing on the front garden because of this - amazing.

  • @wha65 I think it saved the Ashes as a spectacle. I can understand the enjoyment of walking over the opposition time after time (e.g. The Ryder Cup) but there comes a point where it is good to see an even contest - it made the 5-0 a more satifsying Series for Aussies!!!!

  • did that dude call geraint jones Gas Jones???

  • why wasn't it correctly out? the ball hit the glove of the hand holding the bat

  • 0:52 Who is GARETH Jones??

  • i love michael vaughn at 0:22 haha

  • Can you tell me the name of this documentary?

  • @nets4lifeam It was on Channel 4 UK 'The Ashes how it was won' or along those lines

  • @truthoutmedia

I believe it was called "ashes fever"

  • @truthoutmedia I think cricket in recent times was at its best around 2005. Personally the only aspect of this series I didn't like was the Channel 4 coverage... Mark Nicholas is a terrible commentator, more thespian than anything else, Boycott is OK and Benaud I'm afraid to say is past it. His comments on this incident (Harmison! Jones! Bowden!) sounded like an old woman being tortured...I prefer the group of Atherton, Gower, Holding and Lloyd personally

  • @1137moiz do not dis The Richie!

  • it was a gr8 finish...but had it been referred to 3rd umpire it wud be NOT OUT..replies clearly showed it hitting the glove but it was not touching the bat...but i dont think even kasprowich knew this n even he thought he wz out

  • @godfaathr dude it was out just except it man

  • u dumbhead englishmen...firstly u won the 2005 ashes by luck...i was just stating the facts...if it went to thrid umpire it wub b not out...see the replies..it hits kasprowichs glove but the glove at that time is not touching the bat...u need to see it from side angle so browse fr videos

  • No, it would have been out...glove is still out mate.

  • hey u fuckin dumbhead if you dont know bout anythin then its ur duty to shut up...the glove has to be connected to bat when the ball touches it..does n check it u english bastard

  • Actually, for your kind information, I am Australian, and unlike you, not a bad sport. If you weren't actually blind you would see that the glove is indeed touching the bat. At the time I didn't like it either, but that was five years ago mate. Stop being a little sook, you're just giving the rest of us Aussies a bad name.

  • @SumFallGrace well fuckhead i was just tellin the facts but u dont seem to like it...i once saw a tv program which showed the left glove was away from bat but said it was impossible for umpire to figure it out.....so dig it...n if u dont know bout sumthin thn its ur duty to shut up

  • No, you are not 'telling the facts'. You are simply telling everyone what YOU think, which is precisely what everyone here doesn't want to hear. You are clearly not very intelligent, I can tell from your very poor English, and your use of the ridiculously ludicrous phrase 'n if u dont know bout sumthin thn its ur duty to shut up'. My duty to shut up is it? I actually know this sport quite well mate, and we all have the right to comment. Basically, it's your 'duty' to stop being a dick.

  • @SumFallGrace hey man ur face can be dipped in dough to make gorilla biscuits...lol..first of ol i m using wat u cal short cut english n this is d way u write english on web..thus is nt a bloody english grammer exam goin over here...but seems u r frm the 1970,s generation n stil havent got fimiliar with it..to cut it short, mate i have seen an episode whr they show frm d side angle the the glove wz just away frm d bat so unless u see a slow motion video frm side angle u cant prove me rong

  • Look mate, your 'argument' doesn't hold any groud. Like, at all. You're just saying that you once 'saw an episode' and therefore I cannot 'prove you wrong'. Thats just stupid, no other way to put it. Watch the video, consider the umpires view. Looks pretty out. So you can bitch and complain all you want but in the end you're just some loser who can't accept reality.

  • hey dipshit d way u write i feel u must b gay.its very hard 2 figure out that it wz not out.i mean even the batsman mite hv thought he wz out..but d ball actually hits kasprovichs right glove n if u try to pause the video u mite get a hint that the right glove is disconnected frm d bat..so maybe giving it out was a fair decision but all i wz tryin to say is that technically hez not out..but ur brain has got so damaged by lickin english asses all these years that u cant even get it into ur head

  • I said before that you don't seem very intelligent, but now, thanks to your last comment, I know for sure. I'm not the one thats been reduced to gay jokes. Like I said before, you are actually blind. Kasprowicz's left hand is in fact connected, precisely because his right hand is off the bat at the time of impact. He can't be holding the bat with no hands. His right hand stays on the bat the whole time. Seriously, watch it, then you might learn not to be such an idiot.

  • wat can i say u just wont accept facts so i was forced to get u some proof..search ashes 2005 wikipedia in google n thn read the 2nd test discription..i am copy pasting d relevant lines from thr...."England appealed, and Kasprowicz was given out caught by Bowden. However subsequent replays suggested that the ball contacted Kasprowicz's glove while not in contact with the bat handle, rendering Bowden's decision incorrect"......i hope now if u r not stubborn but rational u will just except reality

  • Mate, that still doesn't prove anything. As you would know if you had any intelligence at all, Wikipedia is just about the most unreliable source on the internet. Some dickhead like you could have just got on to that article and changed the information to their liking. I'm still not buying it, and I still think it was out.

  • u fuckin stinking pile of cowdung..wikipedia quotes it from an english newspaper n thats relaible..i cud nt track d video in youtube but i hv watched it on youtube whr it clears everthin n kasprovich himself says that although he was technicaly notout He wud hv been very disaapointed if it wz given notout had he been on the bowling side..i wil fwd d video once i find it but a fuckin moron like u wont change his mind even if proved wrong..i hope ur ears turn into assholes n shit on ur shoulders

  • it shouldnt of been give , his hand wasnt on the bat - its quite clear - btw i' english before you ask.

  • One of the worst pieces of commentary you will ever hear from one of the greatest commentators of all time. He was just naming names there.

  • this was fucking bullshit it wasnt out

  • yeah well there you go

  • It was a difficult call to make at the time.

However, I do believe the correct decision would have been 'not out' because his hand was off the bat when the ball hit.

England has a losing culture, so it is no wonder they got excited.

  • i duno why people dislike this because its true...but fuck it, it was given out so it was out. End of lol

  • @CR7TILLDEATH ye it was numpty it was off the bottom edge.

  • @CR7TILLDEATH mate, if you were umpiring there and then you would have given that out. Would you have seen his hand off the bat? ... NO

  • @CR7TILLDEATH HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!! BUT it was out ....

  • @northie123 I'm an English fan and treasure this memory like all true england supporters... but in he had one hand off the bat which meant when he gloved it, it shouldn't have been given. That said, best moment in cricket history

  • @CR7TILLDEATH Yes it was. Replays showed that his glove was in contact with the bat when it hit. He played a false shot and he paid the penalty.

  • robbery, hard call tho

  • anyone else find it funny that england so rarely wins the ashes that they end up making a fuckin documentary about it? thats just sad lol, mabye the win last year will give them some confidence.

  • @toby099 , actually it was a documentary on the greatest ashes series of all time, not just on England winning it. Fortunately for Australia, they were blessed from 1987 onwards with some of the greatest players ever known; I suppose just like the Windies. But all teams have their day. Please allow your memory to stretch back a little further than 1990 in future comments.

  • @truthoutmedia "Greatest Ashes series of all time" and you have the hide to chastise someone for not stretching their memory before 1990! I'm Australian and the 1981 series shat all over the 2005 series - you will note England won both series. Personally, I preferred the 1989 series as the Australian team was incorrectly labelled as "the worst team to leave Australia" by Tony Greig and went on to win 4-0 (would have won 6-0 except for weather). And CR7TILLDEATH was right - it wasn't out.

  • @ItchyMrBoy

Ok, the 'greatest Ashes series in living memory if you have the life span of an ant!'

    ;)

  • @ItchyMrBoy It was out. They checked into that ages ago and it was confirmed. Originally, people were of the persuasion that it wasn't.

  • Its was only documented because it was such a good test match on both parts. Yeah great england won it. but both countries played great cricket with a desire to win. unfortunatly Australia didn't. and England did :)

  • Jones.. Bowwden! Kasprowicz, the man to go and Haaarmison has done it..

    GREAT MOMENT

  • great test match - good cricket from both sides!

great last gasp wicket from england!

  • well said

  • Does anyone know what documentary this was part of?

  • this was taken from a Channel 4 documentary shown days after England won in September 2005.

  • haha stupid polish sucka :D

  • Lol at Stephen Fry calling him Gareth Jones.

  • The HARMY army. You heard it right here! ROAR FOR ENGLAND!

  • It was out, good decision from umpire

  • epic.........simply epic

  • Not out??? C'mon people -- Law 32 -- ball hits hand touching bat and then caught he is out --- there is nothing about both ahnds being on the bat.

  • mate regardless of the laws, england won that match fair and square, there was at least 2 LBW decisions not given to england that were clearly out and so it should have been won even quicker... these things balance themselves out and so the better side won (the side that wanted it more)... a lot of australians still seem to require counselling in order to accept this fact

  • And the Hand the ball hit wasn't touching the bat when it hit it so he wasn't out. Channel 4 showed it after the game. It was impossible to call for Bowden but it turned out to be the best one for us :D

  • Kasprowicz even said that if he was on the fielding side and that wasn't given out, he'd be devastated.

  • jones! bowden! epic commentating

  • Fry pretending to be a cricket fan cos it fits in with his Old School Boy image hes been trying to cultivate his whole career...yawn...that was a ripper of a delivery!

  • No, I think he is genuinely thrilled with cricket.

  • bad ball? this guys retarded..

  • less bad language young man, that just isn't cricket. I'm sorry, but a ban is called for.

  • It should have been given not out as vicavox has said both hands must be on the bat for the ball to caught off the glove such as Ricky Ponting at Old Trafford 2nd innings but from where bowden was it was hard to tell if he had both hands on.

  • Sorry, I don't know who told you that, but that's wrong. FInd any interview with Kasprowicz or Bowden after this event and they'll both tell you it was not out, but that simply it was such a tough decision to give not out. Also I suggest checking the laws of the game for the foremost authority.

  • Also I hate all these "celebs" that get a reputation for "loving cricket" who most instantly be included in these recounting packages, who upon closer inspection have a very limited knowledge of the game. Stephen Fry is a prime example a) Gareth Jones? b) a very bad ball? I thought it was a pretty good bouncer to tail ender...if you want to see bad bowling at tail enders look at his last over against the Aussies in the climax of the subsequent test match.

  • Just to all those still pointlessly debating this dismissal It shouldn't have been given out, to be out caught off the glove both hands must be touching the bat at the time of impact, if only ONE is holding onto the bat when hit, as in this instance it's not out. However, even Kasprowicz claimed after the test that it was a nigh on impossible delivery to give "not-out" to. Just appreciate what a great test match this was.

  • we have lennon and mccartney, you have rolph harris mate, get over it!

  • We also have Don Bradman. Glad we cleared that one up you muppet

  • Just looked at your profile, shitforbrains, noticed you are just 19 years of age, so your obnoxiousness can almost be forgiven. Come back when you have grown up a little. For now, you're banned.

  • thats a very english sounding name doesnt sound very aboriginal to me

  • It the ball hits ur glove it is still out. It doesn't mattter. Tht was a good decision.

  • it shouldn't have been given out. his hand was off the bat when the ball hit his gloves and went to the keeper. big umpiring mistake! it should have been Australia's victory.

  • wahhh wahhh wahhhh!

  • but the fact is that it WAS given out and its pointless debating it now. Its swings and roundabouts anyway, plenty of decisions DONT go your way

  • it hit the hand which was on the bat u mug

  • he even said 'gareth jones' !

  • Best finish to a test match EVER. End of.

  • and today came pretty close!!!

  • fair play mate, i'm not saying this because i'm english but this was the best test match i've ever seen.

Great play and great finish but above all great sportsmanship, when flintoff crouches down and commiserates with Brett Lee after this summed up the whole series for me

  • JONES.....BOWDEN!!!!!!

  • well what can i say apart from

    YYYYYYYYYYYYEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS

  • how can he say it was a bad ball. good bouncer for me

  • Argument not quite over. Listen to the sound, and watch the DVD replay. They indicate it clipped the bat handle as well as the glove.

  • You can't tell from this video, but look on the DVD and you'll see that the ball hit the bat handle as well as his glove. Out.

  • not out. poor kasper

  • Clearly out!

  • OUT!!!

  • lol look at how skinny billys arms are

  • ...I think Ashley Giles helped England to the total that day...?

  • I do have footage of that, I should post it.

  • who the f is the d*ckhead in the grey suit?

  • He's a very intelligent guy - he's Stephen Fry

  • Thanks for that. Still doesn't change my 1st impression :)

  • I know he comes across as a tall drink of water but the man is an absolute genius. Pretty well known in the UK.

  • you say he's intelligent when he said that was a bad ball. That was an amazing piece of bowling!

  • Generally, he's very well educated. I guess theres a difference.

  • I mightn't mind him so much if he were genuinely like that. But the fellow is fake, unctuous, and maddeningly populistic.

As a neutral fan I prefer Australia's team, but this was a fantastic series. As for fans, I think both English and Aussie fans are extremely over-the-top. This series was brilliant, but I bnet you it wouldn't have been so obssessed over and glorified had Australia won.

  • obviosly if australia won it it wouldn't have been glorified to much but it was because England were the underdogs and the test series its self was so exciting
